FAFSA signature error won't let my daughter sign after correction notification - anyone else?
So frustrated right now! My daughter and I submitted her 2025-2026 FAFSA two weeks ago, but yesterday we got an email saying it wasn't properly signed. The message said to 'Select Make a Correction' and then electronically sign it. Simple enough, right? WRONG! When she logs in and clicks on 'Make a Correction,' the signature page never appears. It just keeps cycling back to the dashboard without letting her sign anything! I've been waiting on the studentaid.gov live chat for over an hour now, and still nothing. The phone number just gives me an automated message saying high call volume. Her college financial aid deadline is coming up in 10 days and I'm starting to panic. Is anyone else dealing with this signature glitch? Any solutions? I'm about ready to throw my laptop out the window!

This is a known issue with the new FAFSA system. There are two ways to fix it: 1. Clear your browser cache completely, then use a different browser (Firefox works best) 2. Look for the "Processing Applications" tab, not the "Make Corrections" button. Sometimes the signature option is hiding there instead. If neither works, you'll need to contact FSA directly - but their wait times are awful this time of year because of all the new FAFSA changes.

•Thank you! I'll try Firefox right now. I didn't even think about browser issues.

•Wait a second, I work at a financial aid office and I'm not sure this advice is correct. The signature issue usually means the SAI calculation has failed behind the scenes. Making corrections won't fix it - the system has to complete processing first. What status does it show exactly?

I had THIS EXACT PROBLEM last month!!! I wasted like 4 days trying to get it fixed by myself. The FSA website is GARBAGE this year with all their "improvements" 🙄 I finally got through to an agent who fixed it on their end. Turns out there was some kind of verification flag on our application that was preventing the signature page from loading. The agent had to remove it manually before we could sign.

•That makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one! How did you eventually get through to a real person? I've been trying for days.

Financial aid counselor here. This signature issue is affecting about 15% of FAFSA applications right now due to the new system. The problem is that in some cases, the initial signature attempt gets recorded in the system but doesn't complete properly, creating a stuck state. The most reliable fix is having an FSA agent reset the signature status on their end. Unfortunately, reaching them is extremely difficult right now due to high volume. I recommend trying these steps in order: 1. Try signing at exactly midnight Eastern Time (the system resets some flags then) 2. Try using both the mobile app AND the website (sometimes one works when the other doesn't) 3. If those fail, you'll need to reach an agent directly Make sure to document all your attempts with screenshots in case you need to appeal a missed deadline with your college's financial aid office.

•Thank you for the advice! I'll try the midnight trick tonight. Do you know if colleges are being understanding about these FAFSA glitches affecting deadlines?

•Most colleges are aware of the widespread FAFSA issues this year and are being somewhat flexible, but it varies by institution. I strongly recommend emailing your daughter's college financial aid office immediately to document that you're actively trying to resolve a technical issue before the deadline. Include screenshots if possible.

Try clicking the "Help" button at the top right instead of the correction link. Sometimes there's a different path to the signature page that way. Also make sure your daughter is using her own FSA ID and not yours when trying to sign. I almost made that mistake myself lol

After spending days dealing with the exact same issue last month, I finally got through to an FSA rep using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It lets you skip the phone wait without having to sit there for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to reset the signature status in their system in about 5 minutes once I got through. Apparently it's a known glitch that happens when the parent and student try to sign too close together in time.

•Thank you! I'd never heard of this service but I'm desperate at this point. Did you have to provide any sensitive information to use it?

•Nope, it just holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is ready. You still talk directly with the FSA agent for all the personal stuff. Was totally worth it for me because I had already wasted so many hours on hold.

anyone else think its crazy how they completely redesigned FAFSA and somehow made it MORE broken than before? like how do they mess up something as basic as electronic signatures in 2025?

•SERIOUSLY!!! And they had an extra 3 months to fix everything when they delayed the release! What were they even doing all that time? 🤦♀️

UPDATE: I just checked the FSA Twitter account, and they've acknowledged the signature issue. They're supposedly implementing a fix within the next 48 hours. In the meantime, they recommend contacting your college's financial aid office to notify them of the technical problem, as they're providing extensions for affected students.

•Thank you for the update! That's a huge relief. I'll email her college right now to let them know.
