FAFSA signature loop: form keeps saying 'not signed' after multiple signatures - need urgent help!
I'm so frustrated with this FAFSA signature issue! On March 28th I submitted my application, but got an email saying it wasn't signed. I went back on April 11th to sign it, completed everything, but then all my information disappeared! The whole form went blank. Then on April 17th, I could see my information again and I re-signed everything. The status changed to "processed" and I thought I was finally done. But yesterday I got ANOTHER email saying my FAFSA wasn't signed! I tried to log in to sign it again but there's literally no option to sign anything. Then I tried to use the "make corrections" option but the system won't let me do that either. It's like I'm completely locked out with no way to fix this. My SAI calculation and aid package are just sitting there in limbo. Has anyone else experienced this endless signature loop? What did you do to finally break the cycle? My college's financial aid deadline is coming up fast and I'm panicking.

Yes, I've seen this happen to several students this application cycle! The 2025-2026 FAFSA has been having serious signature verification glitches. Here's what you need to do: 1. First, clear your browser cache completely and try using a different browser altogether 2. If that doesn't work, you need to call FSA directly at 1-800-433-3243 3. They'll need to manually verify your signature and reset your signature status 4. Make sure you have your confirmation number and FSA ID ready when you call Unfortunately, this isn't something you can fix online once it gets stuck in this loop. The chat support also can't help with signature verification issues - it has to be done by phone.

•Thanks for the advice. I've already tried clearing cache and using Edge instead of Chrome. Still nothing. I've been calling that number for two days but can't get through - just endless holding then disconnecting. Is there any other way to reach them? This is seriously stressing me out.

•So frustrating! Have you been able to get through to anyone on the phone? I feel like I'm just throwing my application into a black hole at this point.

This happened to my daughter too. The problem is that if you have a parent contribution, BOTH you AND your parent need to sign. My daughter kept signing her part but I hadn't done mine, so it kept showing as unsigned. Check if that might be your issue?

•That's a good point, but my mom definitely signed her part too. We actually sat together and both signed at the same time on April 17th. Then we got the "processed" confirmation. That's why this new "not signed" email is so confusing - we BOTH signed it!

The FAFSA signature issue is unfortunately a known technical glitch with the new system. From my experience working with students, there are two distinct problems: 1. The signature verification server sometimes fails to record signatures properly even when they're completed correctly 2. There's a timing issue where if both student and parent don't sign within a certain timeframe of each other, the system may invalidate the first signature You're right that this requires calling FSA directly - they can force a manual signature verification on their end. But I know the phone lines have been absolutely swamped lately with similar issues. One option is to contact your school's financial aid office ASAP. Show them the emails confirming you submitted and attempted to sign multiple times. Many schools are making accommodations for these known FAFSA technical issues while students get them resolved.

•Thanks for explaining! I'll definitely contact my school's financial aid office tomorrow morning. It's reassuring to know this is a known issue and not just something I'm doing wrong. I'll keep trying the phone line too, but it's been impossible to get through.

I had the EXACT same problem!!! It's because the new FAFSA system is garbage. What fixed it for me was signing out completely, then using the "Forgot Password" option to reset my FSA ID password. After that I could log back in and somehow the signature issue was magically fixed. Try that before spending hours on the phone.

•Really? That's such a weird fix but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. I'll try resetting my FSA ID password right now and let you know if it works for me too. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've been helping students with this exact issue for weeks now. The signature verification system for the 2025-2026 FAFSA is seriously flawed. Unfortunately, when you get stuck in this loop, calling FSA directly is really the only solution. I know the wait times are terrible right now, but I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get through to an agent in about 10 minutes instead of waiting for hours. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ When you do get through, ask specifically for a "signature override" - that's the term the agents use internally. They'll verify your identity and can force the system to accept your signature. Make sure to get a case number and the agent's ID when they complete the override.

•Thank you! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm checking out that video right now. At this point I'd do anything to get this resolved. I'll ask for a "signature override" specifically when I get through. Really appreciate the insider tip!

There's actually a backdoor solution nobody tells you about. If you start a brand new FAFSA application but DON'T submit it, then go back to your original application, sometimes it resets the signature mechanism. The whole system is completely broken. My brother works in IT and says the database is corrupted and they know it but won't admit it publicly. Just more government incompetence costing us all money and time!!!

Just following up - after you contact your school's financial aid office, make sure to get documentation of your conversation. Ask them to note in your file that you're experiencing the known signature verification glitch. Many schools are implementing workarounds where they'll process your preliminary FAFSA data while waiting for the signature issues to be resolved. Also important - don't create multiple applications as someone suggested. This can cause even more problems in the system and potentially flag your application for verification, which adds another layer of complications.

•Thanks for the follow-up! I got through to my school's financial aid office this morning. They were super understanding and said they're seeing this problem with lots of students. They made a note in my file and told me they'll process my preliminary data while I work on getting the signature issue fixed with FSA. What a relief!

FYI I just saw on the FSA Twitter that they're doing system maintenance this weekend that's supposed to fix the signature issues. Maybe wait until Monday before trying again? Good luck!

•Really? That's great news! I'll definitely wait until after the maintenance before trying again. Hopefully this nightmare will finally be over. Thanks for the heads up!
