FAFSA parent signature option missing - can't submit application

I'm freaking out because we're up against the priority deadline! I've completed all the student sections of the 2026-27 FAFSA and electronically signed my part, but my mom can't find where to sign as the parent contributor. We've triple-checked that all the parent info is entered correctly (taxes, assets, etc.), but there's literally NO button or link for her to add her signature. The application is just sitting there at 99% complete and we can't submit it. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some hidden menu we're missing? Please tell me this is an easy fix!

did u check if theres a "review & submit" button at the bottom of the parent section? sometimes it gets hidden if the screen isnt scrolled all the way down. my mom had the same issue last year

We scrolled all the way down multiple times and there's nothing there! Just the confirmation that all the parent info is complete, but no signature option or next step button.

This is a common issue with the redesigned FAFSA system. Your parent needs to create their own FSA ID separately and log in with their own credentials to sign the FAFSA. The parent can't sign through the student's session. Here's what to do: 1. Your parent needs to create their own FSA ID at studentaid.gov/fsa-id 2. Once they have that, they should log into studentaid.gov with THEIR credentials (not yours) 3. Under "Apply for Aid" they'll see the FAFSA you started and can complete their signature Make sure your parent uses their own email and phone (not yours) for their FSA ID. The system needs to verify them as a separate identity.

Thank you so much! My mom thought she could just sign it through my account. She's creating her FSA ID now. I didn't realize we both needed separate accounts for this!

We had the EXACT same issue and spent hours trying to figure it out. the whole process is so dumb. why wouldn't they make it clearer? my dad had to create his own FSA ID and then sign in separately. once he did that it took like 2 minutes to sign but we wasted a whole weekend trying to figure it out!!!

I know right?? They should put this in big bold letters on the website. We've been stressing for days thinking something was broken with our application.

Had this same problem last month. The parent signature is NOT done through your account. Your parent absolutely MUST create their own FSA ID with their own email address (different from yours), and then they log in separately to complete their signature. It's because they need to verify their identity separately. Also, be aware that once they create the FSA ID, they might have to wait 1-3 days for it to be fully verified before they can sign the FAFSA. If your deadline is super close, you might need to call and ask for an extension.

1-3 DAYS?? Our deadline is tomorrow! I'm panicking now. Mom just created her FSA ID but we can't wait days for verification. What should we do?

Don't panic. While FSA ID verification can take 1-3 days in some cases, many parents are able to sign immediately if their information matches Social Security Administration records exactly. If your mom can't sign right away, you should immediately contact your school's financial aid office to explain the situation. Most schools will grant a grace period if you can show you've made a good faith effort to complete the application on time. Also, make sure your mom's email is verified right away - that's often what causes delays. She needs to click the verification link in her email as soon as she creates the FSA ID.

She verified her email right away, but it's still saying her FSA ID is being processed. I'll call the financial aid office first thing in the morning. Thank you for the advice!

I had the same horrible experience trying to get through to them about my verification issue. Wasted hours on hold only to get disconnected. Finally I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is ready. Saved me literally hours of waiting. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. Completely worth it when you're dealing with urgent FAFSA deadlines and can't spend all day on hold.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know what worked for us. Mom's FSA ID verification actually went through within a few hours (not days), and she was able to sign my FAFSA. The key things were: 1. She had to use a completely different email than mine 2. She had to enter her SSN and birth date EXACTLY as they appear on her Social Security card 3. She had to click the email verification link immediately 4. She had to log in with her OWN credentials at studentaid.gov 5. Under "Apply for Aid" she found my FAFSA that was waiting for her signature The application was submitted successfully and we got the confirmation email. Thanks everyone for your help!!!

Great to hear! This is exactly how it's supposed to work. The separate FSA IDs are a security feature, even though they cause confusion. For anyone else reading this thread in the future, this is the correct process.

quick question thats sorta related - does the student have to be there when the parent signs their part? or can my mom do her signature part whenever, even if im not around?

Parents can complete their portion and sign at any time separately from the student. Since each person has their own FSA ID and logs in independently, you don't need to be in the same place or signing at the same time. This is actually helpful for divorced parents or when students are away at college and parents are at home.
