EDD Account Locked Out: Can't Log In or Reach Anyone on Phone. Help!
I'm having a really frustrating issue with my unemployment account. Every time I try to log in, it says I'm locked out. I've been trying to get through to someone on the phone all day yesterday and today, but no luck. It's like the phone just rings and nobody picks up. I even paid extra for a faster callback but still nothing. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to actually talk to a real person?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is such a nightmare rn. I was locked out for weeks and couldn't get anyone on the phone either. It's like they don't want us to get our benefits 🙄

•I heard they're understaffed bc of budget cuts. Still sucks tho

•Yeah, maybe. But come on, it's been years since the pandemic started. You'd think they'd have figured it out by now 🤦♀️

Have you tried resetting your password? Sometimes that can fix the lockout issue. If not, keep calling early in the morning, like right when they open. That's how I finally got through.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•20 bucks? That's steep. Why should we have to pay to access our benefits?

•I get the skepticism, but it really did work for me. After weeks of trying, I was desperate. Yeah, it sucks to pay, but it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved.

•How long did you have to wait once you used the service?

•It took about 2 hours total, but I didn't have to actively wait on hold. The service called me when an agent was on the line.

Here's what worked for me to get my account unlocked: 1. Call the main EDD number (1-800-300-5616) as soon as they open at 8am. 2. Choose option 1 for English, then 1 again for claim questions. 3. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and try again immediately. 4. Once you're in the queue, be prepared to wait. It took me about 2 hours. 5. When you finally get an agent, explain your lockout issue calmly and clearly. 6. They might need to transfer you to a specialist, so be patient. 7. Make sure to write down any case numbers or reference numbers they give you. Hope this helps! It's a frustrating process, but persistence is key. Good luck!

•This! My assemblymember's office was super helpful. They have direct lines to EDD that we don't.

•I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my assemblymember is?

•Just google "find my California assemblymember" and enter your address. Then go to their website and look for a contact form or email specifically for EDD issues.

Have you checked if there are any known system issues or maintenance going on? Sometimes EDD does updates that can cause temporary login problems.

•Good point. Their Twitter account usually posts about outages and stuff.

Protip: if u get locked out, try logging in from a different device or browser. Worked for me when nothing else did!

I went through the exact same thing last month! What finally worked for me was clearing my browser cache and cookies completely, then trying to log in from an incognito/private window. Sometimes the system gets confused with stored login data. Also, try calling the disability line specifically (1-800-480-3287) instead of the main unemployment line - they tend to be less busy and can sometimes help with account issues too. Don't give up, it's super frustrating but you'll get through eventually! 💪

•Thanks for the tip about clearing cache and using incognito mode! I never would have thought about stored login data causing issues. Definitely going to try the disability line too - makes sense that it might be less congested. Really appreciate the encouragement, this whole process has been so stressful 😅

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now! Been locked out for 3 days and it's so frustrating when you need your benefits and can't even get basic help. I tried the early morning calling strategy that @Luca Russo mentioned and finally got through after about 2.5 hours on hold. The agent was actually really helpful once I got connected - she unlocked my account immediately and explained that sometimes the system flags accounts for "suspicious activity" even when there isn't any. She also mentioned that if it happens again, I can try waiting 24 hours before attempting to log in, as some lockouts are temporary. Definitely going to bookmark that assemblymember tip from @Aisha Mahmood too in case this happens again. Stay strong everyone, we'll get through this bureaucratic maze! 🙏

•Wow, 2.5 hours is rough but at least you got through! It's reassuring to hear that the agent was helpful once you finally connected. I've been dealing with this for almost a week now and was starting to worry there was something seriously wrong with my account. The "suspicious activity" thing is so annoying - like what's suspicious about trying to log in to check your own benefits? 🤦♀️ Thanks for sharing the 24-hour waiting tip too, I'll definitely try that before calling again. Really glad you got it sorted out!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Been locked out for 2 days and it's driving me crazy. I tried calling multiple times yesterday but couldn't get through at all. Reading through all these comments is actually really helpful - I had no idea about the assemblymember option or that clearing browser cache might work. Going to try the early morning calling strategy tomorrow and also test the incognito browser thing. It's so frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops just to access our own benefits, but at least it sounds like there are ways to get it resolved. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! 🤞

•Same boat here! 😩 I've been locked out for almost a week now and it's been such a headache. Really appreciate everyone sharing their strategies - I'm definitely going to try that early morning calling approach and the browser cache clearing trick. It's wild that we have to become experts in navigating bureaucracy just to get basic support, but this thread gives me hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with your calls tomorrow! 🍀

This is so relatable! I've been locked out for 5 days now and it's beyond frustrating. Reading everyone's experiences here actually makes me feel less alone in this mess. I'm definitely going to try the combination approach - calling right at 8am tomorrow while also testing that incognito browser trick that @Mateo Gonzalez mentioned. The assemblymember option is genius too @Aisha Mahmood - never occurred to me that they might have direct EDD contacts. It's ridiculous that we need a whole strategy guide just to access our benefits, but I'm grateful for this community sharing solutions. Will report back if I have any success! 🤞

•Ugh, I'm so sorry you're going through this too! 😔 It really does help to know we're not alone in dealing with this broken system. I've been locked out for 3 days now and was starting to panic thinking it was just me. Definitely try that combo approach - seems like multiple people have had success with the early morning calls. Also thinking about trying that claimyr service that @Anastasia Kozlov mentioned if the free methods don t'work out, even though paying $20 for something that should be basic access is annoying. Hope you get through tomorrow! Keep us posted! 🙏
