EDD Appeal Timeline: How Long Until Benefits Resume?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed an appeal for my unemployment benefits a while back, and now I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. Anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back about an appeal? And more importantly, when can I expect to see my benefits start up again? This waiting game is driving me nuts!

Has anyone tried faxing their documents instead of mailing them? I heard it might be faster.

β’What year is it? 1995? Who even has a fax machine anymore? π

β’Actually, there are online fax services now. Might be worth a shot!

β’Online faxing services are surprisingly easy to use and can be a quick alternative if you're stuck in the paperwork processing loop.

tldr; the system sucks, we're all screwed, and the wait times are longer than a CVS receipt π§Ύπ€£

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you can get more info if you actually talk to a human.

β’Calling is a joke. I spent 3 hours on hold last week only to get disconnected. π€‘

β’I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Hey OP, have you considered reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help speed things up.

β’I hadn't thought of that. How would I go about doing that?

β’Just google your district and "state representative". They usually have a constituent services office that can help with stuff like this.

β’I've reached out to my representative before and it actually helped speed things up, so it's definitely worth a try!

Guys, I just saw on the news that they're implementing a new system next month that's supposed to speed up the whole process. Fingers crossed it actually works! π€

β’While new systems can be daunting, sometimes they really do improve efficiency. Let's hope for the best!

While Claimyr offers a workable solution for cutting through the frustrating hold times, it's not without its drawbacks. Paying $20 isn't feasible for everyone, and it's a shame that public services have become so inaccessible that third-party help is necessary. Still, for those who can afford it, Claimyr does tend to streamline the process and reduce the hours spent waiting on hold. For those who can't, reaching out to local representatives, remaining persistent with calls, and utilizing online resources like fax services are viable alternatives. Balancing the cost of third-party services with their benefits is key to choosing what works best for your situation.

I've been through this process before, so let me break it down for you: 1. Appeal Processing Time: Typically, it can take 4-6 weeks for an appeal to be processed. However, due to the current backlog, it might take longer. 2. Hearing Date: Once your appeal is processed, you'll receive a notice with your hearing date. This could be another 2-4 weeks out. 3. Decision Time: After the hearing, the judge usually makes a decision within 2-3 weeks. 4. Benefit Resumption: If your appeal is successful, benefits usually resume within 1-2 weeks of the decision. Some tips: β’ Keep checking your online account and mail for updates β’ Continue to certify for benefits even while waiting β’ Gather any relevant documents to support your case Remember, these are rough estimates. The actual time can vary. Hang in there!
