EDD claim stuck for weeks, can't pay bills or provide for kids. Need advice on expediting!

My claim has been pending for weeks since my doctor submitted the medical certification. I can't pay my bills or debt, and I'm struggling to provide for my toddler and infant. I've tried calling multiple times but can't get through. Has anyone had success getting their claim processed faster? What should I say when I finally reach someone?

I found a way to solve pending claim processing delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5aPOiMbQg8

I feel ya, I'm in the same boat. Been waiting for months now. The system is so broken 😡 Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help speed things up.

I haven't tried that yet. How do I find my local rep? Do I just google it?

Yep, just google '[your county] state representative'. Send them an email explaining your situation. They might take a while to respond, but it's worth a shot!

I second this! My rep's office actually got back to me within a week and helped push my claim through. Def worth trying 👍

Here's what worked for me: 1. Call first thing in the morning, right when they open. 2. Have all your info ready - claim number, dates, etc. 3. Be polite but firm. Explain your financial hardship. 4. Ask if there's anything missing from your claim that's causing the delay. 5. If they say it just takes time, ask if there's any way to expedite due to your circumstances. 6. Get the name of who you spoke to and a reference number for the call. Hope this helps! Hang in there 💪

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling first thing tomorrow morning.

This is great advice! I'd add: if you can't get through, keep trying. It took me like 50 calls before I finally got in the queue 😩

guys i found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. check it out: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Got through in like an hour instead of days of trying

$20 tho? That's kinda steep when we're already broke af 😒

I get it, but for me it was worth it to finally talk to someone and get my claim moving. Beats losing out on weeks of benefits 🤷‍♂️

have you tried faxing your documents? sometimes that gets attention faster than waiting for them to process online submissions

ugh this system is such a joke. we pay into it our whole working lives and then when we need help its impossible to get 🤡 good luck OP

preach 🙌 its like they make it hard on purpose to discourage people from claiming

Hey, former EDD employee here. The backlog is insane rn, but here's a pro tip: if you can prove financial hardship (like eviction notice, past due bills), you can request expedited processing. Make sure to mention you have young kids too. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the insider info! I'll definitely mention the hardship and my kids when I call.

Is there a specific form for requesting expedited processing or do we just ask verbally?

0 coins

No specific form, just ask verbally and be ready to provide details/documentation if they request it.

tldr: the system sucks, were all suffering, and theres no easy fix. welcome to the club 😭
