Will I qualify for the new CalWORKs stimulus payment if I got both Golden State Stimulus payments?
I received both Golden State Stimulus 1 and 2 back when they were giving those out. Now I'm hearing there's some new stimulus payment coming for CalWORKs recipients in 2025? My caseworker never mentioned anything about this when I had my redetermination last month. Does anyone know if I'll qualify for this new stimulus payment if I'm currently on Cash Aid with 2 kids? I'm trying to plan my budget for next year and this would really help with school supplies and winter clothes.

•My neighbor mentioned it last week. She said there's supposed to be a one-time payment coming next year but she doesn't know all the details either. That's why I'm asking here.

There is no new "stimulus payment" specifically coming for CalWORKs recipients in 2025. The Golden State Stimulus payments were one-time payments during the pandemic years, and those programs have ended. What might be happening is: 1. The regular CalWORKs grant amounts are increasing slightly in October 2025 as part of the annual cost of living adjustment 2. Some counties occasionally provide special needs payments or supplemental payments for specific situations like disaster relief 3. Your neighbor might be confusing it with the tax refund/EITC/CalEITC if you file taxes But there is no statewide stimulus program currently planned for 2025 for CalWORKs families. I would suggest calling your county worker to verify any information about increased payments.

•Oh thank you for clearing that up. I was getting my hopes up for nothing I guess. Do you know how much the grant amount is increasing by in October? Even a small increase would help with my budget planning.

The previous commenter is correct - there's no new statewide stimulus program for 2025. The grant increase for October 2025 hasn't been officially announced yet, but based on previous years, it will likely be around 2-3% depending on inflation calculations. If you're trying to plan your budget and have 2 kids, have you looked into other CalWORKs supports beyond just the cash grant? Many people don't realize that CalWORKs offers: - Child care assistance if you're working or in approved training - $47 monthly diaper allowance for each child under 3 - Transportation assistance for approved WTW activities - Once-yearly clothing allowance (usually in August/September) Also, make sure you're getting the maximum cash grant you qualify for. If your income has decreased or you've had another child since your last redetermination, report those changes right away.

•Thank you for all this info! I didn't know about the diaper allowance and my youngest is still in diapers. I'm going to ask about that at my next appointment. I'm working part-time but struggling with childcare costs so I'll definitely look into the childcare assistance too.

I was at my county office yesterday and overheard someone talking about a 'special payment' coming in early 2025 but it's only for families who have been on CalWORKs for less than 6 months and are enrolled in Welfare to Work activities. Maybe that's what your neighbor was talking about?

•That sounds like it might be referring to the WTW participation incentive payment that some counties offer. It's not a statewide program and the eligibility and amount varies by county. It's not technically a stimulus but rather an incentive for meeting your WTW participation requirements. Worth asking your worker about if you're participating in WTW activities!

This happens ALL THE TIME with CalWORKs!! People spread rumors about extra payments and then everyone gets disappointed. Last year my sister-in-law told me we were getting extra money for back-to-school and I called my worker THREE TIMES trying to find out about it and guess what? No such program existed!!! The county workers never call back anyway so it took forever to even get this answer. The system is set up to keep us confused and in the dark!!

•I feel your frustration about not being able to reach workers! I was in the same boat trying to verify a rumor about increased homeless assistance payments. Spent days trying to get through on the phone. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a live worker in about 15 minutes. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Saved me hours of redial frustration and I was able to get accurate information directly from my worker instead of relying on rumors. Might be worth checking out if you need to reach your worker quickly about any benefit questions.

•Thanks, yeah I do work part-time so I always file taxes. The EITC does help a lot each year!

One important thing to remember: if you hear about any new benefits or payments, always verify the information directly with your county worker or through the official CDSS website. Misinformation spreads quickly in benefit communities, and while people usually have good intentions when sharing what they've heard, details often get confused or mixed up with other programs. If you have trouble reaching your worker by phone (which is unfortunately common), you can also: 1. Send a message through BenefitsCal if you have an online account 2. Visit your county office in person and ask to speak with a worker 3. Send a written request for information through certified mail It's always better to verify than to count on money that may not exist in your budget planning.

•Sending a message through BenefitsCal is USELESS! I sent THREE messages about my SAR7 and nobody responded for weeks. By the time they did, they'd already cut my benefits for 'failure to submit' even though I did submit it! The system is designed to frustrate people so they'll give up.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information. I'm going to stop by the county office next week to ask about the childcare assistance and diaper allowance that was mentioned. Good to know there's no actual stimulus coming so I won't plan my budget around that. And I'll definitely look into that Claimyr service since I always have trouble reaching my worker by phone.

•Good plan! When you go to the county office, be sure to bring your ID and case number. For the childcare assistance, they'll likely give you a CW 8 form to complete, and you'll need your childcare provider's information. For the diaper benefit, make sure they have your child's correct birth date in the system. Good luck!

•Also wanted to add - when you're at the county office asking about childcare assistance, make sure to mention if you're doing any Welfare to Work activities like job training, education, or job search. The childcare support is usually tied to those activities. And if you haven't already, ask about the transportation assistance too since you mentioned working part-time. Sometimes they can help with bus passes or gas vouchers for work-related travel. It all adds up when you're trying to make ends meet!

Hey Connor! Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been on CalWORKs for a while now. I think what might be happening is people are mixing up different programs or maybe hearing about county-specific pilot programs that don't apply everywhere. I've learned the hard way to always double-check any rumors about extra money - last year I heard about some "emergency payment" that turned out to be only for people affected by wildfires in specific counties. One thing that might help with your budget planning though - have you looked into the local food banks and WIC if your kids qualify? I know it's not cash, but it can free up some of your grocery budget for other necessities like those school supplies and winter clothes you mentioned. Also, some school districts have programs that help with supplies and clothing - worth asking at your kids' schools. Good luck with getting the real info from your county office!

•Thanks Yara! You're absolutely right about double-checking rumors - I'm definitely learning that lesson now. I actually do get WIC for my youngest and it helps a lot with the grocery budget. I hadn't thought about asking the schools directly about supply programs though, that's a great idea! My kids' school sent home some flyers at the beginning of the year but I didn't pay much attention. I'll definitely look into that when I go to the county office next week. It's frustrating how much misinformation gets passed around but I'm grateful for communities like this where people share real experiences and actual helpful resources.

I'm new to this community but I've been on CalWORKs for about 8 months now with my 3-year-old daughter. Reading through all these responses has been really eye-opening! I had no idea about some of these additional benefits like the diaper allowance - definitely going to ask about that at my next appointment. It's frustrating how much confusing information gets passed around, but I really appreciate everyone taking the time to clarify things. I've been struggling to reach my caseworker too (the phone system is awful), so I'm going to check out that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Connor, I hope your visit to the county office goes well! Let us know what you find out about the childcare assistance - I'm working part-time too and childcare costs are eating up most of my paycheck. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful and sharing real information instead of just rumors.

•Welcome to the community Mateo! It's great that you're asking questions and getting informed about all the available benefits. I've been on CalWORKs for about 2 years now and I wish I had known about some of these programs when I first started - would have saved me a lot of stress and money. The diaper allowance is a real lifesaver, especially with how expensive diapers are these days. Also, since you mentioned childcare costs eating up your paycheck, definitely ask about the childcare assistance program when you call. In my county, they can pay most of the childcare costs directly to the provider once you get approved. It took a few weeks to process but it was worth the wait. Good luck navigating the system!
