When is the CalWORKs $291 supplemental payment hitting accounts? Heard something but no details

So I just heard from my cousin that there's some kinda special $291 payment coming to CalWORKs families soon? Anybody know what this is about or when we're supposed to get it? I checked my BenefitsCal account and don't see nothing about it. My EBT card balance is the regular amount. Is this real or just some rumor going around? I got 2 kids and every extra bit helps with school stuff coming up.

Did they say when it's supposed to come through? I'm trying to figure out if I should wait to pay my electric bill or not.

This is the CalWORKs Family Support Supplement that was announced in March. It's a one-time $291 payment for each child in the assistance unit that qualifies. They're rolling it out by county in phases during May-June 2025. You should get a notice in the mail about 10 days before the payment is deposited to your EBT card. The timeline depends on your county and case number. It's not based on income reporting or anything - if you have children included in your CalWORKs case, you'll get it automatically.

Thank you!! This is exactly what I needed to know. So we don't have to apply for it or anything? It just comes automatically if we already get Cash Aid for our kids?

That's right, no application needed. It's automatic for families with children in the assistance unit. Just keep an eye on your mail for the notice and make sure your address is current with the county.

I just got mine yesterday!!! $582 for my two kids! Showed up on my EBT card as "SUPP PAYMENT" when I checked the balance. I'm in San Diego County if that helps anyone know when theirs might come.

wait does everyone get the same amount??? i only got $291 total for my 3 kids. this doesn't sound right...

It should be $291 PER CHILD in your CalWORKs case. If you have 3 children included in your case, you should receive $873 total. Check if all your children are currently included in your assistance unit. Sometimes older teens get removed if they're not meeting school requirements or have aged out. If you think there's an error, you should contact your county worker immediately.

Just to add some clarification - this is the California-specific supplement that was approved in the state budget, not a federal program. The payment is $291 per eligible child and should be automatically issued to your EBT card on the same day you normally receive your regular Cash Aid. Counties are processing these in different batches depending on their caseload, so everyone will get it at slightly different times between May and June. If you don't receive it by the end of June, that's when you should contact your worker.

I had the same issue last month trying to reach my worker about my SAR7. Finally used a service called Claimyr that got me through to a real person at the county in about 10 minutes. You pay them and they basically wait on hold for you then call you when they get someone. Saved me hours of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE - totally worth it when you're dealing with something time-sensitive like this payment.

Yes, this is completely different from the Golden State Stimulus from a few years ago. That was during COVID and went to most Californians based on their tax returns. This $291 per child payment is specifically for families receiving CalWORKs Cash Aid and is only going to households with children in their assistance unit.

I just called my county and they said my payment is scheduled for NEXT WEEK!!!! So excited, this will help me catch up on utilities. FYI I'm in Los Angeles County and my case number starts with 7. They said they're doing them in batches based on the first digit of your case number. Hope this helps someone else!!

Nice! Glad to hear it's coming soon for you. The money came in handy for us. Used it to get my kids some new clothes they've been needing.
