CalWORKs recipients - anyone get Golden State Stimulus on EBT/Emerald card yet?

Just wondering if any other CalWORKs families have gotten their Golden State Stimulus payment loaded onto their EBT card or Emerald card yet? My caseworker mentioned something about it coming through the same way as our regular Cash Aid, but I haven't seen anything show up. My sister who gets direct deposit for her regular benefits already got hers last week. I'm worried because my rent is due soon and I'm counting on that extra money. Has anyone using the card payment method received it yet? How long did it take to show up after you got approved?

I got mine on my EBT card yesterday morning! But I'm on CalFresh too, so idk if that makes any difference. My friend who's also on CalWORKs got hers on her Emerald card 2 days ago. Maybe call the customer service number on the back of ur card to check if somethings pending? The payment actually shows up different than the regular Cash Aid in your transaction history, it says "GSS PYMT" instead of "CASH BENEFIT".

Thanks! I'll check my transaction history more carefully. I usually just look at the total balance but maybe it's there and I missed it. Did your payment come on your normal Cash Aid date or was it random?

I've been in the CalWORKs system for 9 years, and from what I understand, stimulus payments usually follow the same schedule as regular Cash Aid deposits. If your Cash Aid normally hits your Emerald card on the 1st, the stimulus would likely follow the same pattern. However, there have been delays with the current round of GSS payments. Some counties are processing them faster than others. I would suggest calling your county CalWORKs office directly to ask about the status of your stimulus payment. You can also check BenefitsCal to see if there's any information about the pending payment in your account.

Calling the county is such a JOKE!!! I tried 8 TIMES yesterday and kept getting disconnected or put on hold for 2+ hrs until they closed for the day!!! This is NOT right when we NEED this money for our kids! My WTW counselor doesn't even know when the payments are coming and keeps telling me different things every time I ask. The system is BROKEN!!!

The Golden State Stimulus payment amounts vary based on different factors including your income, tax filing status, and whether you have dependents. CalWORKs recipients generally qualify, but the exact amount depends on these other factors. Your neighbor might have qualified for additional amounts if they had more qualifying dependents or met other criteria for the higher payment tiers. You can check the exact eligibility criteria on the FTB website.

When I went thru this last time, I used a service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person at the CalWORKs office after trying for days on my own. You go to claimyr.com and they basically call for you and get you to the front of the phone queue. Then they call you when there's a real person on the line. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. It saved me so much time and frustration when I was trying to figure out why my stimulus payment hadn't shown up yet (turned out they had my card number wrong).

It worked for me! Got through to an actual worker in less than an hour after trying on my own for 3 days. Just make sure you have your case number and all your info ready when they connect you.

Just to clarify some confusion I'm seeing in the comments - the Golden State Stimulus is NOT the same thing as your regular CalWORKs Cash Aid. GSS is a separate California state payment, while your monthly CalWORKs benefits are ongoing as long as you remain eligible and complete your SAR7 and annual recertification on time. If your address or payment information has changed recently, that could delay your stimulus payment. Also, make sure that you've filed taxes for the qualifying year since some stimulus eligibility is based on tax returns. If you believe you should have received the payment by now, you should contact your county office or check your BenefitsCal account for any notices.

wait im so confused. do u need to file taxes to get the stimulus if ur on calworks??? i havent filed taxes in 3 years because i dont make enough income to file. does that mean i wont get the stimulus money???? nobody told me this!!!

@profile4 - CalWORKs recipients typically qualify for the Golden State Stimulus automatically without needing to file taxes, but it depends on which specific GSS payment round we're talking about. For the most recent round, most CalWORKs families should receive it automatically if they were active recipients during the qualifying month. However, some previous rounds did require tax filing. The best way to confirm is to contact your caseworker with your specific situation.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! I FINALLY got through to someone at my county office this morning. Turns out there was an issue with my address that was causing the delay. My stimulus payment should be on my Emerald card within 3-5 business days. For anyone else still waiting, definitely double-check that all your information is updated in the system. And I might try that Claimyr service next time I need to call in - sounds way better than waiting on hold for hours!

Im having a similar problem but with my regular calworks payment not the stimulus. My february payment never showed up on my card and now its march and im about to be homeless with my 3 kids. Does anyone know if the welfare office has emergency payments they can issue? My worker never answers the phone

Yes, CalWORKs does have emergency procedures for immediate need and emergency payments when regular benefits are delayed or missing. You should request an "Immediate Need" payment, which they can typically process within 3 business days. Also, ask about Homeless Assistance if you're at risk of eviction - this is separate from your regular Cash Aid and can provide temporary shelter payments or move-in costs. Document everything and be persistent about reaching your worker - supervisors can override and issue emergency payments when necessary.
