EDD PFL payment schedule question - when should my next benefit arrive after 11/14?

Got my first California PFL payment for baby bonding on 11/14 (finally!), but I'm confused about when to expect the next one. I thought they'd come every 2 weeks but I'm approaching 3 weeks now with nothing. Do they follow a specific schedule or calendar? I certified on time through UI Online but nothing's showing up in my account yet. Getting a bit nervous since I've got bills due next week. This is my first time on PFL so I'm not sure what's normal vs when I should start worrying.

they're supposed to pay every 2 weeks if u certified. did u check ur claim history online to see if it shows processed?

Thanks for responding! I just checked and it says 'pending' even though I certified right away. Should I be concerned?

It's normal to be worried, but there could be a few things going on. EDD payment schedules can get weird around holidays (Thanksgiving just passed). Also, did you start with SDI for pregnancy disability before transitioning to PFL baby bonding? Sometimes there's a delay during that transition period while they process the new claim type. If you certified and it's showing 'pending' for more than 10 days, you might want to contact EDD directly. The online messaging system rarely gets responses though.

Thanks for the detailed info! No, I went straight to PFL since I'm the dad doing baby bonding. No pregnancy disability first. I'll give it a couple more days and then try calling.

If you certified on 11/14 when you got your first payment, your next certification would be due on 11/28, and payment would process 1-2 days after that assuming no holds. My guess is you're waiting for the certification period to end. The schedule is every 2 weeks, but only AFTER you certify correctly for that period. Check your UI Online account - does it show you as needing to certify for benefits? Or does it show certification received but payment pending?

Hmm, I certified right after receiving my first payment, so it would've been closer to 11/15 or 11/16. UI Online shows 'certification received' with payment status as 'pending.' It's been like that for over a week now.

The problem might be that you certified too early. With PFL, you're supposed to wait until the end of your two-week period before certifying. If you certified immediately after getting your first payment, the system may have flagged it for review since the certification period wasn't over yet. I went through something similar with my baby bonding PFL last year. Once your claim gets flagged for manual review, it can take 2-3 weeks to process instead of the normal 2-3 days. Unfortunately, the only way to resolve this is to reach an EDD representative by phone.

Oh no, that makes sense. I didn't realize I had to wait until the end of the period. I guess I'll need to call them to sort this out.

Try Claimyr if you need to reach EDD quickly. I spent 4 days trying to get through about my delayed baby bonding payment and couldn't reach anyone. Used Claimyr and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed my pending payment issue on the spot. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 and their website is claimyr.com. Totally worth it when you're waiting on money for bills.

Thanks for the tip! I've never heard of Claimyr before. Did they actually resolve your issue? I'm getting desperate since rent is due next week.

Yes! The EDD agent was able to push my payment through once I explained the situation. My payment was in my account the next day. My issue was similar - I had certified incorrectly and it put my claim into review status.

For your reference, EDD PFL payments follow this pattern: 1. You certify for a 2-week period AFTER the period ends 2. Normal processing takes 1-3 business days 3. Payment is issued to your BofA card or direct deposit Holidays can delay things by a few days. Also, if this is technically your second payment but first full payment period (sometimes the first payment is partial depending on when you started), that might explain some confusion with the dates. If it's been more than 10 business days since proper certification, you definitely need to call. Start calling exactly at 8:00am for the best chance of getting through.

Thanks so much for breaking it down like this! This makes it much clearer. You're right - my first payment was partial (just for 1 week), so that might be contributing to the confusion. I'll try calling at 8am tomorrow.

Any update? Were you able to reach EDD or use that Claimyr service? Curious if you got your payment issue resolved.

Great news! I ended up using Claimyr this morning and got through to EDD in about 15 minutes. The rep confirmed I certified too early, but she was able to override the hold and release my payment. Should be in my account by tomorrow! Thanks everyone for your help.

Glad to hear you got it resolved! I'm dealing with something similar right now - been waiting 2.5 weeks for my second PFL payment and it's stuck on "pending" too. Did the EDD rep mention anything about preventing this issue in the future? Like exactly when we're supposed to certify during the 2-week period? I want to make sure I don't mess up my next certification.

Hey! The EDD rep told me to wait until the very last day of my 2-week certification period before submitting. So if your period runs Sunday to Saturday, certify on that Saturday evening or Sunday morning at the earliest. She said certifying early triggers an automatic review flag in their system. Also mentioned that if you're ever unsure about timing, you can check the "certification periods" section in UI Online - it shows you the exact dates for each period. Hope this helps and you get your payment sorted soon!
