FAFSA signature button greyed out after processing - can't complete daughter's 2025 application
My daughter's FAFSA finally shows 'processed' after submitting on January 2nd, but now it's saying I never signed it (I absolutely did). When my daughter logs in, she gets a message telling her that I need to log into my FSA ID account, hit the 'corrections' button and provide the missing signature. But when I log in, there's NO corrections button anywhere, and the 'provide signature' button is completely greyed out and unclickable! I've tried logging in and out multiple times, clearing my browser cache, and even using a different device. Nothing works. My daughter is graduating in a few months and needs this financial aid package finalized ASAP. This signature issue is preventing her SAI score from being calculated and sent to her chosen schools. Has anyone experienced this signature glitch and found a solution? I'm at my wit's end here.

•Thanks, I'll try Edge tonight. Did you have to do anything special once you got in? I'm worried the signature button will still be greyed out regardless of browser.

This is a known glitch in the new FAFSA system. The problem is that the system sometimes fails to register parent signatures even when they were properly submitted. I recommend three steps: 1. Take screenshots of the error message for documentation 2. Try using the "forgot signature" option if available (sometimes appears under the help menu) 3. If that doesn't work, you'll need to call Federal Student Aid directly at 1-800-433-3243 They can manually verify and update your signature status. Be prepared to wait though - phone lines are extremely backed up right now with similar issues.

•Thank you for the detailed steps! I looked everywhere and don't see a "forgot signature" option, so I guess I'll have to call. I tried calling yesterday but gave up after 45 minutes on hold.

my duaghter had this same exact problem!!!! so frustrting. what fixed it was we had to completely start over with a brand new FAFSA application. dont do any corrections. just start completelty fresh and resubmit everything. took us 2 hours but it finally worked

•Starting over is terrible advice. You'll lose your place in the processing queue and potentially miss priority deadlines. The issue is specifically with the signature system, not the entire application.

I had this EXACT issue last week with my son's FAFSA. The government's brilliant solution was to roll out a completely new system with zero testing. Here's what fixed it for me: 1. Log out of BOTH accounts (yours and your daughter's) 2. Clear ALL browser cookies and cache 3. Log into YOUR account first 4. Go to the "My FAFSA" section (not the correction section) 5. There should be a notification about incomplete signatures 6. Click THAT notification (not the greyed out button) If that doesn't work, honestly, call FSA directly and demand they fix it. It's THEIR error, not yours.

•Thank you so much for these specific steps! I'll try this tonight. You're right about the new system - I've never seen such a poorly implemented rollout in my life.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to a FAFSA agent? I was stuck on hold for hours trying to fix a similar signature problem until someone recommended it. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Basically it holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. I used it on claimyr.com and got through to someone who could actually override the signature issue in their system. Saved me from having to resubmit the entire application! The agent explained this is happening to tons of parents this year because of bugs in the new system.

•That video looks super helpful - thanks for sharing! I'm going to try the browser solutions first, but if those don't work, I'll definitely use this service. Anything to avoid sitting on hold for hours.

I work in a college financial aid office, and unfortunately, we're seeing this signature problem constantly with the new FAFSA system. Here are the technical details: - The signature issue occurs when there's a mismatch between the parent's FSA ID information and the information entered on the student's FAFSA - Even a single character difference in address, name spelling, or date format can trigger this - The system should prompt for corrections but instead often gets stuck in this signature loop The most reliable solution is calling FSA directly. While attempting the browser solutions mentioned above, double-check that your personal information matches EXACTLY across both FSA ID and FAFSA. Be especially careful with middle initials, suffixes (Jr., Sr.), and address formatting.

•This is incredibly helpful context - thank you! I'm thinking the issue might be with my address. I moved last summer but kept getting mail forwarded. I bet my FSA ID has my old address but I used my current one on her FAFSA.

why dont u just try signing with ur daughters fsa id if she has the password? my mom did that when we had same problem lol

•Please DO NOT do this. Using someone else's FSA ID is considered fraud and could result in the entire application being rejected or flagged for verification, which would delay processing even further.

UPDATE: IT'S FIXED! Wanted to share what worked for anyone else facing this issue. These steps did the trick: 1. I used Microsoft Edge instead of Chrome (thanks for that tip!) 2. Checked my FSA ID info and found my address was incorrect as someone suggested 3. Updated my address in my FSA ID account 4. Completely logged out of everything 5. Cleared all browser data 6. Logged back in to my parent account 7. Found a notification in the "My FAFSA" section (not under corrections) 8. Clicked that notification which took me to a working signature page The signature button is now showing my signature as complete! My daughter's application now shows fully processed with her SAI score calculated. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Thank you for sharing your solution! This will help others facing the same issue. Make sure your daughter checks with her schools to confirm they've received the processed FAFSA data.
