EDD DE2500E letter shows only $184 for disability claim - how to get full benefits?

I just got a letter from EDD about my disability insurance and I'm super confused. The DE2500E letter says I'm only getting $184, but I thought I was supposed to get full benefits from 11/28 to 1/29. I filed late because I didn't know the requirements, but they accepted it. I also messed up and filed for paid family leave instead of disability at first because my old job gave me bad instructions. Anyone know what I should do to get my full benefits? I'm worried I messed everything up.

Ugh, the EDD is such a nightmare to deal with. I've been there, buddy. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call them ASAP. Like, yesterday. 2. Explain the situation clearly - mention the wrong filing and the late acceptance. 3. Ask them to review your case and explain why you're only getting $184. 4. Request a recalculation of your benefits. 5. Get the name and ID of whoever you talk to. 6. Follow up with a written appeal if they don't help. Don't give up! The system is designed to wear you down, but stay persistent. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of all your calls, including dates, times, and what was discussed. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

How long did it take for them to call you back?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than being stuck on hold all day!

The same thing happened to me last year! Turns out they calculated my benefits based on the wrong quarter. Make sure to ask them which quarter they used for the calculation. If it's wrong, you can request a recalculation.

have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds like were back in the 90s lol but sometimes that works better than calling

This is why we need to overhaul the entire system. It's ridiculous that people have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits they're entitled to. Vote for politicians who prioritize fixing these broken systems!

Preach! 🙌 The whole thing is a dumpster fire

Yeah but good luck getting anyone to actually fix it. They all talk a big game during elections and then nothing changes 🙄

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's more info there that doesn't show up in the letters.

pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling one of the foreign language lines and then ask to be transfered to an english speaker. sometimes works!

Ooh, sneaky. I like it 😈

Hey Sophia, I went through something similar last year! The $184 amount sounds like it might be the minimum weekly benefit or they're calculating based on incomplete wage info. A few things to check: 1) Make sure they have all your W-2s from the base period (usually 12-15 months before you filed), 2) Double-check that they switched your claim from PFL to SDI properly - sometimes the systems don't talk to each other well, and 3) Ask specifically about the "benefit year" dates on your claim. When you call, have your social security number and the claim number from the DE2500E letter ready. The wait times are brutal but don't give up - you deserve your full benefits!

This is really helpful advice! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now and didn't know about the base period W-2 thing. Quick question - how long did it take for them to fix your calculation once you got through to someone? I'm worried about running out of time to appeal if needed.
