OAH appeal decision - where exactly does it appear on the portal?

I just finished my appeal hearing with OAH yesterday (this was for a disqualification due to alleged voluntary quit). The judge seemed pretty fair and said the decision would be sent within a few business days. Problem is, I've never gone through this process before and I'm not sure exactly WHERE on the OAH portal the decision will show up. Will I get an email notification? Does it appear under a specific tab? I'm checking obsessively every few hours because I really need this resolved - my rent is due next week and I'm down to my last $217. Has anyone gone through an appeal recently who can tell me exactly where to look for the decision?

The decision will show up under the 'Documents' tab in your OAH portal. They typically upload it as a PDF file labeled something like 'Final Order' or 'Decision and Order.' You should also receive an email notification when it's posted, but sometimes those emails go to spam so checking the portal directly is smarter. In my experience, even though they say a few days, my decision took about 5 business days to appear. The decisions are usually pretty detailed and will clearly state whether they reversed or upheld ESD's determination.

Thank you!! I've been looking at the 'Case Details' tab thinking it would update there. I'll keep an eye on the Documents tab instead. Five days sounds like forever when you're stressed about money, but at least now I know where to look.

Really? Ugh, mail delivery in my neighborhood is super unreliable. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll check my mailbox daily too.

The OAH decision will appear in three places: 1. In the OAH portal under the Documents tab (usually first) 2. Mailed to your address on file (usually takes 3-7 days) 3. Eventually in your ESD eServices account under "Decisions/Determinations" The most important thing to understand is that even if you win your appeal, ESD still needs to process the judge's decision before payments resume. This can take another 1-2 weeks after the decision is issued. If you're in a financial emergency, don't wait - call ESD to check on status once you receive the decision. For the actual decision document, look for a PDF with a title like "Initial Order" or "Decision and Order." It will clearly state at the beginning whether the judge reversed (you won) or affirmed (you lost) ESD's determination.

This is why the system is so broken... even if you WIN, you still have to wait weeks for money you're legally entitled to! My neighbor won his appeal and it still took 18 days for ESD to process it and start paying him. EIGHTEEN DAYS! People have bills to pay!

I went through an appeal last month for a similar issue. After my hearing, I couldn't get through to anyone at ESD to find out about the status. I was checking the portal constantly but it took forever to update. Finally I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an ESD agent who confirmed my decision had actually been processed and was just waiting for the weekly claim to generate payment. Saved me a week of anxiety! They have a video demo if you're curious: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 But yeah, the decision itself first showed up in my OAH portal under Documents, with a pretty generic file name like "Order" followed by some numbers.

I've heard about that service - did it actually work? Every time I call ESD I just get the "high call volume" message and get disconnected.

Yeah it worked for me. Got through in about 30 mins instead of spending days redialing. The agent I spoke with was actually super helpful and explained exactly what was happening with my claim.

The judges decision is one thing but what they dont tell you is that even after a favorable decision you might still have problems!!! I won my appeal in March but then ESD took 3 more weeks to actually start paying me again!!! When I called they said "oh we have to review the judges order" which is RIDICULOUS because what is there to review?? The judge already decided!! Just a warning that winning your appeal is only the first step in actually getting your $$$

That's incredibly frustrating. I'm already struggling with bills, so hearing I might win but still not get paid for weeks is terrifying. Did calling help speed things up at all?

Calling definitely helped but only after I got through to a claims specialist NOT just the frontline people. You have to specifically ask for a claims specialist who can actually see the appeal notes and process things. The regular agents just read scripts and tell you to wait.

One important thing to mention - if your decision is favorable (meaning you win), don't forget you still need to file your weekly claims for all weeks since your disqualification if you haven't been doing so. Some people think they can wait until the appeal is decided, but ESD won't automatically pay you for weeks you didn't file a claim, even after a successful appeal. Just a heads-up in case that applies to your situation.

I've actually been filing every week even though they show as "disqualified" in the system. The ESD website said to keep filing during the appeal process, so I've been doing that. Hopefully that means if I win, they'll process those weeks faster?

Yes! You did exactly the right thing. Those weeks should convert from disqualified to paid once the appeal decision is processed. You're ahead of the game compared to many people.

I HATE how they leave you hanging like this!!! My appeal took 9 DAYS to show up despite the judge saying "a few days" and by then I'd already had to borrow money from family just to keep my lights on. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!!!

Totally agree. The stress of not knowing is almost worse than a bad decision. At least then you can plan your next steps.

UPDATE: My decision just came through! It was under the Documents tab like you all said. The judge reversed ESD's determination! Now I'm wondering how long until I actually see the money...should I call ESD to make sure they process it quickly?

Congratulations! Yes, definitely call ESD to confirm they've received the decision and ask when you can expect payment. Calling can often speed up the process because it puts your claim on someone's radar. Make sure to mention you have an urgent financial hardship if that's the case - they sometimes can expedite processing.

CONGRATS!! definitely call them ASAP! Be prepared to call multiple times to get through. In my experience the squeaky wheel gets the grease with ESD!

That's amazing news! I'm so happy for you! I've been following your posts and was really hoping it would work out. Definitely call ESD today if you can - from what I've read here it sounds like being proactive really helps speed things up. Hope you get your payments soon and can stop stressing about rent!
