Anyone with CalWORKs direct deposit get their Cash Aid early this month?
Just wondering if anyone with direct deposit for CalWORKs got their payment earlier than usual this month? I usually get mine on the 1st, but I'm checking my account like crazy because my rent is due and I heard some people sometimes get their Cash Aid a day or two early with direct deposit. This is only my 3rd month on CalWORKs so still figuring out how everything works. Anyone know if there's a specific time of day deposits typically hit your account?

•Which bank do you use? I'm with Wells Fargo and this is the first month I switched to direct deposit so I'm not sure if they're good with processing it early.

CalWORKs direct deposit timing depends on both when the county releases payments and how your bank processes them. Some important things to know: 1) The payment date doesn't change month to month - if you're supposed to get it on the 1st, the county releases it on the 1st 2) However, some banks will process pending deposits early, especially if the actual payment date falls on a weekend or holiday 3) Credit unions often process faster than big banks 4) First-time direct deposits sometimes take one extra day as the system verifies your account If this is only your 3rd month and first time with direct deposit, don't panic if the timing isn't what you expected. The first direct deposit can sometimes take an extra day to process as the system verifies your account information.

I've been on CalWORKs for 2 years now and I noticed the deposit time totally depends on who you bank with. My sister and I both get CalWORKs, but she gets her Cash Aid a full day before me every single month because she uses a credit union and I use Chase. Also, if this is your first direct deposit, sometimes the county puts a "pre-note" on your account which is basically a test run to make sure your banking info is correct. That can delay things by a day. If you're worried about rent, you might want to call your caseworker to confirm everything's on track. I used Claimyr.com to get through to my worker when I had a similar issue - saved me hours of waiting on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE

•Thanks for mentioning this could be a "pre-note" thing! That might explain it. I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service if my deposit doesn't show up by tomorrow. My landlord isn't the most understanding person when it comes to late rent.

DIRECT DEPOSIT IS ALWAYS A MESS!! I switched back to the EBT card after trying direct deposit for 4 months. Every month was different!!! The county told me one date but my bank did whatever they wanted. One month it was 2 days early, next month it was ON TIME, then next month it was LATE!!! I need to know EXACTLY when my money comes so I can pay my bills on time. Maybe your bank is better than mine was but dont be surprised if its not consistent.

•Not all banks are that inconsistent though. I've had direct deposit for over a year with no problems at all. My credit union consistently processes my CalWORKs payment a day early, which has been super helpful. The EBT card was actually more problematic for me because the ATMs near me always had withdrawal limits that were too low for my rent payment.

My sister just had this issue last month with CalWORKs deposits. Turns out she didn't complete her SAR7 correctly and they were holding her payment. Might want to check if you submitted all your paperwork on time. Also, did you report any income changes? That can delay things too.

•I did my SAR7 last month and everything was approved. Haven't had any income changes either. My worker said everything was all set for my case. It's probably just the first direct deposit taking longer like others mentioned. Just making me nervous because rent is due!

Just to add some additional information - if you're concerned about your Cash Aid not arriving when expected, it's also good to check your BenefitsCal account or MyBenefits CalWIN portal (depending on your county). You can see if the payment has been issued but just hasn't hit your bank yet. And if you're consistently having issues with timing and your rent due date, you can request a payment issuance date change from your worker in some counties. It's not guaranteed they'll approve it, but worth asking if the current schedule is causing hardship with your rent payments.

•I didn't know I could request a different payment date! That would be so helpful since my rent is due on the 1st. I'll definitely ask about that at my next appointment. Thanks for the tip!

Did your deposit ever show up? Was curious if it worked out for you or if you ended up having to contact your worker.

•Yes! It finally showed up at like 3am on the 1st. Looks like Wells Fargo doesn't process early like some other banks. At least now I know for next month. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear your deposit finally came through! Wells Fargo is notorious for not processing early - they're very strict about waiting until the actual payment date. For future reference, if you ever need to switch banks for better deposit timing, some good options that consistently process CalWORKs early are Golden 1 Credit Union (like Giovanni mentioned), Navy Federal if you qualify, and most local credit unions. Also, since you mentioned this is only your 3rd month, you might want to set up account alerts through your Wells Fargo app so you get notified the moment deposits hit. That way you won't have to keep checking manually every month. Welcome to the CalWORKs community - sounds like you're getting the hang of how everything works!

•Thanks for the welcome and all the helpful info! I'll definitely look into setting up those account alerts - that's a great idea. I'm actually considering switching to a credit union after reading everyone's experiences here. It sounds like Golden 1 might be worth checking out since so many people mentioned they process early. This community has been super helpful for navigating all this CalWORKs stuff as a newbie!

I've been on CalWORKs for about 6 months now and switched from EBT card to direct deposit after my 2nd month - best decision I made! Like others mentioned, it really does depend on your bank. I use a local credit union (SAFE Credit Union) and consistently get my payment around 10pm the night before it's due. One thing I wish someone had told me when I was new - if you're stressed about timing with rent, talk to your landlord about the situation. A lot of landlords are actually understanding about government benefit timing, especially if you communicate upfront. Mine lets me pay on the 2nd now instead of the 1st, which takes all the pressure off. Also, Pro tip: download your bank's mobile app if you haven't already and turn on push notifications for deposits. Game changer for peace of mind!

•That's really good advice about talking to landlords! I was so worried about seeming unreliable, but you're right that being upfront about the situation is probably better than stressing every month. I might ask my landlord if I can switch my due date to the 3rd just to give myself that buffer. The mobile app notifications tip is great too - I'll set that up today. Thanks for sharing your experience!
