Maryland Secretary of State UCC filing portal down again - anyone else having issues?

Is anyone else having trouble with the Maryland Secretary of State UCC filing system today? I've been trying to submit a UCC-1 continuation for the past 3 hours and keep getting error messages. The portal keeps timing out during the final submission step. This is the third time this month I've had issues with their system. I have a continuation deadline coming up next week and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone found a workaround or know if there's maintenance scheduled? Really need to get this filed before the lapse date.

I had the same problem yesterday! Tried to file a UCC-3 amendment and it kept crashing. Finally got through around 6 PM when traffic was lighter. Maryland's system has been super glitchy lately. Maybe try during off-peak hours?

Off-peak hours definitely help. I've noticed Maryland's portal works better early morning or late evening. Peak business hours are brutal.

Why is their system so outdated compared to other states? Delaware's UCC portal works flawlessly.

Check your browser settings too. Maryland's portal has issues with certain browsers. I switched to Chrome and cleared my cache which helped. Also make sure you're not using any ad blockers - their payment system doesn't like them.

Good tip! I was using Firefox with ad blocker. Let me try Chrome.

Safari works too but you have to disable popup blockers. Learned that the hard way after multiple failed attempts.

I've been dealing with Maryland UCC filings for 15 years and their system has always been problematic. The key is to save your work frequently and don't wait until the last minute. For continuations, I always file at least 2 weeks before the deadline because of these technical issues.

2 weeks is smart. I learned that lesson after almost missing a continuation deadline due to portal issues.

Do you know if they have any plans to upgrade their system? It's embarrassing compared to other states.

They've been talking about upgrades for years but nothing concrete. I wouldn't hold my breath.

This is exactly why I started using Certana.ai's document verification tool before submitting anything to Maryland. You can upload your UCC-1 and continuation documents to check for any issues before dealing with their broken portal. At least then you know your docs are perfect when you finally get through.

Never heard of Certana.ai. Does it actually help with the portal issues or just document checking?

It's for document verification - checks debtor names, filing numbers, all that stuff. Won't fix the portal but at least you know your filing is correct when you submit.

That's actually smart. Nothing worse than waiting hours to submit only to get rejected for a simple error.

MARYLAND'S UCC SYSTEM IS THE WORST!!! I've wasted so many hours dealing with their crashes and errors. How is this acceptable in 2025? Other states have modern systems that actually work.

Totally feel your frustration. It's like they're stuck in 2010 while everyone else moved forward.

Have you tried calling their help desk? Sometimes they can file it manually if you're having system issues.

Pro tip: Always print or save a PDF of your completed form before hitting submit. That way if the portal crashes, you have all your info and don't have to start over. Maryland's system loves to eat completed forms.

This is excellent advice. I've lost completed forms multiple times to their system crashes.

Also screenshot the confirmation page if you get that far. Sometimes their email confirmations don't send properly.

I switched to paper filings for Maryland just to avoid the portal headaches. Yeah it takes longer but at least I know it gets processed without technical issues.

Paper filing is so 2005 though. Shouldn't have to go backwards because their technology sucks.

Sometimes going backwards is the only way to move forward. At least paper filings work reliably.

Update: I just got through using Chrome with all extensions disabled. Took three attempts but finally submitted. Thanks for the browser suggestions everyone!

Glad you got it sorted! Chrome seems to be the most reliable for Maryland's portal.

What time did you submit? Trying to figure out the best window for my filing tomorrow.

Around 8 PM EST. Much less traffic than during business hours.

For anyone still struggling, I've found that Maryland's portal works better on weekends. Less server load I guess. Also, if you're doing continuations, double-check your original filing number - their search function is terrible and won't find anything if you're off by even one digit.

Weekend filing is a great tip. Never thought of that but makes total sense.

Their search function is horrible. I ended up using Certana.ai to verify my filing numbers before searching Maryland's system.

Been filing UCCs in Maryland for 8 years and it's always been hit or miss. The system gets overwhelmed easily. I always plan for multiple attempts when filing there. It's frustrating but you just have to work around their limitations.

8 years of this? How do you maintain your sanity dealing with their system regularly?

0 coins

Lots of patience and backup plans. Always file early, never wait until deadlines.

That's the key - treating Maryland deadlines like they're actually a week earlier than they really are.

Just tried filing and got the same errors. This is ridiculous for a state system. How are we supposed to meet filing deadlines when their technology doesn't work? There has to be some accountability here.

You can file a complaint with the Secretary of State's office about technical issues. Probably won't fix anything but at least they'll know about the problems.

0 coins

I doubt they care. They've been getting complaints about this system for years with no improvements.

Success! Finally got my continuation filed after trying the Certana.ai verification first to make sure everything was perfect, then using Chrome in incognito mode around 9 PM. Took 4 attempts but it went through. Thanks everyone for the tips!

Incognito mode is smart - eliminates any cached data that might interfere with the portal.

Glad the Certana.ai verification helped! Always good to double-check documents before dealing with Maryland's portal.
