If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

This happened to me last month too! The ATM issues are so common on benefit payment days. I found that smaller stores like corner markets and gas stations sometimes have better luck with EBT cash back than the big chain stores when the system is overloaded. Also, if you have a Chase or Bank of America nearby, their in-branch tellers can usually process EBT withdrawals even when their ATMs are down. Just bring your ID and EBT card. Hope everyone gets their money sorted out today!

Thanks for the tip about smaller stores! I never thought about trying gas stations for cash back. I've been dealing with this EBT ATM issue for months now and it's always the same story on the 1st and 15th when benefits load. Really appreciate everyone sharing their workarounds - it's so helpful to know I'm not alone in dealing with this system mess. Going to try a few corner stores near me right now!

Just wanted to add another option that worked for me - I went to CVS and was able to get $20 cash back when I bought some basic groceries with my EBT card. The cashier said they've had several people doing this today because of the ATM issues. Also, if you have a credit union account, some of them will let you do an emergency cash advance against your EBT balance if you explain the situation. My local credit union helped me out last time this happened. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to access our own benefits though! Hope this helps someone.

CVS is a great suggestion! I just tried it at my local CVS and was able to get $30 cash back with a small purchase. The cashier was super understanding and said they've been helping people with this issue all day. It's really frustrating that we have to figure out all these workarounds just to access our benefits, but I'm grateful for everyone sharing what's working. The credit union idea is smart too - I'm going to remember that for next time this happens. Thanks for posting this!

I just checked the CalWORKs website and found this bulletin about the benefit theft issue: https://benefitscal.com/security-tips It says they're seeing a huge spike in theft right after benefits are issued. I'm going to set an alarm to withdraw mine at 12:01am when it hits my account. Thanks everyone for the advice! I really can't afford to lose this money with rent being due.

Good plan! Just be careful using ATMs in the middle of the night - sometimes thieves target people at ATMs during those hours. If you can, use an ATM inside a store that's open 24 hours, or wait until early morning at a bank branch. Also, don't forget that some banks will waive fees if you transfer the money directly to your account instead of withdrawing cash.

This is such an important warning - thank you for sharing! I've been on CalWORKs for about 6 months now and had no idea this was such a big problem. My benefits load tomorrow and I was just planning to use my card throughout the week like normal. After reading all these stories I'm definitely going to withdraw everything first thing in the morning. Quick question - when you transfer to your bank account through the EBT app, is there a fee for that? I don't have a car so getting to ATMs can be challenging with my toddler, but if I can transfer it safely from home that would be amazing. Also, does anyone know if credit unions work the same way as regular banks for the transfers? Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - it's scary how common this is becoming but at least we can look out for each other!

This is exactly why I always try to access my benefits a day or two before I actually need the money when possible. The EBT system seems to have random glitches and holds that can mess up your plans if you're counting on immediate access. I've learned to keep a small emergency stash from previous months just for situations like this. Also, some ATMs work better than others - I've noticed that Bank of America ATMs seem to have fewer issues with EBT cards than the random ones at gas stations. Hope your card works tomorrow and you can get your rent sorted out on time!

Hey is anyone still having trouble withdrawing cash from the ATMs or is it just me only?

0 coins

I haven't had any issues with ATM withdrawals lately, but based on what everyone was discussing earlier in this thread, it sounds like there might be system-wide problems happening. You should definitely call the EBT customer service number on the back of your card to check if there's a hold on your account or any other issues. Also try checking your balance through the EBT app first to make sure your funds are actually there. If you keep having problems, you might want to try a different ATM - some people mentioned that certain bank ATMs work better than others.

This is such an important conversation and I'm really glad to see veterans supporting each other through these complicated benefit interactions. As someone who works with veterans transitioning to civilian life, I see this VA education benefits vs. CalWORKs issue come up frequently. One additional resource I'd suggest is contacting your local Veterans Service Organization (VCO) - organizations like DAV, VFW, or American Legion often have benefit counselors who specifically understand how different veteran benefits interact with state programs. They might know about advocacy efforts to change these policies or have connections with county supervisors who can help escalate cases. Also, if you do end up needing to request a fair hearing, don't go in alone - bring documentation showing exactly how your GI Bill funds are being used for educational expenses versus living expenses. The more detailed your breakdown, the better chance you have of getting a favorable review. Keep fighting for what's right - you've earned these benefits and deserve support while you're improving your situation through education.

This is excellent advice about the Veterans Service Organizations - I hadn't thought about reaching out to them for help navigating these benefit interactions. The point about bringing detailed documentation to a fair hearing is really important too. It's frustrating that we have to fight so hard for benefits we've earned, but having this kind of community support and knowing about resources like VCOs makes it feel less overwhelming. Thank you for taking the time to share this guidance - it's clear you really understand what veterans are going through in these situations.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this - it's incredibly frustrating how the system seems to work against veterans trying to better themselves through education. One thing that might be worth exploring is whether your county has any local veteran-specific programs or hardship assistance that could help bridge the gap while you're in school. Some counties have discretionary funds or partnerships with veteran organizations that aren't widely advertised. Also, have you checked if your school offers any emergency financial assistance programs for student parents? Many colleges have small grant programs specifically for situations like this where students are caught between benefit eligibility gaps. It's not a long-term solution, but it could help with immediate needs like rent while you work through the appeals process. The fact that you're determined to complete your degree for your child shows incredible strength - don't give up, even though the system is making it unnecessarily difficult.

Thank you for mentioning the local county veteran programs - that's something I hadn't considered looking into. I just checked and it looks like my county does have a Veteran Services Office that offers emergency assistance programs. I'm going to reach out to them tomorrow to see what might be available. Your suggestion about checking with my school's emergency financial assistance is also really helpful. I know they have some kind of student emergency fund, but I wasn't sure if my situation would qualify. It's worth asking though, especially since this is creating such an immediate financial crunch. I really appreciate all the support and suggestions from everyone in this thread - it's given me hope and a concrete plan to move forward instead of just feeling stuck and frustrated.

I'm going through something similar right now - lost my retail job 2 weeks ago and just submitted my CalWORKs application yesterday. From what I learned researching this, you definitely don't need a formal termination letter. I brought my last paystub and filled out the unemployment declaration form they gave me. One thing that really helped me was calling 211 - they connected me with a local nonprofit that helps people navigate the application process for free. They even helped me gather all my documents before applying. Might be worth trying if you're feeling overwhelmed with all the paperwork. Also, since you mentioned having only $42 left, definitely ask about emergency aid when you call. Some counties have programs that can help with immediate needs while your regular CalWORKs application is being processed. Don't suffer in silence - there are people who want to help you through this!

0 coins

Thank you so much for mentioning 211! I had no idea that service existed. I'm definitely going to call them today - having someone help me navigate all this paperwork sounds like exactly what I need right now. And I'll definitely ask about emergency aid when I finally get through to someone at the county office. It's reassuring to hear from someone going through the same thing. Hope your application goes smoothly!

I work as a CalWORKs eligibility technician and wanted to clarify a few things for you. You absolutely do NOT need a formal termination letter - your last pay stub plus a signed statement declaring unemployment is sufficient verification. If your former employer is uncooperative about providing documentation, we have other ways to verify job separation. A few important things to expedite your case: 1. Apply for expedited processing immediately - with only $42 and rent due in 3 weeks, you likely qualify for emergency CalWORKs 2. Bring ALL required documents to your interview: ID, Social Security cards for you and your child, birth certificate for your child, rent receipts/lease, bank statements, and that last pay stub 3. Don't wait for your interview to be scheduled - call first thing Monday morning at 8am when phone lines open Since you have a 4-year-old, your maximum aid will be higher, and yes, you'll need to cooperate with child support services. The whole process can take up to 30 days, but emergency aid can be issued within 3 business days if you qualify. Hang in there - you're doing the right thing by applying now rather than waiting until you're completely out of money.

This is incredibly helpful information from someone who actually works in the system! Thank you for taking the time to explain the expedited process. I'm definitely calling first thing Monday at 8am - fingers crossed I can get through. Just to confirm, when you say "emergency CalWORKs" can be issued in 3 business days, does that mean actual cash benefits or just approval? And do I need to specifically use the words "expedited processing" when I call, or will they know to offer it based on my situation? Really appreciate the insider knowledge!
