FAFSA keeps flagging 'missing signature' error despite multiple fixes - am I wasting my time?
I'm at my wits' end with the FAFSA system right now. First submission went through fine, then two weeks later got an email saying my FAFSA was missing a signature. Logged in immediately, checked everything, and sure enough the student signature section showed as incomplete (even though I KNOW I signed it). Re-signed electronically, got confirmation, all good right? WRONG. Last week, randomly got ANOTHER notification saying something was missing. Logged in again, spent 30 minutes going through every section - everything showed complete, all green checkmarks! Then today - BAM - yet ANOTHER email saying there's a missing signature??? This is my third time applying and I've never had these glitches before. My SAI is probably going to be too high for grants anyway, but I need to complete this for scholarship eligibility at my school. Has anyone else dealt with this signature glitch nightmare? Is there some hidden signature page I'm missing? Or is the system just completely broken this year?

•Did you ever figure out what was causing it? I can't keep doing this every week...

There's actually a common issue this year with the signatures not registering properly in the system. What you need to check is if BOTH student and parent signatures are complete. Often people miss that there are two separate signature requirements - one for the student and one for the parent/contributor. Also, make sure you're using the same FSA ID credentials each time you log in to fix it. Sometimes creating multiple FSA IDs can cause this problem.

•I triple-checked both signatures (mine and my mom's). We both signed again just to be sure. The really frustrating part is that the FAFSA website shows everything as complete with green checkmarks, but then I still get these emails saying something's missing.

The 2025-2026 FAFSA has been a NIGHTMARE with these technical issues. The signature problem is happening because the system isn't syncing properly between the front-end interface (what you see) and their back-end database. I work at a college financial aid office and we're seeing this CONSTANTLY this year. Here's what you need to do: 1. Log out completely 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies 3. Use a different browser altogether if possible 4. Log back in with your FSA ID 5. Go directly to the signature page (don't just check if it shows complete) 6. Re-sign even if it shows as already signed 7. Take screenshots of EVERYTHING as proof Then wait 3-4 business days for processing before checking again.

•Thank you so much for these specific steps! I'll try this today. Do you know if this will reset my place in the processing queue or will they keep my original submission date? I'm worried about missing priority deadlines for my school.

•They should maintain your original submission date as long as you're making corrections and not starting a new application. But definitely check with your school's financial aid office to make sure they're aware of the situation. Many schools are being flexible with deadlines due to all the FAFSA issues this year.

•This is actually terrible advice. Even if you don't think you'll qualify for federal grants, completing the FAFSA is required for many scholarships, work-study opportunities, and even some merit-based aid. Plus, everyone qualifies for unsubsidized federal loans which have much better terms than private loans. Please don't discourage people from completing this important financial aid step.

I experienced the exact same signature problem and nothing worked until I called Federal Student Aid directly. The agent told me there was a glitch affecting certain accounts where the system would show signatures as complete on the user interface but they weren't actually registering in their database. I spent THREE HOURS on hold trying to reach someone, but once I got through, they fixed it on their end in about 5 minutes. The secret is to use Claimyr to get through faster - it's a service that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration. I used their website claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Definitely worth it because the agent can see exactly what's happening with your application and fix these weird signature glitches immediately.

•That's really helpful! I was dreading spending hours on hold. I'll check out that service since it sounds like talking to an actual person is the only way to resolve this. Did they tell you why it keeps happening?

•They told me it's related to the new FAFSA system launched for the 2025-2026 application cycle. Apparently, there's some disconnect between what we see on the website and what's actually recorded in their system. The agent mentioned they're working on a fix, but for now, they have to manually verify and update signature status for affected accounts.

This happened to me to but it was my parents signature not mine!!!!! So annoying!! Check both signatures not just yours. Also make sure your using the RIGHT FSA ID my dad accidentally made a new one and that messed everything up lol

Stick with it! I know it's frustrating but completing your FAFSA is crucial even if you don't think you'll qualify for need-based aid. Many states have FAFSA completion requirements for state scholarships, and some merit scholarships require it too. Plus, your financial situation might change, and having your FAFSA on file makes adjustments much easier. For the signature issue specifically, try these additional steps that worked for me: 1. Use the desktop site, not mobile 2. Make sure your popup blocker is disabled 3. When you get to the signature page, wait a full 30 seconds on the page before clicking anything (there's some background loading that happens) 4. After signing, stay on the confirmation page for at least a minute before navigating away This weird "patience" approach fixed it for me after multiple failed attempts. The new SAI system is much more technical than the old EFC calculation, so it's worth persisting to understand your aid eligibility.

The Federal Student Aid website has been a DISASTER this year!!! I'm convinced they're deliberately making it difficult so fewer people get financial aid. They can claim they're "offering" all this money while making the system so broken nobody can actually complete the application! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

•While the frustration is understandable, there's no evidence of deliberate obstruction. The issues are most likely related to the significant overhaul of the FAFSA system for 2025-2026, which changed from the old EFC to the new SAI calculation model. Any major system update of this scale typically has bugs that need to be worked out. It's unfortunate timing but not a conspiracy.

UPDATE: I followed the advice from this thread and FINALLY got it fixed! For anyone having the same issue, what worked was: 1. Clearing my browser cache completely 2. Using Chrome instead of Safari 3. Re-signing both student and parent sections even though they showed as complete 4. Staying on each page for at least 30 seconds before proceeding (weird but it worked!) AND most importantly - I used Claimyr to reach a Federal Student Aid agent who manually verified the signatures were received on their end. The agent confirmed there was a known issue with signature verification for some accounts and put a note on my file. My FAFSA now shows as fully processed with an SAI score! Thanks everyone for your help!
