Can't find SAR 7 form on BenefitsCal website - where did it go?

I just tried logging into the new BenefitsCal website to fill out my SAR 7 since it's due next week, but I can't find it anywhere! The old C4Yourself site had a clear section for uploading the SAR 7, but I've been clicking around for 30 minutes and can't figure out where they moved it. Did they completely remove the option to submit the SAR 7 online? Do I seriously have to print and mail it now? My caseworker never answers the phone and I really don't want my CalWORKs benefits to get cut off because of this. Has anyone else figured out how to submit the SAR 7 on the new system?

omg same!!! been looking everywhere for it. the new website is so confusing. maybe they want us to fail so they can cut our benefits 🙄

The SAR 7 is definitely still available, but they moved things around in the BenefitsCal update. Log in, go to "Documents" tab (not "Forms" which is confusing), then click "Upload Document" and select "Semi-Annual Report" from the dropdown menu. You'll need to download the blank form first, fill it out, then scan/photograph it to upload. It's not as convenient as the old system where you could fill it out directly online.

I had teh same problem!! So annoying they keep changing stuff. I think you gotta download it first and then upload it after you fill it out. Not sure tho

Thanks for responding. That's even MORE work than before! I don't have a printer at home so I'd have to go to the library to print it, fill it out, then scan it back in? That makes no sense when we used to be able to just fill it out online directly.

The system changed in January and they did remove the ability to complete the SAR 7 directly online. There are now three ways to submit it: 1. Download, print, complete by hand, then upload through BenefitsCal (Documents tab > Upload Document > Semi-Annual Report) 2. Request a paper copy by mail, complete and return by mail 3. Visit your county office in person to pick up and/or submit the form My recommendation: Call your county office and ask them to mail you a paper copy with a return envelope. That way you don't need a printer. Make sure to explain your situation clearly and confirm they'll mail it right away since your due date is approaching.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! I've been trying to call my county office for THREE DAYS and keep getting disconnected or stuck on hold forever. My SAR 7 is due next Friday and I'm getting really anxious about it. Do you know if they'll immediately cut my benefits if it's a few days late, or is there some grace period?

This new system is DELIBERATELY DESIGNED to make it harder for people to stay on benefits!! I've been on CalWORKs for 3 years and every "upgrade" makes things more complicated. They won't answer phones, they hide forms, they make deadlines impossible to meet, then act surprised when people get discontinued. It's all part of their plan to reduce their caseloads!

I was thinking the same thing... feels like they're trying to trick people into missing deadlines. My worker actually told me they've had a huge increase in discontinuances since the website change because people couldn't figure out how to submit their reports on time.

I had the exact same issue last month and almost missed my deadline. If you're having trouble reaching someone at the county, try using Claimyr.com - it's this service that helps you get through to a live person at social services without waiting on hold forever. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE I was skeptical but it actually worked and I got through to someone who explained the new SAR 7 process to me and sent me a paper form. Saved my benefits from being cut off.

Thank you for this suggestion! I've never heard of this service before, but I'm desperate at this point. Did they actually get you through to a real caseworker? I'll check out the video.

Good luck with that lol. I went to my county office last month and had to wait 3.5 hours just to talk to someone for 5 minutes. The wait times are insane since they reopened after covid. Better off trying to call.

Just to clarify about the timeline since you mentioned being worried about getting cut off: For SAR 7 forms, you technically have until the end of the month it's due in before they'll start the discontinuance process. So if your form is due on the 10th, you actually have until the last day of that month before your benefits would stop. However, if you submit it after the due date but before the end of the month, your next month's benefits might be delayed while they process the late report. Always best to submit before the actual due date, but there is a bit of a grace period built in.

That's such a relief to hear! So even if I can't get it submitted by next Friday, I still have about two more weeks before I'd actually lose benefits. That takes some pressure off, but I still want to get it done ASAP. Thanks for explaining that.

I went through this last month! What worked for me was going to the main CalWORKs page on BenefitsCal, then clicking on "Resources" at the bottom, then "Forms Library." The SAR 7 should be listed there for download. After you fill it out, you upload it through the Documents section. Also, I learned that if you have a smartphone, you can download the form, take a picture of a blank piece of paper, use a photo editing app to add text over the picture to fill in the form, then upload that. No printer needed! Sounds complicated but actually easier than finding a printer.

This is actually a really clever workaround! You can also use free mobile apps like Adobe Fill & Sign that let you complete PDF forms right on your phone, then save and upload them. Great suggestion for those without printers.

when i had this problem my worker told me to just take pictures of each page of the SAR 7 and text them to her directly... might be worth asking your worker if thats an option

I called yesterday bout this exact same thing and spent 2 HOURS on hold just to be told they can't help over the phone and I need to come in person!!! But I have a job now (part time but still) and can't just take off to sit at the county office all day. The system is BROKEN.

That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr. I couldn't take time off work either, but needed to reach someone. I got through in about 15 minutes instead of hours on hold, and the worker I spoke with was actually helpful. They told me I could mail the completed SAR 7 if I couldn't submit it online or come in person.

I'm dealing with the same frustrating situation! Just wanted to add that if you have access to a public library, most of them have computers where you can download the SAR 7 form, fill it out digitally using their computers, and then either print it to mail OR save it to a USB drive/email it to yourself to upload through BenefitsCal later. The librarians are usually really helpful with this kind of stuff too. Some libraries even have scanners you can use for free if you need to scan a handwritten form. It's not ideal that we have to jump through all these hoops now, but at least it's an option for those without printers at home.

That's a great suggestion about the library! I didn't even think about that option. My local library does have free computer and printing services, and you're right that the librarians are super helpful. I might try that route since I'm still having trouble getting through to anyone at the county office. Thanks for the practical advice - it's nice to have people in this community who actually try to help instead of just complaining about the system (though the complaints are totally valid too!).

I'm new here and just went through this exact same nightmare last week! What finally worked for me was calling the BenefitsCal customer service line (1-877-847-3663) instead of my county office. The wait was still long but not as bad, and they walked me through finding the form step by step. They told me to log in, click "My Dashboard," then scroll down to "Quick Actions" and look for "Submit Required Documents." From there you can select SAR 7 from a dropdown menu. The rep also mentioned that if you're really stuck, you can request to have a paper form mailed to you through that same Quick Actions section - just select "Request Paper Form" instead. Hope this helps someone avoid the stress I went through!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been struggling with the same issue and getting nowhere with my county office. The BenefitsCal customer service number is definitely something I hadn't tried yet. I really appreciate you taking the time to write out the exact steps - "My Dashboard" then "Quick Actions" sounds way more straightforward than the maze I've been wandering through on that website. Going to try calling that number first thing tomorrow morning. It's so helpful when people share what actually worked for them instead of just venting (though I totally get the venting too after dealing with this mess!).

I just went through this exact same frustration two weeks ago! After reading through all these responses, I want to add one more option that saved me: if you have the MyBenefitsCalWIN mobile app on your phone, you can actually submit your SAR 7 through there too. Go to "Documents" then "Upload Document" and select "Semi-Annual Report" from the dropdown. The mobile interface is actually cleaner than the website version. You can take photos of each page of your completed form directly through the app instead of having to scan anything. Just make sure the photos are clear and all text is readable before submitting. This was a lifesaver for me since I don't have a printer or scanner at home. The whole process took maybe 10 minutes once I figured out where everything was located in the app.
