Missing WorkSource appointment letter but getting texts to schedule by July deadline - will I lose benefits?
I'm completely stressed out about this WorkSource appointment situation. For the past week, I've been receiving text messages saying I need to schedule a mandatory WorkSource appointment by July 1st (which is only 9 days away!). The texts say to check my ESD account portal for the letter with instructions. Here's the problem - I logged into my ESD account and there's NO LETTER anywhere about scheduling a WorkSource appointment. Nothing in my correspondence section. Nothing in my tasks. I tried clicking the WorkSource appointment scheduling link from my ESD dashboard, but the system says my email isn't recognized as needing an appointment. So frustrating! I called the number from the text and it just went to some WorkSource voicemail that asked for my name and the ID number from the letter - WHICH I DON'T HAVE because there's no letter! I left a message explaining my situation anyway and my phone number, but haven't heard back yet. I'm really worried that if I can't schedule this appointment I'll lose my unemployment benefits completely. I can't afford that right now with rent due next week. Has anyone else had this weird disconnect between getting texts but no actual letter? How did you resolve it? Did your benefits get cut off?

This happened to me last month! Don't panic yet. There's a glitch in their system that sometimes sends the texts before the letter actually gets uploaded to your account. Mine showed up 4 days after I started getting the texts. Two things you should do right away: 1. Take screenshots of your ESD portal showing no letter exists 2. Email the WorkSource office directly at WorkSourceAppointments@esd.wa.gov with your claim ID and explanation They're required to give you reasonable notice to schedule these appointments, and they can't disqualify you if their system failed to provide the proper notification. Keep checking your portal daily though - the letter might appear suddenly.

•Thank you so much for this info! I just took screenshots of my empty correspondence section as you suggested. I'll definitely email that address right away. Did they respond quickly to your email? I'm so nervous about this July 1st deadline.

•They absolutely CAN and WILL cut you off even if they didn't send the letter! This happened to my brother last year and he had to fight for 6 weeks to get his benefits reinstated. The ESD system is designed to trip people up with these tricks. They send texts knowing the letters aren't ready so people miss deadlines and they can deny benefits. Always document EVERYTHING and appeal immediately if they cut you off!

I work as an employment counselor and can clarify what's happening here. This is a known issue with ESD's notification system. The automated text alerts are triggered before the official correspondence is generated in many cases. You should: 1. Continue checking your ESD portal daily - the letter typically appears 3-7 days after the initial text 2. Document all communication attempts (screenshots, call logs, etc.) 3. Visit your local WorkSource office in person if possible - they can often schedule you directly even without the letter 4. Request an official trace on the notification through the ESD technical support line Regarding your benefits: As long as you can demonstrate that you made reasonable efforts to comply once you received proper notification, your benefits should not be affected. The key is documenting your proactive attempts to resolve the issue. The WorkSource appointment is part of the mandatory Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program, and while participation is required, they must provide proper notification with sufficient time to comply.

•Thank you for this information! I've been trying to call the ESD technical support line for 3 days and it's constantly busy or disconnects me. Is there any trick to actually getting through to someone? I tried calling at 7:58am right before they open and still couldn't get through. It's so frustrating when they require these appointments but make it impossible to actually communicate with them!

I had a similar issue happen a few months ago, different circumstance but same problem with trying to reach ESD. After wasting days trying to get through on their phone lines, I discovered a service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 15 minutes. Saved me so much stress! They basically call ESD for you and when they get through, they connect you directly with an agent. I used it twice now. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 or their website claimyr.com The ESD agent I spoke with was able to manually verify my WorkSource appointment requirement and note on my account that I had attempted to comply. Definitely worth it for something this important where your benefits are at stake.

•Is that service legit? I'm always suspicious of third-party services for government stuff. Has anyone else used this? Seems weird to need to use another service just to talk to ESD when it's literally their job to be available.

I used to work for WorkSource (quit last year thank god) and this happens ALL THE TIME! The systems don't talk to each other properly. The text notification system runs separately from the correspondence system that generates the letters. Here's the inside scoop: The TEXT comes from the WorkSource appointment system The LETTER comes from the ESD correspondence system They're SUPPOSED to sync up but rarely do. Texting is usually 3-5 days ahead of the letter. Honestly? Just walk into your local WorkSource office in person and tell them you're getting texts but no letter. They can look you up in their system and schedule you right there. Bring your ESD customer ID number if you have it. WAY easier than the phone/email nightmare.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! There's a WorkSource office about 20 minutes from me, so I'll try going there tomorrow morning. Should I bring anything specific with me as proof of my claim or identity?

bring ur photo ID and ur ESD customer ID number (not ur SSN). and if u hav screenshots of the texts thats good too. they should be able to see in their system that ur flagged for an appointment even if the letter isnt in ur ESD account yet

UPDATE: The letter finally appeared in my ESD account this morning! It has a reference number and says I need to schedule before July 1st. I was able to click the link and schedule for next Monday. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I took screenshots of everything just in case there are any issues later. What a stressful experience though - they really need to fix their system so the letters come BEFORE or at least WITH the text messages!

•Great news! Make sure you attend that appointment and get documentation afterward. These WorkSource appointments are really important for maintaining eligibility. They'll review your job search activities and might have you complete a resume review or skills assessment. If they assign any follow-up activities, complete them right away and document everything in your ESD account. Glad it worked out!

This hole system is garbage!! I had 2 do THREE of these stupid appointments last year. Complete waste of time. They just tell u the same basic stuff about resumes every time. But u gotta do it or they cut ur benefits. smh
