ESD flagged my claim after WorkSource career coach no-show - what now?
I'm seriously frustrated and worried right now. Had a scheduled meeting with my WorkSource career coach last Tuesday that was MANDATORY for my unemployment benefits. I showed up (virtually) right on time, waited for 20 minutes, but my coach never appeared. I sent multiple emails afterward and finally got a response saying 'Sorry, I didn't have it on my calendar.' Now my weekly claim is showing as 'pending - need more information' and there's some kind of flag on my account. I immediately uploaded screenshots of the emails showing I tried to attend and her admission that she messed up, but my payment is still on hold. Has anyone dealt with something similar? How long before ESD reviews my documentation? I'm going on week 2 with no payment, and my rent is due in 8 days. I've tried calling ESD but keep getting the dreaded 'high call volume' message and disconnected. Should I schedule another WorkSource appointment? Contact my coach's supervisor? I'm stressed about potentially losing benefits over someone else's mistake!

•3 weeks?? I can't wait that long! Did you do anything specific to speed up the process? I'm considering contacting my state representative at this point.

You need to document everything and contact the WorkSource office manager immediately. Get a written statement from them acknowledging their error. Then call ESD's technical support line (not the regular claims line) and explain the situation. They can sometimes add notes to your file that help the adjudicators. Also make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while this is being resolved.

•Thank you for the advice! I've already sent an email to the WorkSource manager with all my documentation. But I didn't know about calling the technical support line instead - I'll try that tomorrow. And yes, I'm definitely still filing my weekly claims even though they're just piling up as pending.

This happened to me AND MY HUSBAND (different times) during 2022! ESD has this stupid system where if WorkSource reports you as a no-show, it automatically triggers an adjudication even if it was THEIR MISTAKE!!! The worst part is you're just sitting there waiting for weeks while they "investigate" the most basic misunderstanding ever. KEEP CALLING THEM EVERY DAY. Don't let them forget about you.

•Actually calling every day can cause your claim to be flagged for review again or push you further back in the queue. The system logs all contact attempts and too many can trigger additional verification requirements. Better to call once, get a case number for the issue, then follow up every 4-5 days.

I work with WorkSource (not as a career coach). Here's what you should do: 1. Email your career coach AND their supervisor with all documentation 2. Ask them to submit a correction form to ESD immediately (Form WS-23A) 3. Request a new appointment ASAP and attend it 4. If your claim is still pending after the new appointment, contact the WorkSource regional director The good news is that once this is resolved, you'll get all back payments. The bad news is that it usually takes 3-4 weeks for adjudication. Make sure you keep filing weekly claims during this time.

•Thank you so much for the insider information! I didn't know about that specific form. I'll email them both right away and request they submit it. Is there any way to escalate this with ESD directly? 3-4 weeks without payment is really difficult financially.

I had something like this happen and I couldn't get through to ESD for weeks. Finally I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The ESD agent was able to see the notes in my file and push my claim through once I explained what happened with WorkSource. Saved me weeks of waiting.

•Yes, it really worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call for almost two weeks. Once I got through to an actual person, they were able to review my documents and remove the hold.

This is a common issue unfortunately. The WorkSource appointments are considered a condition of receiving benefits, and the system automatically flags your account if there's any reported non-compliance. Your career coach needs to file a correction with ESD to clear this up. In my experience helping clients with similar issues, here are the steps to resolve this: 1. Get written confirmation from your career coach acknowledging their error 2. Have them submit Form WS-23A (WorkSource Participation Correction) 3. Upload all evidence to your eServices account under "Provide Information" 4. Contact ESD directly - keep trying until you get through 5. Request expedited processing due to financial hardship Typically these issues are resolved in 2-3 weeks, but can be expedited if you emphasize the financial hardship.

•Thanks for the detailed advice. I've already done steps 1 and 3, and I'm working on getting the coach to submit that form. It's the "contact ESD directly" part that's been impossible so far! I've tried calling at different times of day with no luck. Do you know if there's a particular time when it's easier to get through?

•In my experience, Tuesday-Thursday mornings right when they open (around 8:00-8:15am) tend to have slightly lower call volumes. Also, try the employer line and then ask to be transferred to claims - sometimes that route has shorter wait times.

the whole system is BROKEN!!! my career coach rescheduled on me 3x then when i couldnt make the 4th time because she only gave me 2 hours notice they cut my benefits for EIGHT WEEKS!!!! its completley rigged against us regular people. the job search requirement is just a way for them to deny benifits

•That's not actually how the system is designed to work. If you were disqualified for 8 weeks, there was likely more to the situation. You can appeal decisions like that with the Office of Administrative Hearings.

•i DID appeal and still waiting after 6 WEEKS!!! they just want us to give up and go away

Just to clarify some misinformation in this thread - the WorkSource career coach should file what's called a "non-penalty reschedule" in the RESEA system. This will remove the appointment failure flag from your account. It's actually form WS-23R, not WS-23A as someone mentioned above. The timeline for resolution depends on whether your claim goes into full adjudication or if they simply clear the flag. Full adjudication can take 3-6 weeks in 2025 with current backlogs, but a simple flag removal can be done in 3-5 business days if you get through to the right person. Make sure you continue certifying weekly while this is being resolved.

•Thank you for the correction! I'll make sure to specifically request the WS-23R form. Is there a specific department I should ask for when I finally get through to ESD? I want to make sure I'm transferred to someone who can actually help with this particular issue.

•Ask to speak with an adjudicator specifically about a WorkSource participation issue. Regular claims agents often can't clear these flags without approval from an adjudicator. If they try to just take a message, politely insist that you need to speak with someone who can address RESEA/WorkSource flags specifically.

UPDATE: Finally got this resolved! For anyone who might face this issue in the future, here's what worked: 1. I got my career coach to admit in writing it was her error 2. I had her supervisor submit the WS-23R form (thanks for the correction on that!) 3. I used Claimyr to actually get through to ESD (after trying for days on my own) 4. Spoke with an adjudicator who reviewed my documentation 5. They cleared the flag within 48 hours All my pending payments were released today - 16 days after the original issue. Not ideal, but at least it's fixed. The most frustrating part was just getting someone at ESD to actually look at my case. Once that happened, they agreed immediately that I wasn't at fault.
