Won OAH appeal but ESD portal still shows disqualified status - when will it update?

Finally won my appeal hearing with the Office of Administrative Hearings last Thursday (7/18)! There's a letter in my OAH portal clearly stating my case is closed, the ruling is in my favor, and the original decision is reversed. It specifically says I'm NOT disqualified.\n\nHere's the problem though - when I check my ESD portal, all my payments still show as

Congrats on winning your appeal! It took about 9 business days for my ESD portal to update after my OAH appeal was successful back in February. The ESD system is incredibly slow to process these updates. First the decision has to get from OAH to ESD, then it has to get assigned to a claims specialist, then they have to manually process the reversal and update your payments.\n\nYes, your disqualified weeks should change to paid status, and they should backpay you for all those weeks. Keep an eye on your bank account - sometimes the money will show up as pending before the ESD portal even updates.

Thank you! That's really helpful to know. 9 business days isn't terrible I guess. Did you have to do anything to make it happen or did it just update automatically?

ESD can take 2-3 weeks to process OAH decisions honestly. The two systems (OAH and ESD) don't communicate automatically - someone at ESD has to manually implement the judge's decision. If it goes beyond 3 weeks, you should definitely call them to check on status.\n\nOne thing though - make sure the appeal was for ALL the weeks that were disqualified. Sometimes people win an appeal but it only applies to certain weeks if that's all that was included in the appeal.

Oh that's good to know about the specific weeks! The decision letter mentions covering weeks from 5/12/2025 through 7/05/2025, which should be all the disqualified ones. I'll wait 3 weeks and then call if I don't see any changes. Thanks for the guidance!

If you need to reach ESD to check on the status, good luck getting through their phone system. I was in a similar situation and spent days trying to reach a human. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nIt saved me so much frustration when I needed to get my appeal processed faster. The agent I spoke with was able to flag my account for expedited processing since I was facing eviction.

Is that service legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party stuff when it comes to unemployment claims.

Totally understand the skepticism. I was hesitant too but desperate after trying for days to get through. It worked exactly as advertised - they basically keep dialing for you and then call you when they get through. I know several people in my industry who've used it when dealing with ESD issues.

I work in HR and deal with this stuff regularly. Here's what's happening behind the scenes:\n\n1. OAH sends their decision to ESD (usually takes 1-3 business days)\n2. ESD has to assign the case to a claims specialist (3-5 days)\n3. Claims specialist reviews the decision and updates your claim (1-5 days)\n4. Payment processing occurs (1-3 days)\n\nSo best case about 6 business days, worst case about 16 business days. It rarely takes longer than that unless there's some unusual complication with your claim.\n\nThe \

Thank you so much for that detailed breakdown! That helps me understand where things are in the process. Relieved to hear that the 7/19 update is actually a positive sign.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US GIVE UP!!!!! Won my appeal in January and it took 32 DAYS for ESD to update my claim!!!! When I called they just said \

32 days is definitely not normal. Most updates happen within 2-3 weeks. Sounds like something unusual happened with your claim.

when i won my appeal last yr it took about 10 days before anything changed in the portal but then suddenly all the money appeared in my account! hang tight, it'll come through. they do backpay for all the weeks covered by the appeal decision.

One more thing - since you mentioned the appeal decision specifically states you're \

Yes! I've continued filing every week like clockwork even though they kept showing as disqualified. My work search logs are all up to date too. Fingers crossed it all comes through soon.

Not yet! It's been 5 business days so far. Based on what everyone's saying, I'm trying to be patient for at least another week before I panic. I'll update when something changes!

Quick update for those following this thread - the most recent data I've seen shows ESD taking an average of 12 business days to process appeal reversals in 2025, which is actually faster than their 2024 average of 17 days. So the system is improving, even if it still feels frustratingly slow when you're waiting for your money.

UPDATE: My ESD portal just updated today! Exactly 11 business days after the OAH decision. All my previously disqualified weeks now show as paid, and there's a payment pending to my bank account for the full backpay amount. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your help and support through this stressful time.
