No approval notification for EDD pregnancy disability claim? Still pending after 2 weeks

I submitted my pregnancy disability claim about 2 weeks ago and my status just shows 'pending processing' on the EDD website. Do they actually send notifications when your claim is approved or denied? This is my first time applying and I'm 36 weeks pregnant so I'm getting worried about timing. My doctor already submitted all the medical certification forms. I check the EDD SDI portal like 5 times a day but nothing changes!! How long does processing typically take for pregnancy claims? And will they notify me by mail or just in the portal when there's a decision?

they dont email u they just deposit $ in your account when its ready lol. took like 3 weeks for me

So you just randomly got money without any notification?? That seems weird. Did your online status change at least?

Yes, EDD does notify you when your claim is approved, but they primarily communicate through the online portal and by mail. They don't always send emails or texts unless you've specifically opted in for those notifications. For pregnancy disability claims, the typical processing time is 1-3 weeks if all documentation is complete. Since your doctor has already submitted the medical certification, that's good! You should see an update soon. When approved, you'll see the status change in your SDI Online account AND you'll receive a notice of computation by mail showing your weekly benefit amount. Keep checking your portal daily as that usually updates before the physical mail arrives. If it goes beyond 3 weeks with no update, that's when you might want to contact EDD directly.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! That's reassuring. I'll keep checking the portal and my mailbox. I'm just nervous since I'm cutting it close with my due date.

My pregnancy claim sat as "pending" for 19 days and I was FREAKING OUT!!! Then suddenly it was approved without any email notification. The only way I knew was checking the portal and seeing the status change. Then 2 days later I got a letter in the mail with all the details. BUT my friend who filed her pregnancy claim last month said she got an email right away. I think their system is just really inconsistent with notifications. Keep checking that portal!

This is accurate - EDD does have different notification methods that seem to vary by claim. Some people receive emails while others only get paper notices. It depends on your communication preferences in your account (which aren't always obvious) and sometimes just system quirks. When I processed my disability claim last year, I randomly received a text message about approval but no email, then paper mail arrived a week later.

I had EXACTLY this issue with my prgnancy claim!! The silent pending status was making me crazy. I finally broke down and called EDD after staring at "pending processing" for 22 days. Turns out there was a small issue with my medical certification they never told me about!! So frustrating. once that was fixed they approved it in 2 days.

Omg that's my worry too! How did you actually get through to a person? I've tried calling several times but it's always automated messages and disconnections.

Not the original commenter, but after weeks of trying to call EDD for my disability claim issues, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual agent. They have this callback service that somehow gets you in the queue. I was skeptical but watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd) and decided to try it. Got a callback from EDD in about 45 minutes and discovered my doctor had submitted an incomplete form. Definitely worth it when you're in limbo with a pending claim and no information.

The whole EDD notification system is GARBAGE. When I was on disability last year they would randomly update things without telling me ANYTHING. I missed certifying one period because they never notified me it was time to certify! Then they blamed ME for the delay!! But pregnancy claims are different from regular disability - they're usually faster because it's a standard situation they deal with all the time. You should be fine as long as your doctor filled everything out correctly.

Just to clarify - pregnancy disability claims are processed through the same SDI system as other disability claims. The processing time can be similar, though you're right that they tend to be more straightforward since pregnancy is a well-documented medical condition. One important note: for pregnancy claims specifically, EDD typically approves for 4 weeks before your expected delivery date and 6-8 weeks after (longer for C-sections). So even with processing delays, they'll backdate the claim to cover the appropriate period.

Based on my experience working with clients navigating the EDD system, here's what you should know about pregnancy disability claim notifications: 1. The standard processing time is 7-21 days for most claims 2. Notification methods include: - Status change in your SDI Online account (always) - Paper notice sent via postal mail (always) - Email notification (only if you opted in) - Text message (only if you opted in) 3. For pregnancy claims specifically, EDD is generally more efficient but sometimes doesn't send email/text alerts even if you're opted in. If you're concerned about timing with your delivery date, you can request an expedited review by calling the EDD SDI customer service line. Be prepared to explain that you're at 36 weeks and the timing is critical.

Thank you for the detailed information. I think I did opt in for email notifications when I signed up, but maybe that setting didn't save properly. I'll keep watching my mail and the portal. If it's not updated by the end of this week (which would be 3 weeks total), I'll definitely try to call them.

Update: My claim was just approved this morning! The status in the portal changed to "Claim Established" and shows my weekly benefit amount. No email notification, but I did get a text message. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance during the wait!

Congratulations on getting your claim approved! This is such a helpful thread for others going through the same process. It's reassuring to see that even though the waiting period can be stressful, EDD does come through. Your experience really shows how important it is to keep checking that portal regularly since the notification methods can be inconsistent. Best wishes for a smooth delivery and recovery period!
