EDD disability appeal due to work issue - need urgent help!
I got an email saying I need to appeal my disability benefits, but I'm confused about what it means. The email mentions something about work, but I don't understand. I really need help figuring out how to appeal this so I can keep getting my benefits. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do?

Ugh, I've been there. The disability appeal process can be a real headache. First thing you need to do is carefully read through that email. It sounds like they might be questioning your work status or history. Did you maybe work part-time or do any freelance stuff while on disability?

Thanks for responding. I'm not sure tbh. I might have done some odd jobs here and there, but nothing major. Does that count?

Yeah, unfortunately even small jobs can affect your benefits. You'll need to gather all info about any work you did, no matter how minor. Dates, hours, pay - everything. That'll be crucial for your appeal.

Hey there! I actually found a way to get someone on the phone about this kinda thing. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it actually worked! Saved me hours of hold time.

20 bucks tho? That's steep for something that should be free 😒

I get it, but for me it was worth it. Time is money, ya know? And I was going crazy trying to get through on my own.

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather ALL your medical records. I mean everything - doctor's notes, test results, prescriptions, the works. 2. Write a detailed statement about your condition and how it affects your ability to work. 3. If you did any work, even part-time or gig stuff, get documentation for that too. 4. Look up the exact regulations they're using to deny you. Knowledge is power! 5. Consider getting a disability lawyer. Many work on contingency. 6. Submit your appeal ASAP - there are usually strict deadlines. 7. Keep copies of EVERYTHING you send them. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! It's a lot to take in, but at least now I have a roadmap. Really appreciate it 🙏

have you tried calling the EDD? sometimes talking to a real person can clear things up quick

lol good luck with that. I spent 3 days trying to get someone on the phone. It's like trying to win the lottery 🤡

idk if this helps, but I had a similar issue last year. Turns out I had reported some income wrong on one of my forms. Double-check all your paperwork, sometimes it's just a simple mistake that triggers these things.

Oof, appeals are the worst. Make sure you respond within the deadline they give you, even if you don't have all the info yet. You can always submit more stuff later, but missing that initial deadline can sink your whole case.

Not to be that guy, but have you considered looking for work that accommodates your disability? I know its not always possible, but sometimes theres options out there we dont know about. Just a thought!
