Parent signature missing on FAFSA - can't find where to sign as contributor
I'm so confused and frustrated right now! I spent all weekend helping my daughter fill out her FAFSA for the 2025-2026 year, and we finally got through all the tax info and income questions. She was able to create her FSA ID and sign her portion, but I never got a prompt or section to sign as the parent/contributor. The application is showing as 'incomplete' but doesn't tell me where to go to add my signature! I've logged in with my own FSA ID (created it last year), checked all my email folders including spam, and there's nothing about how to sign. Is there a separate parent section I'm missing? The deadline for her top-choice school's priority deadline is in 3 weeks and I'm panicking!

•Wait, I think I used my own FSA ID though? Unless... maybe I logged in with hers by accident at some point? I'll double-check that. Thank you!

This is a common issue with the FAFSA! You need to make sure you're using YOUR FSA ID (not your daughter's) and then log into studentaid.gov directly. Once you're logged in with your parent FSA ID, you should see an option that says "Sign a FAFSA form" under the Apply for Aid section. You'll need your daughter's name, DOB, and SSN to access her form. If you don't see the option to sign, it's possible you weren't properly added as a contributor during the initial application process. In that case, your daughter would need to log in to her account and add you as a contributor, which should generate an email invitation to you.

•Thank you for the detailed instructions! I just tried logging in with my FSA ID and I don't see the "Sign a FAFSA form" option anywhere. I'm pretty sure we added me as a contributor during the application because it asked for all my tax information. I'll have her log in tonight and check if she can see something on her end.

•I definitely have my own FSA ID that I created last year. That part I'm sure about because I remember the whole verification process. What's confusing me is that I can log in with it, but I don't see where to sign her form specifically.

i had this same issue and it was because the studentaid website was glitching! i kept trying different browsers and finally it worked on firefox when chrome and safari didn't show the parent signature page. might be worth trying a different browser?

There are actually several steps to properly signing as a parent/contributor on the FAFSA. Here's what you need to do in order: 1. Make sure your daughter has fully completed her portion first 2. Log out completely from the site (this is critical) 3. Log in using YOUR parent FSA ID credentials 4. From your dashboard, look for "FAFSA Form" under the Apply for Aid section 5. Select "Sign a FAFSA Form that someone has started" 6. You'll need to input your daughter's details to access her specific form 7. Complete the signature process If you don't see these options after logging in with your parent FSA ID, it's likely one of two issues: either your daughter didn't completely finish her section (sometimes it looks complete but isn't), or there's a technical issue with your parent FSA ID not being properly linked as a contributor. The most reliable solution is to have your daughter log in, go to her FAFSA, and check if there's a specific prompt that says "Parent Signature Required" or something similar. If she sees that, there should be an option to send you an email invitation to sign.

•Thank you for these clear steps! I'll try following them exactly. I'm wondering if we both need to be together to finish this or if I can do my part separately. I'll have her check her account tonight for that "Parent Signature Required" section you mentioned.

I've been through this nightmare THREE times with my kids. The whole FAFSA system is RIDICULOUS and deliberately confusing. What probably happened is that your parent FSA ID isn't properly linked to your daughter's application. And good luck getting any help from the Student Aid people - I was on hold for HOURS last year trying to fix a similar issue with my son's application. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!

•I'm starting to feel the same way! We've spent so many hours on this already and it feels like we're running in circles. The priority deadline is getting closer and I'm worried we'll miss out on aid if we can't figure this out soon.

I had almost the exact same problem last month with my son's FAFSA. After trying everything else, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a live FSA agent. They have this service where they hold your place in the phone queue and call you when an agent is about to answer. Saved me literally hours of wait time. The agent walked me through exactly where to find the parent signature section and fixed something on their end that was preventing me from seeing it. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ that shows how it works. Definitely worth it for my sanity!

•I've never heard of this service before, but at this point I'm willing to try anything! I spent 45 minutes on hold yesterday before I had to hang up for a work meeting. I'll check out that link - thank you!

•is that service legit?? seems sketchy to use a third party for fafsa stuff

•It's just a call connection service - they don't actually access your FAFSA or ask for any personal information. They just hold your place in line and connect you when an agent is about to pick up. I was skeptical too but it worked perfectly.

One thing I noticed from your original post - you mentioned that the FAFSA is showing as 'incomplete'. Where exactly are you seeing this status? If it's on your daughter's account, that's actually helpful because it confirms the system knows a parent signature is missing. On your daughter's end, there should be a section that specifically says something like "Parent Signature Required" or "Action Required: Parent Signature". When she clicks that, she should have the option to send you an email invitation to sign. Check all email addresses associated with your FSA ID for this invitation. Alternatively, try this specific path when logged in with your parent FSA ID: 1. Go to studentaid.gov and log in with YOUR FSA ID 2. Select "Apply for Aid" from the top menu 3. Select "Complete the FAFSA Form" 4. Look for "Sign a FAFSA Form" 5. Enter your daughter's information If none of this works, it might be a technical glitch that needs to be resolved by calling Federal Student Aid directly.

•The "incomplete" status is showing on her account when she logs in. We'll try your steps tonight when she gets home from work. I really appreciate everyone's help with this!

•Good news! We figured it out last night. The issue was that my daughter needed to specifically click on "Parent Information" in her FAFSA review section, which then gave her the option to send me an email invitation to sign. The email went to my spam folder initially, but once I found it, I was able to click the link and sign with my FSA ID. The whole application is now showing as submitted! Tell your brother to make sure he completes that specific step to invite the parent to sign.
