Sent EDD extension form - how long for approval? Need advice!
Hey everyone, I just sent in my extension form for unemployment benefits. Has anyone else done this recently? How long did it take to get approved? I'm getting a bit anxious waiting for a response and could use some advice or experiences from others who've been through this process.

I sent mine in about 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. The waiting game is killing me! š« Anyone know if there's a way to check the status online?

I heard you can check your status on the EDD website, but when I tried, it just showed my old claim info. Not very helpful tbh

Ugh, thanks for the info. Guess we're all just stuck waiting then. This sucks š

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through to an agent in about 45 minutes. Thanks for the tip! š

Pro tip: make sure you've filled out every single field on the extension form, even if it doesn't seem relevant. I had to resubmit mine because I left one tiny box empty š¤¦āāļø

Has anyone else noticed that the processing times seem to vary depending on which office handles your claim? My friend in NorCal got approved way faster than me down in SoCal.

Now that you mention it, yeah! Wonder if its because of different workloads or staffing issues?

Interesting. Maybe we should start a spreadsheet to track processing times by region. Could be helpful data for everyone waiting!

Okay, I've been through this process a couple times now, so here's what I've learned: ā¢ Typical processing time is 2-3 weeks, but can take up to 6 weeks in some cases ā¢ Make sure ALL fields are filled out on your form, even if they don't seem relevant ā¢ Double-check that your contact info is up to date ā¢ If you haven't heard back after 4 weeks, try calling (use the trick mentioned above if you can't get through) ā¢ Keep an eye on your mail AND email - sometimes they send important info to one but not the other ā¢ If you're really in a bind, reach out to your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes help expedite things Hope this helps someone! Hang in there, everyone. I know it's tough, but you'll get through this. šŖ

This should be pinned at the top of the subreddit tbh. Super helpful!

Anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to be as confusing and frustrating as possible? It's like they WANT us to give up š

Preach! š Sometimes I wonder if they make it this way on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits

Cmon guys, let's not go full conspiracy theory here. The system's just old and underfunded. Still sucks tho

Quick question - does anyone know if gig work affects your eligibility for an extension? I've been doing some food delivery on the side to make ends meet while I wait.

Pretty sure you need to report any income, even from gig work. It might reduce your benefits but shouldn't make you ineligible

Be careful with this! A friend of mine got in trouble for not reporting some freelance work. Better to overshare than undershare
