EDD PFL claim filed 10 days ago, no response - What to do next?
I filed a claim for unemployment over 10 days ago because I had to take care of my sick relative. I submitted all the paperwork they asked for, including a form from the doctor, on the same day I filed the claim. But I haven't heard anything back and I'm getting worried. No updates, no info, nothing. I'm not sure what to do next or if I need to provide more information. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get an update or speed up the process?

To the OP, I'm sorry you're going through this stressful process. Hereβs a more structured approach you might consider: First, ensure all your documents are uploaded correctly by logging into your EDD account. If everything seems in order and you're still not receiving updates, calling the EDD is necessary despite the challenge it poses. Using tools like Claimyr can be helpful, though consider it a last resort due to the cost involved. For a more cost-effective approach, try reaching out to your local assembly member for assistance β they have been known to expedite processes. Don't forget to regularly certify for your benefits every two weeks, which is crucial in preventing any delays. And lastly, while waiting, document every interaction you have with EDD for future reference. Remember, you're not alone; many are facing similar issues, and persistence is key.

Great breakdown of steps. Itβs so easy to feel overwhelmed but taking it one step at a time really helps.

Hot take: what if we all just showed up at the EDD office with lawn chairs and snacks? They can't ignore us if we're camped out front, right? ποΈ

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery!

I know it sounds weird, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through. Worth every penny imho.

Iβve read mixed reviews about Claimyr. While some people find it helps them get through to an agent, others feel the cost is too high for a service that might not always be necessary. It could be a last resort option.

I didn't even know that was an option. How do I find out who my assembly member is?

Just google "[your city] assembly member". They usually have a contact form on their website. Tell them your situation and they might be able to help!

This is a great suggestion! Assembly members have been known to expedite claims or at least provide some clarity.

Hey, just a heads up - make sure you're certifying for benefits every two weeks even if you haven't heard back about your claim yet. I made that mistake and it caused a huge delay.

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you gotta be proactive and chase them down. It sucks, but that's how the system works.

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and be ready to hit redial a million times. It's a pain, but it works eventually.

Another tip: try using multiple phones or enlist a friend to help you call. Sometimes you can get lucky if there are more people trying.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last month. Here's what worked for me: 1. Keep calling every day. I know it sucks, but persistence pays off. 2. Have all your paperwork ready when you do get through. 3. Ask for a specific timeline and next steps. 4. Get the name of who you talk to and a reference number for the call. 5. Follow up with an email summarizing the call (if you can find an email address). Don't give up! The system is broken, but you'll get there eventually. Good luck!
