FAFSA parent signature button not active - can't complete application!
I'm trying to complete my daughter's 2025-2026 FAFSA but I've hit a roadblock with the parent signature. The system shows our application has been processed, but when I log in as a parent contributor and try to sign it, the "Provide Signature" button is grayed out and won't activate when I hover over it. The application is stuck at 90% complete but I literally can't click the signature button. My daughter already signed her part weeks ago. Has anyone else run into this parent signature glitch? Any solutions? Her priority deadline for university aid is in 3 weeks and I'm getting desperate!

•Thanks for the browser tip! I'm definitely listed as the parent contributor (I can see all our tax info loaded in there), but I'll try Chrome instead of Firefox tonight.

This is a known glitch with the new FAFSA system. There are three things you need to check: 1) Make sure you're using the correct FSA ID for the parent listed on the application 2) Check that all required parent information sections show a green checkmark 3) Try clearing your browser cache completely or use private/incognito mode Also, sometimes there's a 24-48 hour delay between when the student submits their signature and when the parent signature portion becomes active. If your daughter signed weeks ago though, that's not likely the issue in your case.

•Thank you! I definitely have the right FSA ID, and all sections show completed. I'll try the cache clearing and incognito mode tonight.

I had this EXACT problem and spent 3 days trying to fix it!!! What finally worked: I had to go back and review every single parent section (even though they all showed green checkmarks). When I got to the "Parent Asset Information" section, I noticed one question about savings accounts had an answer but no value entered. Fixed that, saved it, and SUDDENLY the signature button became clickable. Check all your sections again!

•Oh wow, I'll definitely go through each section with a fine-tooth comb. Maybe there's some hidden incomplete field even though everything shows as completed. Thanks for the detailed tip!

Former financial aid counselor here. This is unfortunately a common issue with the redesigned FAFSA system. Besides the excellent suggestions already mentioned, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps: 1) Verify your parent FSA ID is fully validated (check your email for confirmation) 2) Make sure you're accessing through studentaid.gov/fafsa/ not through a school portal 3) Try on a computer rather than mobile device if you haven't already 4) Check that your browser has JavaScript and cookies enabled If none of these work, you may need to speak with a Federal Student Aid agent directly. The standard FAFSA helpline (1-800-433-3243) typically has wait times of 2+ hours right now during peak season.

•Thank you for these expert tips! I've been trying on my laptop but using the link from my daughter's university portal. I'll try going directly through studentaid.gov tonight. I've been avoiding calling because of those wait times, but might have to if nothing else works.

•That's interesting! I'm listed as Parent 1 right now. I wonder if changing that designation would help? Though I'm not sure how to change that without starting over.

Have you tried calling FSA? When I had a similar issue last month, I needed to speak with someone to get it fixed. I was dreading the long wait time but used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback instead of waiting on hold. Took about 20 minutes to get a call back and the agent fixed the signature issue right away - apparently there was a flag on my account because my email address had a typo. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ With your daughter's deadline coming up, might be worth it to speak directly with someone who can see what's happening on their end.

•Thanks for the callback service tip! If the browser and portal suggestions don't work tonight, I'll definitely try this tomorrow. Didn't realize there could be account flags that only the agents can see.

The entire FAFSA system is GARBAGE this year!! This is the THIRD complete redesign in 5 years and each one is WORSE than the last!!! My son lost his institutional scholarships last semester because of these exact signature glitches - by the time we got it fixed, the school's priority deadline had passed. Call your daughter's financial aid office DIRECTLY and explain the technical issue. Sometimes they can give you a deadline extension while you sort out the FAFSA technical issues. Don't trust the government to fix this in time!!

•I'm sorry that happened to your son! I'll definitely call the university tomorrow to make them aware of the technical issues. Good idea about requesting an extension - hadn't thought of that.

One last suggestion - check if there's a discrepancy between the parent information on the FAFSA and your FSA ID. For example, if your name is "Robert" on your FSA ID but entered as "Bob" on the FAFSA, or if there's even a small spelling difference in your address, the system might not recognize you as the same person who needs to sign. These types of small mismatches are causing a lot of the signature issues this year.

•Update: THIS WAS IT!! Thank you so much! My first name on my FSA ID included my middle initial, but on the FAFSA it didn't. Fixed that discrepancy and the signature button instantly activated. Application is now 100% complete and submitted! Can't believe such a tiny detail caused so much stress.

So glad you got it fixed! Now save screenshots of EVERYTHING including the confirmation number. Trust me on this - with all the glitches this year, having proof of submission with timestamps has saved multiple families I know when their applications mysteriously "disappeared" from the system weeks later.
