EDD unemployment claim stuck in waiting period for over a month - no payments received
Has anyone else been stuck in a waiting period for their unemployment claim? I filed over a month ago and haven't received any payments. The system shows a waiting period starting June 8th, but I haven't gotten anything for May or June. I'm getting really worried about bills piling up. Anyone know what's going on or how to speed this up?

Hey OP, hang in there. I know it's tough, but it will get sorted eventually. In the meantime, check out r/assistance or r/borrow if you need help with immediate expenses. There are good people out there willing to help.

Bruh, I feel you. Been waiting since April. EDD is a joke. Maybe we should all show up at their office and have a sit-in protest 😂

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to your phone. Costs $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken.

•Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

•I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. It actually worked for me. Got through in about an hour. The agent was able to fix my claim status.

I understand how daunting this waiting period can be for unemployment claims. It seems like many people are caught in similar situations. For those who are considering Claimyr, it's a tool that's designed to help connect you with a live EDD agent, which can be invaluable when you're stuck in the phone queue. Many users have found it effective, although it does come with a cost. On the flip side, it's important to weigh this against your financial situation, as $20 can be a lot in times of unemployment. As others have suggested, reaching out to your state representative or trying alternative methods like social media can also be effective. Persistence is key in dealing with bureaucratic systems, and while it may feel like a never-ending battle, utilizing a mix of traditional and new tools may eventually help resolve the issue. Best of luck!

This might sound weird, but try faxing them. I know, it's 2024, who uses fax? But I sent a fax explaining my situation and got a call back within 48 hours. Worth a shot!

•Faxing? Seriously? Where would I even find a fax machine these days?

•There are online fax services. I used FaxZero to send mine. It's free for a certain number of pages.

guys, i think we're all missing the bigger picture here. why is our unemployment system so broken? other countries manage to get ppl their benefits quickly and efficiently. we need to demand better from our govt!

•Preach! 🙌 The whole system needs an overhaul. It's not just EDD, it's everywhere.

•Yeah but good luck getting anyone to care. Politicians only pay attention when it affects them.

•We should start a petition or something. Get enough signatures and maybe we can force some change.

Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes they respond faster there. @CA_EDD is their handle.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with EDD for months: 1. The "waiting period" is usually just the first week of your claim. It shouldn't last a month. 2. If you're stuck in pending, it could be because: - Identity verification issues - Employer hasn't responded to EDD's request for info - You answered a question on your certification that flagged your account 3. Keep certifying every two weeks, even if you're not getting paid. This will help when they finally fix your claim. 4. Document everything. Keep a log of when you call, who you talk to, what they say. 5. If all else fails, contact your state representative. They can sometimes push things through. Hope this helps. Hang in there, OP. The system sucks, but don't give up.

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! I'll definitely try contacting my rep if I can't get through on the phone.

Ugh, the waiting game is the worst. Have you tried calling them? I know it's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

•I've been trying to call for weeks! It's always busy or they hang up on me. It's so frustrating 😤

•Calling is a joke. I spent 3 days straight trying to get through. When I finally did, they put me on hold for 2 hours then disconnected me. 🤡

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59. Sometimes you can get through before the rush.

Have you checked if there's an EDD office near you? Sometimes you can get better results in person. Bring all your documents just in case.

Same boat here. Filed in May, still nothing. EDD's website is useless, just shows "pending" for everything. Starting to feel like I'm shouting into the void.

This is why I always tell people to have an emergency fund. You can't rely on the government to help you when you need it.
