Rescheduled WorkSource appointment put my claim in adjudication - will ESD deny my benefits?
I'm freaking out a little bit. I caught the flu last month and had to reschedule my mandatory WorkSource appointment (originally scheduled for March 12th). I called them and rescheduled for March 19th, which was still before my 30-day deadline. I attended the rescheduled workshop, got my completion certificate, and uploaded it to my ESD account right away. But now my weekly payment status says 'pending' with 'adjudication in progress' next to it! I've been consistently filing and receiving benefits for about 7 weeks without issues until now. Will ESD deny my benefits because I rescheduled the appointment? Has anyone dealt with this before? I really can't afford to miss this payment - I've got $1,850 in rent due next week.

ESD is SO FRUSTRATING with this stuff! The EXACT same thing happened to me in January. I rescheduled ONE WorkSource appointment because my car broke down, and they put me in adjudication for THREE WEEKS!! Even though I did everything right and followed their stupid rules! They're just looking for any excuse to deny benefits. I'd call them ASAP but good luck getting through - their phone system is designed to make you give up.

•Three weeks?! I can't wait that long! Did they end up approving your benefits eventually or did you lose them?

This is fairly common and usually not a reason to panic. When you reschedule a mandatory service, it automatically triggers a review of your claim - even if you did everything correctly within the timeframe. Most likely, an adjudicator just needs to verify that you completed the rescheduled appointment before the deadline. I recommend uploading the completion certificate again to your ESD account under the "Upload Documents" section if you haven't already. Also, make sure to continue filing your weekly claims while this is being resolved.

•Thank you, that's reassuring! I did upload the certificate already, but maybe I'll upload it again with a note explaining the situation. Do you know how long the adjudication typically takes for something like this?

Have you tried calling ESD to explain the situation? That might speed things up rather than waiting for them to review it. I know it's incredibly difficult to get through on their phone lines though - I've been there! I recently discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to ESD much faster. They have this system that holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is about to be available. Saved me hours of frustration when I had an adjudication issue with my standby status. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Might be worth trying since you have rent coming up soon and need this resolved quickly.

The key thing to understand is the difference between "rescheduled" and "missed" appointments in ESD's system. As long as you properly rescheduled through WorkSource before the original appointment (which it sounds like you did) and completed it before your deadline (which you also did), then you should be fine. The adjudication is just a formality where they verify this information. It can take 1-3 weeks depending on their current workload. Make sure you've documented everything: 1. Date you contacted WorkSource to reschedule 2. Name of the person you spoke with (if you have it) 3. Date of completion certificate 4. Screenshots of your ESD account showing the uploads This documentation will help if you need to appeal (though I doubt you will). Your benefits should be backdated once approved.

•Thank you for the detailed response! I did reschedule in advance, so that's good to know. I don't have the name of who I talked to at WorkSource, but I do have my completion certificate with the date. I'll gather everything just in case I need it.

•Yes, these are typically required. You should have received a letter specifying your deadline (usually within 5 weeks of your initial claim). I'd recommend logging into your ESD account immediately to check for any notifications or letters, and contact WorkSource right away to schedule your appointment if you've missed it. The sooner you address this, the better chance you have of maintaining your benefits.

Just to follow up on my earlier comment - even though this is a common scenario, it's still important to be proactive. Continue filing your weekly claims, and consider contacting ESD for status updates. If this drags on longer than 2 weeks, you might want to reach out to your state representative's office as they sometimes can help expedite unemployment issues. And remember that having documentation of your rescheduled appointment and completion is crucial. Most WorkSource appointments that are properly rescheduled and completed shouldn't cause benefit denials.

•I appreciate the follow-up! I'll definitely stay on top of my weekly claims. If I don't see any movement by the end of next week, I'll try contacting my state rep. That's a great suggestion I wouldn't have thought of!

I went through something similar last year! Had to reschedule my WorkSource appointment due to a family emergency and panicked when I saw the adjudication status. But honestly, if you rescheduled properly and completed it within your deadline (which you did), you should be fine. The adjudication is just their way of double-checking that everything was done correctly. In my case, it took about 12 days to resolve and I got all my back payments at once. The most important thing is to keep filing your weekly claims even while it's pending - don't skip any weeks or you could lose those payments entirely. Also, make sure you're continuing to do your job search activities and documenting them properly. Sometimes when they're already reviewing your case, they'll look at everything with a fine-tooth comb. Stay consistent and you should be good!

•This is so helpful to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing! 12 days feels manageable compared to some of the horror stories I've read online. I'm definitely going to keep filing my weekly claims - good point about not skipping any or I could lose those payments. I've been pretty good about documenting my job searches but you're right, I should be extra careful while they're reviewing everything. Thanks for sharing your experience!
