Missing FAFSA signature page - application shows 'in process' without letting us sign
I'm in total panic mode right now. My daughter just submitted her 2025-2026 FAFSA yesterday and something went wrong with the signature part. She went through all the steps and when it said "Continue to sign," she clicked it, but NO signature page ever appeared! Now her application status shows "In processing" but I'm terrified it will get rejected because neither of us signed it. Has this happened to anyone? Is there a way to add signatures after submission? The deadline for her top-choice school's priority consideration is next week and I don't want her to lose out on financial aid because of a technical glitch.

This actually happened to me with my son's FAFSA last month! Don't panic yet. Log into studentaid.gov with your FSA ID (not your daughter's), and check the "My Documents" section. There should be a notification about incomplete signatures with an option to complete them. If you don't see that, call FSA at 1-800-433-3243, but be prepared to wait 2+ hours.

•Thank you so much! I just logged in with my FSA ID but I don't see anything in the My Documents section. I've been trying to call that number all morning but can't get through. :

•Oh no, that's what I'm afraid of! Did they count your first application as your one allowed submission? I heard we only get one chance per year!

•nah they let me do another one. but you have to call and tell them to cancel the first one or else they get confused. the whole systems a mess lol

When it shows "in processing" without signatures, it's usually because of one of three things: 1. Browser compatibility issue - try accessing the same account from a different browser (Chrome works best with FAFSA) 2. There's a 1-3 day delay before the signature request appears in the action items 3. The system already has your signatures from saved information (did you check the box to reuse signatures from previous years?) Before starting over, login to both FSA IDs (yours and your daughter's) and check the "To Do" items on each dashboard. One of you might have a signature request waiting.

•Thank you for this detailed info! I don't think we checked any box about reusing signatures, but I'll have her check her FSA ID account too. We both used Safari, so maybe that was part of the problem?

•Safari is often problematic with the FAFSA site. Definitely have her check her FSA ID account separately - the signature request typically appears in only one account (usually the student's), not both. If you still don't see it after 72 hours, then you'll need to contact FSA directly.

My daughter had SAME EXACT problem with her FAFSA!!! She's at UCLA now and got all her aid just fine, so don't worry too much. The signature thing fixed itself after like 4 days and then we got an email saying to sign. The whole system is SO glitchy this year with all the FAFSA simplification changes.

I work at a college financial aid office, and we're seeing this issue frequently with the new FAFSA system. There are a few important things to understand: 1. An "in processing" status WITHOUT signatures will eventually get rejected, but it takes 3-5 business days before that happens 2. You still have time to add signatures before it's rejected 3. Even if it does get rejected, you can submit a new FAFSA - there's no "one submission only" rule (but corrections are easier than resubmitting) Check both FSA ID accounts daily for the next few days. Look under "Messages," "To Do List," and "My Documents." The signature request should appear in one of those places within 72 hours. If nothing appears after 3 days, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center. Be prepared for very long wait times right now.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! This makes me feel much better. We'll keep checking both accounts and wait the 72 hours before panicking more. I really appreciate your help!

I tried calling FSA about this EXACT problem last month and spent 3 hours on hold before getting disconnected. Try using Claimyr.com - it holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of waiting! They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ that shows how it works. The agent I spoke with said they could manually send a signature request to both FSA IDs.

•Thank you! I've never heard of this service before but I'll check it out. I've already been disconnected twice today after waiting over an hour each time!

FAFSA is COMPLETE GARBAGE this year. My son's application has been "processing" for 5 WEEKS with NO SAI score yet. We called 16 TIMES and got disconnected EVERY TIME. The one time we got through, they said there's a "system-wide issue with signatures" affecting THOUSANDS of applications. They're supposedly fixing it but WHO KNOWS when. My son might lose his scholarship because of their incompetence. I'm LIVID.

•Oh no, that's terrible! 5 weeks?? Now I'm really worried. Did they at least tell you if there's anything you can do while waiting?

•NOTHING. Just "wait and see" while my son's future hangs in the balance. The FAFSA "simplification" is a DISASTER. I've contacted our congressman's office to file a complaint. That's literally the only thing that's helped - suddenly they're "expediting" his application. Try that if you don't get answers soon!

Just checking in - did you manage to resolve this issue? If it's been 72 hours, you should definitely see something in one of your accounts by now. If not, there are still options to fix it before deadlines.

•Yes! Thank you for checking back. The signature request finally showed up in my daughter's account this morning (about 3.5 days after submission). We both signed it right away, and now it shows "processing" again, but properly this time. Such a relief! I appreciate everyone's help and advice.
