I'm currently experiencing this EXACT same situation! Filed my maternity SDI claim about 2.5 weeks ago, got approved last Thursday, and received one tiny payment of $103 this past Monday. Since then - absolutely nothing! I've been refreshing my UI Online account probably 20 times a day thinking I broke something during the application process. Finding this thread has been such a godsend - I had no idea this bizarre single payment pattern was actually normal! It's so reassuring to see that literally dozens of us have gone through this identical experience. The anxiety of being on maternity leave with unpredictable income is already overwhelming without having to decode EDD's mysterious payment system. Thank you to everyone who shared their timelines and explanations - based on what I'm reading here, it sounds like my full back payment should arrive within the next week or so. I'm going to try to stop obsessively checking my account and trust that this weird system will eventually catch up!
I'm so relieved to find this thread too! I'm literally going through the exact same thing right now - filed my maternity SDI claim 3 weeks ago, got approved, and received one confusing payment of $78 last week. I've been checking my account obsessively ever since, convinced something was wrong with my application. It's incredible how consistent this weird payment pattern seems to be for all of us! The stress of not knowing when money will arrive during maternity leave is so real, especially when you're already dealing with all the physical and emotional changes of new motherhood. Based on everyone's shared experiences here, it sounds like we should both see our full back payments very soon. I'm going to follow the advice about checking specifically on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thank you for sharing your experience - it helps so much to know we're not alone in navigating this confusing system!
I'm going through this EXACT same situation right now too! Filed my maternity SDI claim about 10 days ago, got approved on Friday, and just received one random payment of $115 yesterday. I've been so confused and worried that something was wrong with my claim since I was expecting regular bi-weekly payments to start right away. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly reassuring - I had no idea this weird single payment followed by a waiting period was actually the standard process! It's so stressful being on maternity leave and not understanding when the next payment will arrive, especially when your savings are getting low. The EDD website really doesn't explain any of this, so finding this community discussion has been a lifesaver. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and timelines - it gives me so much peace of mind to know that this bizarre system actually works and that the full back payment typically comes within 10-14 days of that initial small payment. I'm going to try to be more patient and stop checking my account every few hours!
I'm dealing with this exact issue right now! Got a notification yesterday about a form I need to complete, but when I log into my SDI portal there's absolutely nothing there. Reading through this whole thread has been so reassuring - I was starting to think I was doing something wrong or that my browser was broken. It's really helpful to see @Emma Taylor's timeline where it took 3 full days for the form to appear, and @Owen Jenkins's explanation about the batch processing system makes total sense. I was getting really anxious about that 10-day deadline, but knowing it starts from when the form actually shows up (not the notification date) takes a lot of pressure off. Going to stop checking every few hours and just be patient for the next few days. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is amazing for helping us navigate EDD's confusing system!
@Dylan Mitchell I m'literally in the exact same situation! Just got my notification yesterday too and have been frantically checking my portal every hour thinking something was wrong with my account. This thread has been such a lifesaver - I had no idea this delay was so common with EDD s'system. @Owen Jenkins s explanation'about the separate notification and form delivery systems really clarifies why this happens, and @Emma Taylor s 3-day timeline'gives me a realistic expectation of when to actually expect it to show up. I was about to call in sick tomorrow just to spend the day on hold with EDD, but now I know that s totally unnecessary.'It s so frustrating'that they designed their system this way, but at least we know what to expect now. Going to check once a day instead of every hour and try to be patient with their batch processing cycles!
This entire thread has been incredibly valuable! I'm brand new to the disability system and just got my first notification about a required form yesterday. Before finding this discussion, I was completely panicking thinking I was missing something obvious or that there was an issue with my account. Reading everyone's experiences - especially @Emma Taylor's 3-day timeline, @Owen Jenkins's explanation about the batch processing system, and @Sebastian Scott's insight about forms taking up to a week to appear - has completely changed my perspective. It's so reassuring to know that the 10-day deadline actually starts when the form appears in your portal, not from the notification date. I was literally planning to take a sick day to call EDD, but now I understand that patience is really the key here. Their system design seems pretty flawed with the notification and form delivery systems not syncing up, but at least now I know this delay is totally normal. Going to check once daily and wait for their batch processing to catch up. Thank you all for creating such a helpful resource for newcomers navigating this confusing system!
I'm going through almost the exact same situation right now - work injury, back problems, got denied even with all my paperwork submitted correctly. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful! I've been trying to get through to EDD for over a week with no luck, but seeing that others have successfully gotten answers gives me hope to keep trying. @Aaliyah Jackson - I'm so glad you were able to get through and find out the real reason for your denial! The missing return-to-work date issue seems to be super common based on what everyone is saying. Definitely going to try some of the phone tips people mentioned here, especially the Spanish line suggestion from @Nora Bennett and calling on Tuesday mornings like @Malik Johnson suggested. This whole thread is proof that this community is so valuable - without all these shared experiences, I would have just blindly filed an appeal and waited months for nothing. Now I know to call first and get the specific reason for denial before doing anything else. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and tips!
@Mei Zhang I m'so glad this thread has been helpful for you! It s'amazing how much better prepared we can be when we learn from each other s'experiences. I was feeling completely lost when I first got my denial letter, but seeing how many people have successfully navigated this process even (though it s'frustrating really) gave me the confidence to keep pushing. The phone tips from everyone have been game-changers - I never would have thought to try the Spanish line or track calling patterns. Definitely keep us updated on your progress! It sounds like you re'approaching this much more strategically than I did initially. This community really is a lifesaver when dealing with EDD s'confusing system. Wishing you the best with getting through to them and getting your claim sorted out!
I'm dealing with a very similar situation right now and this whole thread has been incredibly eye-opening! I got denied for SDI last week for what they called "incomplete medical documentation" even though my doctor filled out everything and I have clear imaging showing nerve compression. Reading everyone's experiences here, it sounds like I need to stop panicking and start calling to find out the EXACT reason for denial rather than just assuming the worst. @Aaliyah Jackson - your update about the missing return-to-work date is so helpful! It's crazy how something that specific can cause a complete denial but not be clearly explained in the denial letter. I'm definitely going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning using some of the strategies people mentioned here (especially the Tuesday 8 AM tip and possibly the Spanish line if I can't get through). This community is amazing - without reading all these shared experiences, I would have wasted weeks on an appeal for potentially the wrong reason. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their stories and practical advice. It's giving me hope that this can actually get resolved relatively quickly once I know what needs to be fixed!
@Landon Flounder I m'really glad this thread has been helpful for you too! It s'such a relief to know we re'not alone in dealing with these confusing EDD denials. The incomplete "medical documentation reason" is so vague and frustrating - it could literally mean anything from a missing signature to a blank field that seems insignificant. Based on everyone s'experiences here, calling really does seem to be the key to getting specific answers rather than wasting time guessing what went wrong. I d'definitely recommend trying multiple calling strategies - the Spanish line tip from @Nora Bennett was genius, and the Tuesday morning timing from @Malik Johnson seems to be working for people. One thing I ve learned from'reading through all these stories is to have your claim number ready and maybe even write down specific questions beforehand so you don t forget anything'important when you finally get through to a rep. The fact that @Aaliyah Jackson was able to get her issue resolved with just a corrected form instead of going through the whole appeal process gives me so much hope! Keep us posted on what you find out when you call - your experience might help the next person dealing with this same situation. We re all in this'together! 🤞
As a newcomer to this community and SDI benefits, I can't thank everyone enough for this incredibly detailed discussion! I'm currently in the process of filing my first SDI claim for a workplace back injury and was completely lost about the tax implications. Like so many others here, I naively assumed disability benefits wouldn't be taxable at all. Reading through everyone's experiences - especially those who got blindsided by federal tax bills - has been such a wake-up call. It's honestly shocking how EDD doesn't make the federal vs state tax difference more prominent during the application process. I'm definitely going to submit that DE 4P form for federal tax withholding as soon as my claim is approved. The advice about setting up withholding from day one rather than risking a surprise tax bill seems like the smart approach based on all the stories shared here. This community is such an amazing resource for newcomers trying to navigate the complexities of the EDD system. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their hard-learned lessons!
Welcome to the community @Yara Assad! I'm also completely new here and just started my SDI claim last week for a work-related wrist injury. This thread has been absolutely life-changing for my understanding of the whole process! Like you and so many others, I went into this thinking disability benefits were totally tax-free - boy was I wrong! It's really alarming how many experienced members here got caught off guard by those federal tax bills. I've already bookmarked this thread and plan to reference it when my claim gets approved. The DE 4P form submission through the online portal seems like the way to go based on everyone's advice. It's frustrating that such crucial tax info isn't front and center during the application process, but thankfully we found this amazing community to guide us newcomers through it all. Hope your back recovery goes smoothly and thanks for adding your perspective to this incredibly valuable discussion!
Just joined this community today and this thread has been absolutely invaluable! I'm in the middle of filing my first SDI claim for a shoulder injury from a workplace accident and had zero clue about the tax situation. Like literally everyone else here, I assumed disability benefits weren't taxable at all - clearly I had a lot to learn! Reading through all these experiences has been both educational and slightly terrifying seeing how many people got hit with unexpected federal tax bills. I'm definitely going to submit that DE 4P form for federal tax withholding the moment my claim gets approved - seems like that's the consensus move to avoid any nasty surprises come tax season. It's really unfortunate that EDD doesn't make this federal vs state tax distinction more clear upfront during the application process. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories, especially those who learned the hard way and are helping the rest of us newcomers avoid the same mistakes. This community is such a goldmine of practical advice for navigating the EDD system!
Welcome to the community @Oliver Weber! I'm also brand new here and just submitted my SDI application this morning for a back injury from my warehouse job. This thread has been such a lifesaver - I was in the exact same boat thinking disability benefits were completely tax-free! It's honestly incredible how many of us newcomers had absolutely no idea about this federal vs state tax split. Reading through everyone's experiences here has definitely saved me from what could have been a really rude awakening next tax season. I'm planning to get that DE 4P form submitted through the online portal as soon as my claim goes through - the consensus here seems pretty clear that setting up federal withholding from the start is way better than getting slammed with a big tax bill later. Really appreciate you adding your voice to this discussion and hope your shoulder recovery goes well!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! My extension was approved 6 days ago, I can see the updated benefit period in my SDI Online account, but there's absolutely no continued claim certification form anywhere - not in my inbox, not under Forms, nothing in physical mail either. Reading through everyone's experiences has been both reassuring and infuriating - reassuring because I'm clearly not the only one dealing with this, but infuriating because this is obviously a widespread systematic issue that EDD refuses to properly address. The fact that they send an "extension approved" text but don't mention you'll need another form to actually GET PAID is just cruel. I'm definitely going to try the 8am calling strategy tomorrow and ask specifically about the DE 2502 form and any "system flags" on my account like others have mentioned. It's ridiculous that we all have to become EDD system troubleshooters just to access benefits we've already paid into, but I'm grateful for all the advice shared here. This community has been more helpful than anything EDD has provided! Hopefully I can get through tomorrow and finally get this mess sorted out. Will update with results in case it helps others going through this nightmare.

•@Caleb Bell I m'new to this community but have been following this thread and I m'amazed at how many people are experiencing this exact same issue! It s'really eye-opening to see how EDD s'system consistently fails people at such a critical point - getting an extension approved but then having payments held up because of a missing form that should generate automatically. Your plan to call at 8am tomorrow sounds solid based on what everyone else has shared. The collective wisdom in this thread about asking for the DE 2502 form specifically and checking for system "flags seems" to be the key to getting this resolved. It s'honestly incredible that we all have to become amateur EDD technical support specialists just to get our own benefits! As someone just learning about these issues, I m'really struck by how this community has stepped up to help each other navigate what should be a straightforward government process. The fact that EDD doesn t'proactively communicate about this certification requirement when they approve extensions is just inexcusable, especially when people are already dealing with medical issues and financial stress. Good luck with your call tomorrow - I hope you get through quickly and get this nightmare resolved! Please do share how it goes since your experience could help others who find this thread in the future.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! My extension was approved 5 days ago and I can see the updated benefit period in my SDI Online account, but there's absolutely no continued claim certification form anywhere - not in my inbox, Forms tab, or physical mail. This thread has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea about the DE 2502 form or that extensions required this separate certification step. It's absolutely ridiculous that EDD sends that "extension approved" confirmation but doesn't mention you need to complete another form to actually receive payments! Based on everyone's experiences here, I'm going to try calling right at 8am tomorrow and ask specifically about: - The DE 2502 Continued Claim Certification form - Any "system flags" or data entry errors on my account - Pending actions that might be preventing the form from generating - Whether all my personal information is entered correctly in their system It's honestly shameful that we're all here troubleshooting EDD's broken system for each other because they can't provide basic instructions or make their process work properly. But this community support has been a lifesaver when you're already dealing with medical issues and bills piling up! @Andre Laurent I hope you were able to get this resolved by now! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions - hopefully we can all get this nightmare sorted out soon. I'll update after my call tomorrow in case it helps others going through the same thing.
