PFL asking me to return $918 payment - Help!
I applied for Paid Family Leave and received a payment of $918. Now I've gotten a letter telling me to return that payment because it was an 'improper payment'. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do when I call them? I'm so confused and worried about having to pay this back.

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Here's what you should do when you call: • Have the letter ready • Explain your situation clearly • Ask why it was deemed improper • See if there's an appeal process • Find out what steps to take next • Get the agent's name and any reference numbers Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

•This is great advice! I'd add: take notes during the call. It's easy to forget important details when you're stressed.

•Yep, notes are key. I always put my phone on speaker and use a voice recorder app too (with the agent's permission ofc

•Thanks everyone! This is really helpful. I'm nervous about the call but feeling more prepared now.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

•It's legit! You choose the line you want to call, pay, and they start calling right away. When an agent picks up, your phone rings and you're connected. Saved me hours of hold time.

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call 🤔

•I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was spending hours on hold and missing work. This way I could just wait for the call and keep working.

the system is so broken smh. why do they make it so hard for us to get help when we need it?

Have you checked if there were any changes to PFL eligibility recently? Sometimes they change rules and don't communicate well. Might explain the 'improper payment' thing.

•I haven't! That's a good point. I'll look into it before I call. Thanks for the tip!

Oof, been there done that. It took me 3 months to sort out a similar issue. Don't give up! Keep calling and asking for supervisors if you have to. Document EVERYTHING.

•3 months?! That's insane. Did you ever figure out why it happened?

•Yeah, turns out there was a glitch in their system that flagged my payment as improper. Took forever to get someone to actually investigate and fix it. 🙄

pro tip: call right when they open. youll have a better chance of getting thru and the agents are usually in a better mood lol

This happened to my cousin last year. Turns out it was just a clerical error on their end. Don't stress too much, it might be something simple!

•That's reassuring to hear! I hope it's something simple like that in my case too.

•100% agree. It's a mess. We should start a petition or something.

•Petition won't do jack. We need to vote in people who actually care about fixing this stuff.
