Is a second P-EBT payment coming for school-age children in CalFresh households?

Has anyone received information about a potential second P-EBT payment for 2025? My case worker mentioned something about additional benefits being distributed for school-age children in CalFresh households, but I haven't seen anything official yet. My kids' school still has the reduced lunch program, and they qualified for P-EBT last issuance. I'm trying to budget for the next few months, so knowing if another payment is coming would really help. I called the EBT customer service line, but they couldn't confirm anything. Thanks for any info!

My caseworker mentioned it when I was doing my SAR7 last month, but she wasn't 100% sure. That's why I'm trying to confirm if anyone else has heard anything.

There's been some confusion about this. P-EBT is different from regular CalFresh. The P-EBT program was primarily a pandemic benefit that provided food assistance to families with children who would have received free or reduced-price meals if schools weren't closed due to COVID. For 2025, there's no second general issuance scheduled that I'm aware of. However, some counties may be issuing supplemental payments to certain eligible households that were underpaid in previous distributions. If your caseworker mentioned it specifically for your case, it's possible your household was identified for a correction payment. I'd recommend calling your county office directly to get clarification about your specific situation.

This is right. My sister works for DPSS and said theres no second payment planned right now. The program is basically ended except for those correction payments. But regular CalFresh benefits are still going out monthly as usual - dont confuse the two!!

The EBT customer service line is USELESS for these kinds of questions!!! They NEVER have current information and just read from scripts. I spent 45 minutes on hold last month trying to ask about my kids' P-EBT cards and got disconnected TWICE. You need to talk to your actual county worker, not the EBT line. P-EBT and regular CalFresh are completely different systems.

I had the same frustrating experience! If you're still having trouble getting through to your county worker, I discovered a service called Claimyr that helped me get through. You go to claimyr.com and they actually call the county office for you and then connect you once they reach a real person. Saved me from having to stay on hold for hours. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. It's the only way I could get a straight answer about my benefits situation.

ok so this is confusing me... my kid got a P-EBT payment in January and then another smaller one in April. are we talking about the same thing? or is that different from what your asking about? the April one was like 25% of the January amount. nobody told me why it was different amounts.

The April payment was likely a supplemental or correction payment. Each P-EBT distribution is calculated based on your child's school schedule, free/reduced lunch eligibility, and how many qualifying days occurred during specific periods. The smaller amount probably covered fewer qualifying days or was addressing an underpayment from the previous issuance. To the original poster: There's no standard second P-EBT payment scheduled for all recipients in 2025. Any mention of additional payments would be case-specific. You should contact your county office directly for accurate information about your household's benefits.

this happened to me last year!! my worker said we were getting another payment but it never came. when i finally got thru to someone they said my worker was confused and mixing up P-EBT with the regular CalFresh emergency allotments which ended years ago. so frustrating how even the workers dont understand the different programs!!!

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I don't want to count on money that's not actually coming. I'll try to get through to the county office tomorrow and get a definite answer. It seems like there's a lot of confusion around these benefits, even among the workers.

My kids school sent home a flyer about summer EBT which is different from P-EBT maybe that's what your worker was talking about? It's for when school is out in summer so kids still get food money. Check if your state is doing that program maybe?

This is a good point. Summer EBT is a relatively new program that provides food benefits to eligible children during summer break when school meals aren't available. California is participating in this program for 2025. If your children qualify for free or reduced-price school meals, they might be eligible for Summer EBT benefits. This could be what your caseworker was referring to, rather than a second P-EBT payment. Definitely contact your county office to clarify which specific program was being referenced. CalFresh, P-EBT, and Summer EBT are related but separate programs with different eligibility requirements and payment schedules.
