FAFSA signature page won't let me sign - stuck on final step
So frustrated right now. I've spent 3 hours filling out my entire FAFSA application for 2025-2026, answered all the questions, got through all the sections, and now I'm at the very end where I need to sign, and NOTHING HAPPENS when I click the signature button! The page just refreshes and I'm still stuck on the signature page. I've tried different browsers (Chrome and Firefox), cleared my cache, even restarted my computer. I'm worried if I close it, I'll lose everything I entered. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to get past this final step without starting over? My priority deadline is next week!

I had the exact same problem last week! The signature page kept freezing on me too. Try using Microsoft Edge browser instead - for some weird reason it worked for me when Chrome and Firefox failed. Also, make sure you're using the actual FSA ID username and password that YOU created, not your parent's. Some people mix those up at the signature stage.

•Thanks, I'll try Edge right now. I'm definitely using my own FSA ID (I triple-checked). Really hope this works!

sometimes the fsa website timeouts if you take too long between sections. you might need to start over unfortunately happened to me twice this month

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Seriously why can't they make a system that actually works? I spent so much time gathering all my tax info and entering everything correctly.

This is a known issue with the FAFSA signature page, especially during high traffic periods. Before you restart, try these steps: 1. Make sure you've disabled all browser extensions/add-ons 2. Check that your pop-up blocker isn't preventing the signature window 3. Try using a private/incognito browsing window 4. Ensure your browser is updated to the latest version 5. If you're on campus wifi or public network, try a different connection The signature process requires a secure connection and javascript execution that can be affected by network settings. If none of these work, you can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243, but expect very long wait times this time of year.

•Thank you for the detailed suggestions! I tried incognito mode and it's still not working. I'll try the other steps and report back.

•I called that number last week and was on hold for TWO HOURS before getting disconnected. Then tried again and gave up after 90 minutes. The system is completely broken this year!!

After struggling with the same signature issue, I found a solution that worked for me. I used Claimyr to get through to an actual FSA agent who helped me troubleshoot. They have this service at claimyr.com where they hold your place in line and call you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of hold time! They had a video showing how it works too: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent told me there was a bug with how certain browser security settings interact with the signature page. The fix ended up being surprising - I had to clear cookies for JUST the studentaid.gov domain, not all cookies. Then log in again from scratch (don't use a saved link in your history). Worked immediately after that.

•Thank you SO MUCH! I just watched the video and I'm going to try Claimyr right now. Honestly anything is better than losing all my application data or waiting on hold forever. I'll try the cookie-clearing trick too while I wait.

•How long did it take for them to connect you to an agent? I'm considering trying this service too since my SAI calculation seems wrong.

Y'all are overthinking this. Just wait till midnight when the website traffic is lower and try again. Works every time for me. The FAFSA website can't handle the volume during daytime hours lol

•While lower traffic times can help with general slowness, this signature page issue is actually a specific technical problem with how the authentication system works. It's not just about traffic. But you're right that trying during off-peak hours can help with other FAFSA issues!

UPDATE: IT WORKED!! I used that Claimyr service and got connected to an agent in about 45 minutes (way better than being on hold forever). The agent had me clear site-specific cookies for studentaid.gov and use a private browsing window in Edge. Then I had to log in with my FSA ID again, navigate to my saved application, and the signature page loaded properly this time! Something about the way my browser was handling the security tokens was messing it up. My application is officially SUBMITTED! Thank you all for the help - especially the specific browser cookie tip. What a relief!

•Great to hear! For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, this highlights the importance of browser-specific cookies and cache when dealing with the secure portions of the FAFSA website. The multi-factor authentication system they use is particularly sensitive to cached security tokens.

I'm having the EXACT same problem right now but with the PARENT signature part. My dad keeps trying to sign but nothing happens when he clicks. Has anyone had this specific issue with the parent signature portion? Is it the same fix?

•Yes, my mom had the same issue! The parent signature uses the same system. Have your dad try the steps that worked for me (clear cookies specifically for studentaid.gov and use Edge in private mode). Also make sure he's using HIS FSA ID, not yours.

•Thanks! I'll have him try that tonight. He's not very tech-savvy so I might need to do it for him.

Just wanted to add another potential solution for anyone still struggling with this - I work at my college's financial aid office and we've been seeing this signature page issue a LOT this year. One thing that often helps is making sure you're not using any VPN services when trying to sign. The FSA system flags VPN traffic as potentially suspicious and can block the signature process. Also, if you're using a work or school computer, sometimes the institutional firewalls interfere with the secure connection needed for signing. Try using your personal device on your home network if possible. The good news is that your application data IS being saved even when the signature fails, so you won't lose your progress!
