When do CalWORKs deposits hit my EBT card each month?
I just got approved for CalWORKs cash aid last month and received my first payment, but I'm confused about when my monthly benefits are supposed to be deposited going forward. The worker explained everything so fast and I was nervous so I forgot to ask. Does CalWORKs get deposited on the same day each month or does it vary? And how do I find out what day MY specific payment drops? I need to plan for rent and I'm cutting it really close this month. Thanks for any help!

CalWORKs cash aid gets deposited to ur EBT card based on the last digit of your case number. Like mine ends with 5 so i get mine on the 5th. Check ur approval letter or benefit award notice it shud say somewhere on there.

•Thank you! I'll check my approval paperwork tonight. Do you know if it's always exactly on that date, or could it be a day or two off sometimes?

The issuance date for CalWORKs Cash Aid depends on the last digit of your case number, and it's consistent each month unless it falls on a weekend or holiday. Here's the schedule: Last digit 1 = 1st day of month Last digit 2 = 2nd day of month And so on through... Last digit 0 = 10th day of month If your payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the funds will be available the previous business day. This is different from CalFresh (food stamps) which has a different schedule based on the first 3 letters of your last name. You can verify your specific date by: 1. Checking your approval notice 2. Looking at your BenefitsCal account calendar 3. Calling your county worker 4. Checking past months' deposit patterns Hope this helps!

I had the same issue and spent hours trying to get anyone on the phone at my county office. It was beyond frustrating! Finally used Claimyr.com to reach someone and got my answer in like 10 minutes. The service connected me straight to a worker who pulled up my case and confirmed my payment date. Saved me so much headache! They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE - honestly worth it just to avoid the constant busy signals and disconnects.

•That's good to know! I definitely don't want to spend all day trying to get through if I can't find my paperwork. The phone system is so frustrating.

Check ur bank account from last month!! Thats what I did. Looked at when my payment came in last time and wrote it on my calendar. Thats ur day every month unless it falls on weekend then they do it Friday.

•This isn't quite right. CalWORKs follows the case number pattern, not a set calendar day like the 15th or 20th each month. The payment date is based on the last digit of your case number (1-0). Always good to verify the correct date with your county office rather than just assuming it'll be the same day as last month, especially when you're newly approved.

THE COUNTY NEVER EXPLAINS ANYTHING PROPERLY!!!!!! This is my biggest complaint with CalWORKs. They rush through everything during the interview and expect you to remember it all. Then when you call with questions they put you on hold FOREVER or just disconnect you. They should give everyone a simple PAPER CALENDAR with their deposit dates clearly marked!!! Is that so hard??? Sorry for the rant but this system is so frustrating sometimes.

•Honestly, you're so right. I felt like I was being rushed through the whole approval process. And I was too embarrassed to ask for clarification because the worker seemed annoyed already. A calendar would be so helpful!

Also, just to clarify something important - your CalWORKs Cash Aid and CalFresh (food stamps) benefits follow DIFFERENT issuance schedules. So don't assume they'll be deposited on the same day. Your Cash Aid follows the case number pattern I mentioned above, while CalFresh uses the first 3 letters of your last name to determine the date (between the 1st and 10th of the month). This confuses a lot of people who are new to receiving benefits. If you're receiving both programs, you'll have two separate deposit dates each month.

Thank you all so much for the helpful responses! I found my approval notice and my case number ends in 7, so I should get my deposit on the 7th of each month (or the Friday before if it falls on a weekend). I also downloaded the ConnectEBT app which is super helpful for tracking everything. This community is amazing - the county should really explain these things better!

•Glad you got it sorted out! One final tip: mark your deposit dates on your calendar for the next few months so you can plan your bill payments accordingly. And remember that if your income changes significantly (goes above the Income Reporting Threshold on your approval notice), you need to report it within 10 days even if it's not time for your SAR7 report yet. Good luck!

Welcome to the CalWORKs community! Just wanted to add that if you're ever having trouble reaching your county office by phone, you can also try visiting in person during their walk-in hours - sometimes that's faster than waiting on hold. Also, keep all your benefit notices in a safe place because they have important dates and case info you'll need to reference. The learning curve is steep when you're new to the system, but you'll get the hang of it. Don't hesitate to ask questions here - we've all been where you are!

•This is such great advice! I'm still pretty new to navigating all of this and it's reassuring to know that everyone has been through the same confusion. I'll definitely keep my paperwork organized better - I almost panicked when I couldn't find my approval notice at first. And good point about the walk-in hours, I hadn't thought of that option. Thanks for the welcoming words, this community really does feel supportive!

Just wanted to share another tip that helped me when I was new to CalWORKs - if you're having trouble remembering all the important dates and deadlines, create a simple note in your phone with your key info: your deposit date (7th for you!), your SAR7 due date, your county office phone number, and your case number. That way you always have it handy when you need to call or check something. Also, the BenefitsCal website has a message center where you can sometimes get answers without having to call - it's under the "Contact Us" section. Hope this helps and congrats on getting approved!

•That's such a smart idea about keeping all the key info in your phone! I'm definitely going to do that. I didn't know about the message center on BenefitsCal either - that could save so much time instead of being on hold forever. Thanks for sharing these tips, it's really helpful to get advice from people who've been through this process already!

One thing that really helped me when I first started getting CalWORKs was setting up a simple budget tracker on my phone. Since you know your deposit will hit on the 7th each month, you can plan backwards from there - like if rent is due on the 1st, you'll have about a week cushion each month which is actually pretty good! Also, don't be afraid to ask your worker to slow down during appointments - you have the right to understand what they're telling you. I used to bring a notebook and pen to write things down because I'd get nervous and forget everything too. The whole system can feel overwhelming at first but once you get into the rhythm of it, it becomes much more manageable. Good luck with everything!
