Where to physically apply for ESD unemployment in WA? Online system confusing me!

Im trying to file for unemployment but the online stuff is really confusing me. Where do you guys actually go to apply in person? Is there an ESD office in Tacoma where I can talk to someone face to face? My computer keeps freezing up on the application page and I'm not good with technology anyway. Rather just fill out paper forms if possible. Never done this before and need help ASAP as I got laid off last week from construction job.

There aren't really in-person application offices for unemployment anymore. Everything is done online through the SecureAccess Washington (SAW) portal at esd.wa.gov or by phone. If you're having computer issues, you can call the claims center at 800-318-6022, but be prepared for long wait times. They're open weekdays 8am-4pm.

I had the same issue! The website kept timing out when I tried to apply. You actually CAN go to a WorkSource center for help with applications - they have computers and staff that can assist. There's one in Tacoma on South M Street. Call ahead to check their hours and if you need an appointment.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I needed to know. Will try calling them tomorrow.

Just to add some clarity - WorkSource offices can help you with the online application process, but they don't actually process claims themselves. They provide computer access and staff who can guide you through the online system. Make sure to bring your ID, Social Security card, and employment history information (past 18 months of employers with addresses and phone numbers).

The last time I went to WorkSource, they were super helpful but I still waited like 2 hours before someone could help me. Might want to bring something to do while waiting!

lol welcome to the wonderful world of ESD where nothing makes sense and the rules change every week! I tried finding an in-person office too when I first applied last year. Ended up spending 3 weeks calling over and over just to talk to someone about my claim.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to ESD on the phone? After I tried calling for days with no luck, I used their service and got through to an agent in about 40 minutes. It basically holds your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me a lot of stress when my claim had issues.

I used this too and it actually worked! Thought it was a scam at first but was desperate after being hung up on by the automated system for like two weeks straight.

As others have mentioned, WorkSource is your best bet for in-person help. I know the Tacoma location has specific hours for unemployment assistance. Also, if you're really struggling with the online application, you might qualify for assistance through their Priority service if you have limited English proficiency, disability, or technology barriers. Call the office directly to ask about this option.

What counts as technology barriers? Cause I definitely have those lol. My internet keeps cutting out and my computer is like 10 years old.

Technology barriers can include lack of reliable internet access, not having a computer/smartphone, or inability to use the online system due to skills/knowledge. Definitely mention this when you contact WorkSource - they may be able to provide additional support or priority assistance.
