EDD keeps dropping my calls after 1+ hour hold. Anyone else? How to actually get through?

I've been trying to get through to check on my eligibility for a new claim, but they keep dropping my call. I've been on hold for over an hour and then suddenly, click, the line goes dead. Is this happening to anyone else? What am I supposed to do now? Just keep calling and hope I get through eventually? This is so frustrating!

I found a way to solve long unemployment phone wait times, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOJjMyrPy9Y

Welcome to the club, buddy. πŸ™„ I've been dealing with this for weeks now. It's like they're playing some sick game of phone tag, except we're the only ones tagging and they're just... gone.

Weeks? You're still a rookie. I've been trying to get through for MONTHS. 😭 At this point, I'm convinced their hold music is my new ringtone.

lol same here. I swear I can hum their entire playlist by heart now. Maybe we should start a band? 🎡

🀣🀣🀣 Sign me up for that band! We can call ourselves 'The Perpetual Hold' or 'Dropped Call Dilemma'

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I'm skeptical. How do we know this isn't just another scam trying to take advantage of desperate people?

I get the skepticism, but I can assure you it's legit. I was desperate and decided to give it a shot. Saved me hours of frustration. The $20 was worth it for me, but I understand it might not be for everyone.

Can you give more details about how it worked for you? How long did it take?

Sure! I paid for the service around 10 AM. The system called for me and was on hold for about 2 hours. Then I got a call back when they reached an agent. Whole process took maybe 2.5 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music the entire time.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I've had better luck getting through first thing in the morning.

This is ridiculous. We pay taxes for this service and they can't even answer the damn phone. 😑 Someone needs to fix this broken system!

Preach! πŸ™Œ It's like they forget we're real people with bills to pay and families to feed.

Maybe we should all show up at their office. See how they like it when we're all on hold in person! 😀

Here's what I've learned after months of dealing with this: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if it's frustrating. 2. Try different times of day. Early morning or late afternoon can sometimes be less busy. 3. Have all your information ready before you call. When you do get through, you don't want to waste time scrambling for docs. 4. Be polite to the agent when you finally reach one. It's not their fault the system is overwhelmed. 5. If you're really stuck, consider contacting your local representative. They sometimes have ways to expedite claims. 6. Join online forums or Facebook groups for your state's unemployment. Other people might have insider tips. 7. Check if your state has an online chat option. Sometimes it's easier to get through that way. Hang in there, OP. I know it's tough, but you'll get through eventually.

This is gold! πŸ’― Thanks for taking the time to write all this out. Saving this for future reference.

Great advice! I'd add: document everything. Keep a log of your calls, who you spoke to, and what they said. It can help if you need to escalate later.

Tried it. Didn't work for me. 😞 Maybe it depends on the state?

Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes their social media team is more responsive. Worth a shot!

I feel your pain, OP. The system is totally overwhelmed right now. Covid really exposed how unprepared they were for a crisis. Hang in there!

True that. You'd think after 2+ years they'd have figured out how to scale up by now. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Pro tip: use a landline if you have one. Cell signals can be iffy and might be part of why calls are dropping.
