Is anyone getting the new CalWORKs stimulus payment? County worker mentioned it but nothing in writing
So I had my redetermination interview yesterday and my caseworker casually mentioned something about a new stimulus payment coming soon for CalWORKs families? She said something like $750 for a family of 4 but didn't go into details and I was too focused on getting my recertification done to ask follow-up questions. I've been searching BenefitsCal and can't find any official announcements. Has anyone else's worker mentioned this or gotten any notices? I don't want to get my hopes up if I misunderstood, but that extra money would help with my kids' school supplies and winter clothes. I've looked through the CDSS website too but maybe I'm missing something?

I haven't heard anything about this from my worker and I just had my SAR7 processed last week. Sometimes they announce these things to workers before posting public info. What county are you in? Maybe it's county-specific?

•I'm in Alameda County. That's a good point - maybe it is just for certain counties. I'm going to try calling tomorrow to get more details. I'm hoping it's real because my car needs repairs badly.

•No, she just mentioned it in passing when we were talking about upcoming changes to my benefits. Didn't give any timeline. I hope your sister gets it again this year too!

I work with families receiving CalWORKs benefits, and I can confirm there is a one-time supplemental payment being implemented in some counties as part of the 2025 fiscal year budget. However, the exact amounts and distribution dates vary by county as they're rolling this out in phases. The payment is intended to help families with children's basic needs and is separate from your regular Cash Aid. Not all counties have announced implementation dates yet, which is probably why you're not finding official information. Your worker shouldn't have mentioned it without giving you complete details though - that just causes confusion.

•Thank you so much for confirming! I thought I was going crazy or had misheard. Do you know if there's any specific eligibility requirements besides being an active CalWORKs recipient? And any idea when Alameda County might distribute it?

•From what I understand, you need to be an active CalWORKs recipient with children in the household during the month of distribution. Some counties are also prioritizing families who have been participating consistently in their WTW activities. For Alameda specifically, I believe they're targeting late February for the distribution, but that's subject to change. Your best bet is to keep your contact information updated and make sure you're meeting all your reporting requirements so you don't miss any notices.

I've learned to NEVER COUNT ON ANYTHING until the money actually hits my account!!! Too many times they promise stuff and then change eligibility at the last minute or delay it for months. My worker told me about extra childcare money last year and I never saw a penny of it even after calling 20 times!!!!

•THIS!!! The system is designed to get our hopes up and then crush them. I bet there's a bunch of fine print requirements they're not telling us about. Watch, it'll probably only be for people who have jobs or something.

•While I understand your frustration with past experiences, this supplemental payment is actually part of the approved state budget. It's not a promise - it's funded and will be distributed. However, you're right to wait for official notification before counting on it for essential expenses.

I just called my county office and asked about this. The worker I spoke to confirmed there is a one-time supplemental payment coming for CalWORKs families with children, but said they're still finalizing the implementation details. She couldn't give me an exact date but said we should receive a notice in the mail when it's officially announced. By the way, if you're having trouble getting through to your CalWORKs office to ask about this, I used a service called Claimyr to get a callback instead of waiting on hold forever. It worked great - you can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE or just go to claimyr.com. Saved me a ton of time since I needed to ask some specific questions about this payment.

•Thank you for checking and for the tip! I've been trying to call my county office all morning and keep getting disconnected after 20+ minutes on hold. I'll check out that service because I really need to ask some follow-up questions about my WTW hours too, not just about this payment.

My friend works for CDSS and she told me this payment is real but they're calling it a "winter supplemental payment" not a stimulus. The amount is based on family size - she said $450 for 1-2 members, $650 for 3-4, and $850 for 5+. But don't quote me on the exact amounts because I might have misremembered. She said not all counties are participating though.

•I don't know all the counties, sorry! She just mentioned that the larger counties were implementing first, and some smaller counties might opt out completely. I think San Bernardino is big enough that you'd probably be included, but don't take my word for it.

Just got home from my WTW appointment and specifically asked about this. My employment specialist confirmed it's happening! She said they just had a staff meeting about it yesterday. In our county, they're planning to issue the payments in early March. She said all active CalWORKs cases with children will get it automatically - no separate application needed. Just make sure your address is current so you get the notice when they mail it out!

•That's such a relief to hear! March isn't too far away. I just submitted my address update last month after we moved, so hopefully everything is current in their system. Thanks for sharing!

i heard about this too but my cousin said its only for people who are working and meeting their WTW hours. im exempt because of my baby so i bet i wont get it. they always find a way to exclude someone.

•That's incorrect information. The supplemental payment is for all CalWORKs families with children in the assistance unit, regardless of WTW participation status. If you have an exemption, you're still eligible. The payment is based on your approved CalWORKs case, not your work participation.

•Really? That's good news then. Sorry for spreading bad info, that's just what I heard. I never know what to believe anymore with all the rule changes.

UPDATE: I finally got through to my worker today! She confirmed everything and gave me more details. It's officially called the "CalWORKs Family Support Supplement" and it IS happening in most counties including Alameda. Payment amounts are $500 for 1-2 family members, $750 for 3-4, and $900 for 5+. They'll be sending official notices in February and payments should start going out in March. She said it's for all CalWORKs families with children and we don't need to do anything special to get it. Just make sure your case is active and address is current! Thanks everyone for the help confirming this was real. I was starting to think I'd imagined the whole conversation!
