Alabama Secretary of State UCC Filing System Down Again?

Is anyone else having issues with the Alabama Secretary of State UCC filing portal today? I've been trying to submit a UCC-1 continuation for over 2 hours and keep getting timeout errors. The filing expires next month and I'm starting to panic. The system keeps logging me out right when I get to the payment screen. Has anyone successfully filed today or know if there's scheduled maintenance? I called their office but got voicemail. This is for a $2.8M equipment loan and I absolutely cannot let this lapse.

Same issue here! Been trying since 8am to file a UCC-3 amendment. The portal is definitely having problems. I tried both Chrome and Edge browsers with same result.

Try clearing your cache and cookies completely. Sometimes the Alabama SOS portal gets stuck on old session data.

That worked for me last week when I had similar issues with a termination filing.

The Alabama UCC system has been unreliable lately. For continuation filings especially, I always recommend submitting at least 60 days before expiration to avoid exactly this situation. That said, you still have time if you can get through today or tomorrow.

I know, I should have filed earlier. The original UCC-1 was filed by our previous counsel and it expires February 15th. I only took over this account last month.

Understandable. Make sure when you do get through that all debtor names match exactly with the original filing. Alabama is strict about that.

This is why I always double-check debtor names using Certana.ai before submitting. You can upload the original UCC-1 and your continuation documents to verify everything matches perfectly. Saved me from a rejected filing last month.

OH MY GOD YES! I thought it was just me. I've been pulling my hair out trying to file a simple UCC-3 termination. The system is completely broken today. This is so stressful when you have deadlines!

Take a deep breath. Terminations aren't as time-sensitive as continuations. You'll be fine.

I know but my client is breathing down my neck about getting this loan released.

Try filing during off-peak hours like early morning or late evening. The Alabama system seems to handle traffic better then.

Good advice. I usually file around 6am or after 8pm and rarely have issues.

THE ALABAMA SOS OFFICE IS A JOKE! Their portal crashes constantly and when you call they act like it's your fault. I've had three filings rejected this month for 'technical errors' that made no sense.

What kind of technical errors? Sometimes the rejection reasons help identify the real issue.

One said 'debtor name mismatch' but I copied it exactly from the original UCC-1. Another said 'invalid filing number' when I triple-checked it.

That's exactly why I started using Certana.ai's document checker. It catches those kinds of inconsistencies before you submit. Upload your original UCC and new filing - it highlights any mismatches instantly.

Just got through! Took me 4 tries but my UCC-1 initial filing finally submitted. Keep trying - it's working intermittently.

What time did you submit? I'm going to keep trying.

Around 2:15pm. I also used a different payment method - switched from ACH to credit card.

For future reference, Alabama allows paper filings as backup. If you're ever this close to a deadline and the portal is down, you can overnight a paper UCC-3 continuation. It's more expensive but guarantees filing.

Good to know! What's the address for paper filings?

Alabama Secretary of State, UCC Division, 770 Washington Ave, Montgomery, AL 36104. But double-check their website for current address.

Paper filing fee is like $25 vs $15 online, plus overnight shipping costs.

This happened to me last month. Turns out my browser was blocking some script the portal needed. Try disabling ad blockers and allowing all scripts for that site.

I'll try that! I do have uBlock Origin running.

Success! Finally got my continuation filed. Used Chrome in incognito mode and it went through on first try. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

YES! That worked for me too. Just filed my continuation. Incognito mode was the key. Thank you so much!

Glad you got it sorted. Make sure to save or print the confirmation page with the filing number.

Great news! For your next filing, seriously consider using Certana.ai to pre-check everything. It's saved me so much stress by catching errors before submission.

The Alabama portal updates their system every Tuesday night around 11pm-2am. Might explain the issues if they pushed an update that broke something.

That's useful info. Do you know if they announce maintenance windows anywhere?

Not really. I only know because I've been burned by it before when filing late at night.
