EDD review required on claim - interview scheduled but conditional payment promised

I'm totally confused about what's happening with my disability claim. Last week I logged into my SDI Online account and saw a notice saying 'Review Required - We identified an issue and may need to determine your eligibility or verify your information.' I panicked and tried calling EDD about 20 times but couldn't get through to anyone. Today I checked my account again and now there's an interview scheduled for the end of February! The weird part is they said a 'conditional payment' will be processed next week. The rep I finally spoke with said this all happened because some letter they mailed me was returned as undeliverable. Has anyone dealt with this before? Will I actually get this conditional payment? I'm already behind on rent and really need this money. This is my first time on disability and I'm totally lost.

ya this is pretty common with EDD. they send stuff to wrong addres then blame u. conditional paymnt just means u get paid but if they decide later u dont qualify they make u pay it back. i had same thing happen

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the conditional payment usually comes on time? Or does it get delayed because of this review process?

This happened to me back in December. The interview is just to verify your information and make sure you qualify for SDI. Make sure you have all your documents ready - they'll want to confirm your identity and possibly your medical information. The conditional payment should come through as scheduled, but be prepared to potentially pay it back if they determine you aren't eligible after the interview. In my case, everything worked out fine after I updated my address and explained the situation.

That's reassuring! What documents should I have ready? My doctor already submitted the medical certification form, and I submitted my ID when I first applied. Should I prepare anything else?

EDD's system is SO frustrating!! They sent my letter to my old address even though I updated it online TWICE. Then put my claim on hold because THEY messed up. I waited 6 weeks with no payment because of their error. Make sure you call them before your interview to confirm they have your correct address on file.

This is why I ALWAYS print screenshots of everything I do on EDD website. They mess up ALL THE TIME and then blame us!!

I'd recommend updating your address in both places - on your SDI Online account AND on your Benefit Programs Online account. They don't always sync automatically. For your interview, have these ready: 1) Photo ID, 2) Proof of your current address, 3) Your claim number, 4) Contact info for your medical provider, and 5) Last day worked information. The conditional payment should process as they promised, but it's not guaranteed. In most cases, they release the payment while they continue to investigate your eligibility. Just be aware that if they later determine you weren't eligible, you'll need to repay it.

Thank you for the detailed response! I didn't realize I needed to update my address in two different places. That explains why this happened. I'll gather all those documents before the interview.

Try using Claimyr to reach EDD directly (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with a returned mail problem and spent days trying to get through to EDD. Claimyr connected me with an agent in about 20 minutes. Saved me weeks of waiting. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. Worth checking out if you need to talk to someone before your interview date.

Thanks for the tip! I've been so frustrated trying to get through to someone. I'll check this out - I really need to make sure they have my correct info before the interview.

This EXACT thing happened to me!!! The letter was returned because they spelled my street name wrong even though I entered it correctly when I applied! When I finally got through to someone, they said the interview is just a formality in most cases. The conditional payment came through for me 3 days after they said it would (typical EDD lol). Just make sure you pick up when they call for the interview - if you miss it, it can delay things even more. Good luck!!!!

That's really helpful to know! I'll definitely make sure I'm available for the interview. Did they call exactly at the scheduled time or should I be prepared to wait around?

The whole system is designed to make you give up and not get benefits... I went through something similar and my conditional payment took 17 days to arrive instead of the 7 they promised. Then they asked for more medical documentation even though my doctor had already submitted everything. Total nightmare.

This is why I tell everyone to file an appeal immediately if anything goes wrong. The only way to get EDD to move is to escalate it officially.

Quick update on the conditional payment - they typically process on the date promised, but it can take 2-3 banking days to actually appear in your account or on your EDD debit card. So don't panic if it's not there immediately on the processing date they gave you. Also, be sure to keep certifying for your benefits as normal during this review period. Sometimes people stop certifying because they think the review puts everything on hold, but you need to keep submitting those certifications.

Thank you! I wouldn't have known to keep certifying. I'll make sure I stay on top of that while waiting for the interview and payment.

I went through this exact situation last month! The "review required" notice is scary but it's usually just a standard verification process when there's a mailing issue. A few things that helped me: 1) Screenshot everything in your SDI Online account right now - dates, amounts, notices, everything. 2) When you get the interview call, they'll likely just verify your identity and ask about your address change. Have your ID and proof of current address ready. 3) My conditional payment came exactly when they said it would, but like others mentioned, give it 2-3 business days to actually hit your account. The interview was honestly pretty straightforward - they just wanted to confirm I was who I said I was and that I lived where I said I lived. Don't stress too much, this seems to be a common hiccup in their system!

This is so reassuring to hear from someone who just went through this! I'm definitely going to screenshot everything right now - that's such good advice. It sounds like the interview really is just routine verification. I feel a lot less anxious about this whole process now. Thank you for sharing your experience!
