FAFSA parent form freezing at signature page - can't submit
I've been trying to help my daughter with her FAFSA application for TWO DAYS and I'm about to lose my mind! Every time I get to the parent signature page, the system freezes or just shows a spinning wheel, then nothing happens when I click 'SIGN & SUBMIT.' The page doesn't advance and there's no error message. I've tried different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even Microsoft Edge!), cleared cookies, and restarted my computer multiple times. My daughter's deadline for priority consideration at her dream school is next week, and I'm panicking. Has anyone else experienced this signature page glitch? Any suggestions?

Did you ever get it to work? I'm getting desperate here.

This is a known issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA parent contribution portal. There are a few workarounds I've found successful:\n\n1. Try using a private/incognito browsing window\n2. Make sure your FSA ID username and password are 100% correct\n3. Try during off-peak hours (very early morning or late night)\n4. Double-check that all required fields in previous sections show a green checkmark\n5. Verify your email and phone are properly validated in your FSA ID account\n\nIf none of these work, you might need to contact FSA directly. The signature page glitch seems particularly common for parents with certain types of income reporting scenarios.

Thank you! I'll try incognito mode tonight. Do you know if there's any way to see if there's a specific field that's causing the problem? I did report some investment income, maybe that's triggering something?

Investment income shouldn't be the issue. More likely it's an FSA ID verification problem. Double-check that your FSA ID shows as

After dealing with ENDLESS FAFSA glitches this year I've come to the conclusion that the entire system is DELIBERATELY designed to be difficult!! They make it impossible to get help then wonder why completion rates are down 57%!!! The govt spends MILLIONS on this system and basic functions like SIGNING don't even work?? I wasted TWO WEEKS of my life trying to submit my twins' forms. Absolute insanity.

While the new FAFSA system has had some significant technical challenges this application cycle, they're not intentionally creating barriers. The completion rate issues are concerning, but the Department of Education has been releasing regular updates and fixes. For signature page specific issues, verifying that both the student and parent have completed all verification steps for their respective FSA IDs is critical - this is the most common failure point.

Trust me, I've verified EVERYTHING multiple times. FSA IDs, emails, phone numbers, you name it. And still random errors. My neighbor works at a college fin aid office and even SHE couldn't figure out what was wrong with our application. If that's not deliberate gatekeeping I don't know what is!!

After spending HOURS trying to reach someone at Federal Student Aid for this exact same problem, I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to a live agent in about 12 minutes. The agent was able to check my account and found that my parent FSA ID had a verification flag that was causing the signature issue. They fixed it right there and I was able to complete the form immediately after. I was super skeptical at first but their video demo convinced me: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ\n\nTheir site is claimyr.com if you're desperate. Definitely worth it to avoid more wasted days of frustration.

Thank you! If my attempts tonight don't work, I'll definitely check this out. At this point I'd do anything to get this submitted before my daughter's priority deadline.

It worked for me! I also tried calling directly multiple times and either got disconnected or was on hold forever. With Claimyr I actually got through to someone who could help. The agent explained that signature page issues are usually caused by account verification problems that only they can see on their end.

Have u tried creating a brand new FSA ID acct? My husbands ID had some weird issue and we couldn't figure it out. Made him a completly new one and it worked fine after that. The new system is super glitchy with parent accounts for some reason.

I'm worried about creating a new FSA ID because I've heard it can take 1-3 days for the new one to be verified with Social Security. My daughter's priority deadline is in 6 days so I don't know if I have time for that. But if nothing else works I might have to try it.

Financial aid advisor here. This signature issue is affecting many families with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. For the most reliable fix:\n\n1. Log out of everything completely\n2. Clear browser cache and cookies\n3. Wait at least 30 minutes (the system needs time to reset sessions)\n4. Log in fresh to studentaid.gov (not through any school portal)\n5. Navigate directly to the incomplete FAFSA\n6. If prompted, re-verify your FSA ID by text or email\n7. Try signature again\n\nIf this still fails, there may be a data mismatch between your FSA ID and the information on your FAFSA. The most efficient solution is speaking directly with a Federal Student Aid agent who can view both sides of your account to identify the specific mismatch.

Thank you for these detailed steps! I'm going to try this exact process tonight. If that doesn't work, I'll try to reach someone at Federal Student Aid directly.

Glad to help! One additional tip: if you're entering any contribution information from retirement accounts, triple check that you've properly indicated whether those are pre-tax or post-tax contributions in the correct fields. This is a common source of data validation errors that can silently prevent signature page completion.

UPDATE: Success! After trying everything, what finally worked was using the Claimyr service that @user3 recommended to reach an FSA agent. The agent found that there was a mismatch between how my name was entered in the FSA ID system (with my middle initial) versus how it appeared on the FAFSA form (without the middle initial). Such a tiny thing but it completely blocked the signature verification! The agent fixed it on their end and I was able to sign and submit immediately. My daughter's FAFSA is FINALLY complete and should be processed in time for her priority deadline. Thank you all for your help!

Great news! These small data mismatches are extremely common with the new FAFSA system. Glad you got it resolved in time for your daughter's priority deadline.

So glad it worked out! It's amazing how something so small can cause such a huge problem. The same thing happened to me - my name had a hyphen in the FSA ID system but not on the form itself.
