CalWORKs Cash Aid payment on Groundhog Day 2025 - will holiday affect deposit date?
Does anyone know about the February payment schedule for CalWORKs Cash Aid? My normal payment date is the 2nd, which falls on Groundhog Day this year. Since it's some kind of holiday (not sure if it's official??), will my benefits come early on the 1st or get delayed until the 3rd? I've got rent due on the 3rd and I'm trying to figure out if I need to talk to my landlord. My EBT card usually gets loaded right on time but holidays sometimes mess everything up. Thanks for any help!

•Oh wow really?? I always thought it was a holiday since they make such a big deal about it on TV. That's embarrassing lol. So I guess my payment should come normally on the 2nd then?

Groundhog Day (February 2nd) is not an official government holiday, so your CalWORKs payment should be deposited according to the regular schedule. The only holidays that affect CalWORKs deposit dates are federal/bank holidays like New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. When your regular deposit date falls on a weekend or an official holiday, payments typically come the business day BEFORE (not after). But since Groundhog Day isn't an official holiday, your February 2nd payment should arrive as normal if it's a weekday. If February 2nd falls on a weekend in 2025, then you'd receive it on the Friday before.

•Thank you so much for explaining! I checked and Feb 2 2025 is actually a Sunday, so does that mean I'll get it on Friday Jan 31st then? That would be amazing for paying rent on time.

When I was on cash aid last year, my payment date was always the 3rd, but whenever it fell on a weekend they'd deposit it the Friday before. So if Feb 2nd is a Sunday in 2025, you should get your money on Friday January 31st. But sometimes the system glitches - I've had it delayed by a day before with no explanation! Always stressful when rent is due!

•Same thing happened to me but my worker told me it was because my SAR7 was processed late even though I turned it in on time!! The county makes so many mistakes it's ridiculous.

Just double-checked the 2025 calendar, and yes, February 2nd is a Sunday. So your CalWORKs payment should be deposited on Friday, January 31st, 2025. This is standard procedure for all EBT cash benefits when the regular issuance date falls on a weekend. If you want to confirm this information for your specific case, you can call your county CalWORKs office. However, wait times can be extremely long this time of year with annual redeterminations happening.

•I used to spend HOURS trying to get through to my worker about payment issues. Recently found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls the CalWORKs office for you and then calls you back when a real person answers. Saved me from waiting on hold for 3+ hours last month when my cash aid was delayed. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Totally worth checking out if you ever need to get through quickly!

It makes me so mad how the system keeps us all stressed about dates!! Why can't they just deposit everyone's CalWORKs on the SAME DAY instead of spreading it out? My friend gets hers on the 1st, I get mine on the 10th, you get yours on the 2nd - it's like they WANT us confused!! And then they expect us to budget perfectly when they sometimes deposit early and sometimes late. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE 😡😡😡

•they stagger the dates to prevent system overload... imagine if 1.5 million CalWORKs payments all processed at the same exact minute. the whole system would crash every month

Thanks everyone for the helpful answers! Sounds like I'll get my payment on Friday, January 31st since Feb 2nd is a Sunday in 2025. That's actually perfect timing for my rent due on the 3rd. I'm going to make a note in my calendar so I remember to check my balance that morning. Really appreciate all the explanations!

Just a friendly reminder to anyone reading - if you haven't done so already, sign up for text or email alerts about your EBT card balance/deposits through the EBT website or app! That way you don't have to keep checking manually. It's saved me so many times when there were unexpected deposit date changes.

•That's a great idea! I didn't even know those alerts existed. Going to set that up today. Thanks for the tip!

Another tip that might help - if you have a smartphone, you can download the ebtEDGE mobile app to check your balance and transaction history instantly. It's way faster than calling the customer service number or going to an ATM. Plus you can set up push notifications for deposits so you'll know the exact moment your CalWORKs payment hits your account. Really helpful for planning around rent due dates like yours!
