DfE demanding repayment of paternity leave benefits - Help!
I'm so confused right now. I took paternity leave last year and got paid 70% of my salary for 8 weeks by the Department of Education. Now they're asking me to give all that money back! I thought I was eligible for this benefit. Am I missing something here? Has anyone else dealt with this kind of overpayment issue?

Ugh, that sucks man. The government always finds a way to mess things up. Have you tried calling them to get more info? Maybe there was some paperwork you missed or something.

ā¢I've been trying to call them for days but can't get through. It's so frustrating!

ā¢Pro tip: call right when they open. That's how I finally got through after weeks of trying.

ā¢Calling is useless, they never pick up. You're better off sending a written appeal.

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a change in policy that affected eligibility retroactively. It's total BS if you ask me. š¤¬

Hey, I work in HR and deal with this stuff. Here's what you need to know: ⢠First, double-check your eligibility. The rules can be tricky. ⢠Look for any notices about policy changes that might have affected your case. ⢠Gather all your documentation - pay stubs, leave approval forms, everything. ⢠File an appeal ASAP. There's usually a deadline for these things. ⢠Consider getting a labor lawyer if it's a significant amount of money. Don't just pay it back without fighting. The system makes mistakes all the time.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

ā¢Sounds sketchy. Is this legit?

ā¢Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

This is why I never trust government benefits. They giveth and they taketh away š

Have you checked if there were any income thresholds for the benefit? Sometimes if you earned over a certain amount, you might not be eligible even if you initially qualified.

ā¢I didn't even think of that! I'll definitely look into it. Thanks for the tip!

This is why we need better paternity leave policies in this country. Other nations have it figured out, why can't we?

ā¢Yeah but who's gonna pay for it? Our taxes are already too high

ā¢Maybe if we stopped spending so much on [redacted political topic], we could afford proper benefits for families š¤·āāļø
