FAFSA signature issue - Parent signature showing as missing despite confirmation email
I submitted my daughter's FAFSA application about 3 weeks ago and received the confirmation email saying everything was complete after I signed it as a parent. Yesterday, my daughter checked the status on studentaid.gov and it shows 'missing parent signature' which makes zero sense since I definitely signed it! When she tries to fix it by clicking 'provide signature' nothing happens - the button doesn't work at all. The application is just stuck in limbo now. Has anyone dealt with this glitch? Any suggestions on how to get past this? I'm worried about her missing out on aid if we can't resolve this signature issue soon.

•Did you ever figure out how to fix it? I'm trying everything but nothing seems to work!

This is actually a known issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. The system sometimes doesn't properly register parent signatures even when they're completed. There are three things you can try: 1. Have your daughter log out completely, clear browser cache/cookies, then log back in using a different browser 2. Wait 48 hours - sometimes the system updates slowly 3. If those don't work, you'll need to call FSA directly at 1-800-433-3243 Make sure you have your confirmation email handy as proof that you did complete the signature process initially.

•Thank you! We tried the different browser already and it's been more than 48 hours. Guess we'll have to call, but I've heard the wait times are ridiculous...

THE EXACT SAME THING happened to me!!! I signed it for my son back in January and then two weeks later it said missing parent signature!!! I spent FOUR HOURS on hold with FSA and then got disconnected!!! This new FAFSA system is a COMPLETE DISASTER and nobody seems to care that students might miss deadlines because of THEIR technical problems!!!

•Did you ever get through to them? What happened after you were disconnected?

•I gave up after being disconnected. Then I tried again the next day and got disconnected AGAIN after 2 more hours. It's absolutely infuriating!!

I've seen this issue pop up in several threads. From what I understand, the signature problem is happening when parents use the same device that the student used. When I had this issue with my daughter's FAFSA, we tried logging in on separate devices (her on laptop, me on phone) and redoing the signature section. That fixed it for us but took like a week to update in the system.

•That's interesting, we did both use the same computer. I'll try signing in from my phone. Did you have to request a new signature opportunity or did the system just let you sign again?

•We had to call and request them to reset the signature section. That's the tricky part - getting through to someone on the phone.

I had the same problem last month when submitting for my twins. Here's what worked for me: 1. First, check if you're fully logged out of your FSA ID when your student logs in, and vice versa. 2. Make sure you're using different email addresses for parent and student accounts. 3. If the 'provide signature' button isn't working, try accessing the form through the 'Documents' section instead of the main dashboard. 4. If that fails, you need to call FSA directly and ask them to reset the signature section. Unfortunately, calling FSA is a nightmare right now with wait times of 2+ hours.

•Thank you for these detailed suggestions! We definitely have separate email addresses for our accounts. I'll try the Documents section approach first.

I was stuck in the same situation and spent days trying to get through to anyone at FSA. I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and call when an agent is on the line. Saved me so much time! There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Once I got through, the agent was able to reset the signature section in about 5 minutes, and I was able to sign again. The status updated to 'processing' within a day.

•That sounds like exactly what I need! I'll check it out because I really can't afford to sit on hold for hours during work. Did they ask for any sensitive information when you used it?

•No sensitive info needed - just your phone number so they can call you when the agent is on the line. When they connected me, I was talking directly to the FSA agent, and they were able to verify my identity and fix the signature issue right away.

•No, we definitely have separate FSA IDs. I double-checked that already. Thanks for the suggestion though!

One more thing to be aware of: the SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation can't begin until all signatures are properly recorded. This new FAFSA has a verification process that sometimes flags signature issues even when they appear to be complete. When you do get through to FSA, make sure they check if your application was flagged for verification as well - this could be causing the signature problem to persist.

•That's good to know about the SAI calculation. I'll make sure to ask about verification when I call. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow morning since I really need to get this resolved before her school's priority deadline next week.

Anyone else notice how EVERY SINGLE YEAR they manage to break something new with the FAFSA? Last year it was the income verification, the year before the website crashed constantly... I swear they do this on purpose to reduce the number of people who successfully apply! My daughter lost a $5000 scholarship last year because her FAFSA wasn't processed in time due to their errors!!

Update on my situation - finally got our signature issue fixed this morning! Called FSA at exactly 8:00 AM Eastern when their phone lines open and only had to wait 20 minutes. The agent said there's a known bug with parent signatures in Chrome browsers specifically. They reset the signature section in their system and I was able to sign again. The status is now showing as 'processing' instead of 'missing signature.

•That's great news! Thanks for the tip about calling right when they open. If the Claimyr thing doesn't work out, I'll try the early morning approach.
