FAFSA signature page won't let me sign as parent - where to call for help?
I'm completely lost with this FAFSA signature issue! The website keeps rejecting my electronic signature as a parent and I can't submit my daughter's application. I've tried clearing my browser cache, using a different device, even creating a new FSA ID, but nothing works. The error just says "signature cannot be processed at this time." Who exactly do I call about fixing a parent signature problem? Is there a specific department that handles signature issues? And what is the correct parent portal website? The one my daughter sent me looks different than what her high school counselor mentioned. Thanks in advance for helping this confused mom!

You need to call Federal Student Aid at 1-800-433-3243. They handle all signature issues. Make sure you have your FSA ID ready when you call. The parent website should be studentaid.gov - same as your student's, but you log in with your own FSA ID. Sometimes the signature page glitches if you didn't use the exact same information (SSN, DOB, name) that's on your tax returns.

•Thank you! I'll try calling that number tomorrow. Do you know if they're really busy right now? I've heard horror stories about waiting for hours...

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM last week!! Its because the FAFSA website is COMPLETELY BROKEN after they "simplified" it 🙄 I tried calling that 800 number for THREE DAYS and couldn't get through. They disconnect you after 2 hours on hold which is INSANE. The whole system is designed to prevent people from getting aid!!

I went through this last month. The parent portal is studentaid.gov but you need to make sure you're using YOUR FSA ID (not your daughter's). The most common reason for signature issues is a mismatch between what's on your FSA ID and what's on your tax returns. Double check that your name, SSN, and DOB match EXACTLY what's on your tax forms.

•I double checked and everything seems to match with my tax info. The frustrating part is that it doesn't give me any specific error - just says it can't process my signature. I'm wondering if it's because I got married last year and changed my last name?

Try using Claimyr to get through to a FAFSA agent quickly - claimyr.com saved me hours of hold time when I had signature issues. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. They'll call you back when an agent is on the line. That signature error usually means there's some verification flag on your account that only an agent can clear.

•It worked for me! I was skeptical too but they actually got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own.

Hi there! In addition to the great advice already given, I wanted to mention that if you have a name mismatch (like you mentioned getting married), that's often the culprit. You'll likely need to update your FSA ID information to match your current legal name. Also, the correct parent website is definitely studentaid.gov - any other site is not official. The most direct way to the parent dashboard is studentaid.gov/fafsa/filling-out/parent-info.

•Thank you so much! That link is super helpful. I'm going to try updating my FSA ID information first and see if that helps with the signature issue.

•I created my FSA ID about a week ago, so that shouldn't be the issue. But good tip about the .gov site - I'll double check that I'm on the right one!

Update: I finally got this resolved! For anyone with the same issue - it turned out my name change from marriage was indeed the problem. Had to call the FSA help line (took forever to get through) and they had to manually override the signature verification. My daughter's application is now processed and we got her SAI score. Thanks everyone for your help!

•I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. It actually worked - I got a call back with an agent on the line in about 15 minutes! Saved me hours of frustration.

As someone who just went through the FAFSA process myself, I can relate to how frustrating this signature issue can be! Based on what I've seen in this thread, it sounds like your name change from marriage is likely the root cause. A few quick suggestions: 1) Make sure you're logging into studentaid.gov (the official site) with YOUR own FSA ID, not your daughter's, 2) Check that all your personal info (name, SSN, DOB) on your FSA ID matches exactly what's on your most recent tax return, and 3) If there's a mismatch due to your name change, you'll probably need to call FSA to get it manually corrected. The Claimyr service that Emma mentioned seems to be helping people avoid the long hold times - might be worth trying if the regular phone line isn't working. Good luck getting this sorted out!
