Can't get FAFSA electronic signature to work - any solutions?
I've been trying to electronically sign my FAFSA for the past 3 days and it's driving me CRAZY! Every time I try to complete the signature process, the website either freezes or gives me an error message saying "signature could not be processed at this time." I've tried on multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even Edge), cleared my cache, and still nothing works. My FSA ID is definitely correct - I can log in with it just fine. Has anyone else run into signature issues with the 2025-2026 FAFSA? How did you fix it? My school's priority deadline is coming up fast and I'm starting to panic!

•Omg I do have a VPN! I never even thought about that being the issue. I'll try turning it off right now. Thank you!!

Had this problem too. For me it was because my name on FSA ID wasn't EXACTLY matching my SSN record. Even though I could log in fine, the signature part is super picky about matching everything perfectly.

•Hmm, I don't think that's my issue since I've been using this FSA ID for 2 years already. But I'll double-check just to be sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm literally dealing with this right now too!! I've been trying for a week and can't get past the signature page. So frustrated I could scream. I called the FAFSA helpline and they just told me to "try again later" which is so unhelpful. Has anyone actually gotten through to a real person who could help?

•I had better luck using claimyr.com to reach a live agent at Federal Student Aid. They have a service that navigates the phone system for you and calls you back when an agent is on the line. Saved me hours of waiting and frustration when I had signature issues. There's a video demo of how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

I've seen this issue quite a bit lately with the new FAFSA system. A few troubleshooting steps that have worked for my students: 1. Try using a different device completely (computer instead of phone or vice versa) 2. Make sure your browser isn't blocking pop-ups or cookies from studentaid.gov 3. If you recently updated your FSA ID information, there's a 3-day processing period before you can use it for signatures 4. Check if your name, DOB, and SSN are exactly matching across all your documents 5. Try using the mobile app instead of the website If none of these work, you might need to request a signature override from your school's financial aid office or complete a paper signature page.

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I haven't tried using the mobile app yet, so I'll definitely do that. And I didn't know about the option for a paper signature page - that could be my backup plan if all else fails.

The electronic signature system for FAFSA is GARBAGE. I had to mail in a paper signature page last year because nothing else worked. Complete waste of time and probably delayed my aid package by weeks. The government spends millions on this system and it still doesn't work properly.

•Totally agree. The 2025-2026 FAFSA was supposed to be "new and improved" but they just made everything more complicated. My parents couldn't even figure out how to do the contributor signature part. We ended up having to go to the financial aid office in person to get it sorted out.

UPDATE: I got it working!!! Turns out it was a combination of issues. I turned off my VPN like @casual_user suggested AND used the mobile app instead of the website like @financial_aid_advisor recommended. The mobile app interface is actually way easier to use than the website. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Good to hear! Make sure you keep your confirmation # somewhere safe. Last year my FAFSA randomly went back into "processing" status a month after I submitted it and I needed that confirmation number to prove I had completed everything.

•Excellent! The mobile app is often more reliable for signatures. Don't forget to check your Student Aid Index (SAI) calculation when your FAFSA is fully processed to ensure your aid package will be correct. It typically takes 3-5 business days to get your SAI after successful submission.

So glad you got it working! I'm actually dealing with the exact same issue right now - been stuck on the signature page for days. Going to try the mobile app + turning off my VPN combo that worked for you. Quick question though - did you have to start the whole FAFSA over again on the mobile app, or were you able to pick up where you left off from the signature step?

•@Lydia Bailey I was able to pick up right where I left off! The mobile app synced with my existing application automatically when I logged in with my FSA ID. I didn t'have to redo any of the forms - just went straight to the signature page and it worked perfectly. Definitely try the VPN + mobile app combo, seems to be the magic solution for this bug!
