FAFSA signature button greyed out after processing - how to fix missing student signature error?
Just got my daughter's FAFSA processed and hit a brick wall with the 'student signature missing' error message. So frustrating because I watched her sign it electronically before we submitted! Now the 'provide signature' button is completely greyed out and we can't click it to fix the error. Has anyone else run into this recently? Any tricks to get the button working again? Her deadline for priority consideration at her top choice is in 3 weeks and I'm starting to panic. Do we need to start a whole new application or is there some way to just add the missing signature to the existing one?

This happened to me last week! It's a glitch in the system that's affecting tons of applications right now. My son's FAFSA had the same error. Have you tried clearing your cache and using a different browser? That worked for us - the button became clickable in Firefox even though it was greyed out in Chrome.

•Thank you!! I was only trying on Chrome. Will try Firefox tonight when I get home. Did you have to wait a certain amount of time between when you got the error and when you could fix it?

This is a widespread issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. The system is marking signatures as missing even when they were provided. The resolution depends on exactly what your error code is. Can you check if there's a specific error code number on the notification? Different codes (like FSA-34 vs FSA-42) require different approaches to resolve.

•Just checked and it shows FSA-37 next to the student signature error. Does that help narrow down what we need to do?

FSA-37 specifically means the signature was recorded but not properly linked to the submission. You need to call the Federal Student Aid Information Center to have them manually verify the signature. Unfortunately, their wait times are running 3+ hours right now due to all these signature issues.

•OMG 3 HOURS!!!! I tried calling them yesterday and gave up after 45 mins. This whole new FAFSA is such a disaster. My daughter's application has been "processing" for 2 weeks now and we still can't see her SAI. How is she supposed to make college decisions by May 1st without knowing aid packages???

I work in a college financial aid office, and we're seeing this signature issue with about 30% of applications coming through. The FSA-37 error requires agent intervention. Here's what works: 1. Don't start a new application - that can cause worse problems with duplicate records 2. Call 1-800-433-3243 and ask specifically for a "signature validation override" 3. You'll need your daughter's FSA ID, the confirmation number, and her social ready 4. The agent can usually fix it while you're on the phone 5. After the override, wait 3-5 business days for reprocessing Contact your daughter's schools to let them know you're working on resolving the error. Most schools are aware of these issues and will work with students as long as they've initiated the correction process before deadlines.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! Will definitely let her schools know what's happening. That 3-5 day reprocessing time is cutting it close though...

I had this exact same problem and tried calling for THREE DAYS straight. Always disconnected after waiting forever. Finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They handle the waiting and call you back when an agent is ready. Totally worth it for me because I was about to miss my school's priority deadline. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent fixed my son's signature issue while I was on the phone, and his FAFSA was reprocessed in 4 days. Just in time for his deadline!

•Does that service really work? I've been trying to get through to FAFSA for days about my verification issues. Their website says 'high call volume' no matter when I call.

•It worked for me! Instead of me sitting on hold forever, they did the waiting and called me when they got someone. The FAFSA agent I spoke with said they're completely overwhelmed with calls about these signature errors right now.

•Creating a new FAFSA application can actually cause more problems! The system might flag both applications as duplicates, which can delay processing even more. Always try to correct the existing application rather than starting over, especially after it's been processed.

UPDATE: After trying everything, I finally got through to a FAFSA agent this morning! Used the Claimyr service that was suggested here and it worked perfectly. The agent confirmed it was a known issue with the system and did the signature override. She said it should be reprocessed within 3-5 days. She also gave me a case number to provide to my daughter's schools if they need proof we've resolved the issue before their deadline. Thank you all for your help!

•So glad you got it fixed! I've been telling everyone in my daughter's senior class parent group about this issue because so many are running into it. Good to know that service works for getting through to someone quickly.
