FAFSA parent signature missing - can't access to complete submission

I'm having the worst time with my FAFSA signature process! Our application was submitted without the parent signature (not sure how that even happened), and now I can't figure out how to get back in to sign it. Every time I try to access the signature page, it either redirects me or gives an error. I've tried logging in through my FSA ID, my parent tried with their FSA ID, we've used different browsers - nothing works! The application status says "Action Required" but doesn't give clear instructions on how to complete the signature process. Has anyone else dealt with this parent signature issue? Any tips for accessing the signature page when it seems completely broken?

I had the same problem last week! What worked for me was having my parent log in with their own FSA ID (not through the student portal). Then they had to go to "FAFSA Review" page, scroll all the way to the bottom, and there should be a prompt for the missing signature. The system is super glitchy right now with the new FAFSA changes. Make sure you're using the desktop site too, not mobile.

Thanks for responding! My dad tried logging in with his FSA ID but he doesn't see any "FAFSA Review" option anywhere. Do you remember exactly where that option appears? Is it right on the dashboard or do you have to navigate through several screens?

I haven't tried incognito mode yet! Good suggestion, I'll have my dad try that tonight. So frustrating how something as simple as a signature becomes such a technical nightmare...

This is a common issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. The parent signature process requires the parent to log in with their own unique FSA ID. Here's the correct procedure: 1. The parent must create their own FSA ID if they don't have one already 2. Parent logs in at studentaid.gov using THEIR FSA ID 3. From the parent dashboard, click on "Complete Aid Process" 4. Select "FAFSA Form" 5. Choose "Complete the FAFSA as a Parent" 6. Enter the student's information when prompted 7. The system will find the pending application 8. Navigate to the signature page If this doesn't work, it's possible there's a system error or a mismatch in the information between the student and parent profiles.

Thank you for these detailed steps! I'll walk my dad through them tonight. We've tried several approaches but not in this exact sequence. One question - does my dad need my FSA ID or just my name/birthday when he's entering the student information?

Honestly the whole FAFSA system is trash now with these "improvements" they made. My daughters application has been stuck in processing for 6 WEEKS. No SAI score, no nothing. Called over 20 times and can never get through. Signatures are just the beginning of the problems!

I feel your pain! I spent 2 hours on hold with FSA yesterday trying to fix my son's SAI calculation after we finally got the parent signature issue fixed. The new system is causing so many delays that I'm worried we'll miss priority deadlines. Have you tried Claimyr to get through? I found it at claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works (https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ). Saved me from the endless hold loop and got me connected to an actual person who could help with our form issues.

Never heard of it but at this point I'll try ANYTHING. Thx for the suggestion.

Are you sure the application is actually showing as "submitted" and not just "started"? I thought mine was submitted but it was actually just saved. For the parent signature, they need to use their own FSA ID, not yours. And make sure all the parent information matches EXACTLY what's on their tax forms or the signature verification might fail.

It definitely shows as submitted but with "Action Required" status. The confusing part is that we can't access whatever action is required! I'm going to triple check that my dad's info matches his tax return exactly. Maybe that's the issue.

Try calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). They can look up your specific application and tell you exactly what steps to take. Sometimes there's a glitch where the system thinks the parent already signed when they haven't, or vice versa. An agent can reset the signature page access for you.

I've been trying that number for days! Either get a busy signal or the automated system hangs up after saying they're experiencing high call volume. I'll keep trying though.

We had this EXACT issue last month. After trying everything ourselves, we finally got through to someone at FSA using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. The agent we spoke with explained that there was a glitch in the system where parent signatures were being marked as "pending verification" instead of "missing." They had to manually reset our application status to allow us to complete the signature process. Worth a try if nothing else is working!

Thank you! This might be exactly what we need. I've been pulling my hair out trying to solve this for days. I'll check out that service and see if we can get someone to manually reset our application.

Update to my earlier comment - I remembered one more thing that might help. After my parent logged in, they had to select the "Fill out a parent form for a student who has already started a FAFSA form" option. That's different from the "Complete the FAFSA as a Parent" option. The wording is confusing but they're actually different paths in the system.

This might be the issue! We've been trying the "Complete the FAFSA as a Parent" option. I'll have him try the other path tonight. It's so frustrating how unclear the options are...

might sound dumb but did u check ur email? sometimes they send a special link to complete signatures that bypasses the regular login process. i ignored mine for like a week then finally found it lol

Not dumb at all! Checking email folders now... you never know! These days I'm willing to try absolutely anything to get this resolved.

UPDATE: We finally got it working!! It was actually a combination of things: 1) Having my parent use the "Fill out a parent form for a student who has already started a FAFSA form" option 2) Using incognito mode to prevent cookie issues 3) Making sure the email address matched exactly what was on the initial application. Thanks everyone for your help! The new FAFSA system is such a maze to navigate.

Glad you got it resolved! For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, I recommend taking screenshots of each step of the FAFSA process in case you need to backtrack later. The new system sometimes loses information between sections.
