FAFSA signature page keeps freezing - anyone else can't submit?
Hi everyone! New to this forum but desperate for help. I've been trying to complete my FAFSA for the 2025-2026 year for TWO WEEKS now and keep getting stuck at the signature page. The system just freezes every time I try to click the 'sign & submit' button. I've tried different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even Edge!), cleared my cache, restarted my computer... nothing works. The page either hangs forever with the spinning circle or crashes completely. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround? I'm getting really worried about missing deadlines for my school's financial aid packages. Any advice would be super appreciated!

I had this exact problem last week! The signature page is super glitchy this year. What worked for me was trying at a completely different time of day. I kept trying in the evenings (around 8-10pm) and it always crashed. Then I tried at 6am one morning and it went through immediately. I think their servers get overloaded during peak hours.

•Thanks for the tip! I've only been trying in the evenings after work, so that might be the issue. I'll set my alarm for tomorrow morning and give it a shot. Fingers crossed!!

•I'll try that too! At this point I'm willing to try anything. The waiting is driving me crazy!

This is a very common issue with the FAFSA signature page, especially during high-volume periods. Before you try anything else, make sure: 1. You've created an FSA ID for both yourself and your parent/contributor (if you're a dependent student) 2. The SSN, DOB, and name on your FSA ID exactly match what's on your Social Security card 3. Your browser's JavaScript is enabled and up-to-date 4. You're not using any ad-blockers or VPNs that might interfere If all of that checks out, try using the mobile app instead of the website. Many students have reported success with the app when the website is giving them trouble. Also worth noting that the signature page issues often get resolved within 24-48 hours when StudentAid.gov does their regular system maintenance.

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I do have my FSA ID (and my mom has hers too since I'm still a dependent). I'll double-check all the other things you mentioned. I didn't even think about trying the mobile app - downloading it now!

i've been trying to sign my fafsa for THREE MONTHS!!! this whole system is such garbage. every year they "improve" it and it gets WORSE. i literally had to drive to my financial aid office at school and they couldn't even help because "it's a federal system issue" 🙄 thanks for nothing!

honestly im about to just give up on financial aid altogether. my cousin didnt even get her SAI score until a MONTH after submitting anyway, and by then all the good scholarships were gone. the whole system is designed to make us fail.

•I understand your frustration, but please don't give up! The SAI calculation is taking longer this year because of the FAFSA Simplification Act changes, but your school can't finalize your aid package without it. Missing out on filing could cost you thousands in Pell Grants and institutional aid. Keep trying!

If you've been experiencing this issue persistently, it's definitely time to contact Federal Student Aid directly. Unfortunately, their phone lines are notoriously busy this time of year - I tried calling them about a similar issue and spent 3+ hours on hold before getting disconnected. I recently discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to a FAFSA agent within 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent I spoke with was able to manually note my account and guide me through an alternative submission process when I was having signature page issues. Definitely worth considering if you've tried everything else!

•Oh wow, I've never heard of this service before! I actually tried calling yesterday and gave up after being on hold for an hour. I'll check out that link - at this point I just need to get this resolved before I miss my school's priority deadline. Thank you!

This happens every year around this time tbh. I work in our campus financial aid office (student worker) and we get TONS of students coming in with this exact problem. Our advisors usually tell them to: 1. Try really early morning (5-7am) or late night (after midnight) 2. Check if your name has special characters or hyphens (the system hates these) 3. Try incognito mode with ALL extensions disabled 4. If nothing else works, you can request a paper signature page as a last resort Hope that helps!

•Thank you! I do have a hyphen in my last name, I wonder if that's contributing to the problem? And I had no idea you could request a paper signature page - that might be my backup plan if the early morning attempt doesn't work.

•The hyphen could definitely be part of the issue! The FAFSA system sometimes has trouble with non-standard name characters. For the paper signature page, you'll need to call FSA directly to request it - it's not advertised on the site but it's an option they can provide if technical issues prevent electronic submission.

•This is a bit off-topic from the signature page issue, but processing times for SAI calculations vary widely right now. The Department of Education stated that most applicants should receive their SAI within 3-5 business days, but due to the new FAFSA changes, some are taking 2-3 weeks. If it's been more than 3 weeks, I would definitely contact FSA directly.

UPDATE: It worked!! I followed the advice about trying early morning (set my alarm for 5:30am 😴) and the signature page loaded perfectly with no freezing. Submitted successfully and got my confirmation email! Thank you all so much for your help - especially the tip about trying during off-peak hours. Now fingers crossed I get my SAI calculation quickly!

•So glad it worked for you! The early morning trick seems to be the most reliable solution this year. Hope your SAI comes through quickly!

•Congratulations! For anyone else reading this thread with the same issue, the early morning approach has about an 80% success rate based on what I've seen. The FAFSA system undergoes maintenance between 2-4am ET on Sundays, so Monday mornings are often the most reliable time to try submitting.
