Multiple weekly claims showing 'Disqualified' with no notice - Adjudication in progress?
I'm totally confused with what's happening to my unemployment benefits. Got laid off from my winter resort job about three weeks ago and filed my weekly claims like normal. Just checked my account and all my claims are showing up as 'Disqualified' but I never got ANY notification explaining why! When I go to Decision Status there's literally nothing there - no way to appeal, no explanation, nothing in the box. Then I noticed under 'Pending Issues' it says 'Adjudication in progress' which I also never got notified about. Does anyone know what this means or what I'm supposed to do now? I've tried sending messages through eServices but radio silence. Calling is useless - just get the 'high call volume' recording and it hangs up on me. Starting to panic because rent is due next week and I was counting on this money. Any advice appreciated!

This happened to me last winter. The 'disqualified' status often appears when there's something they need to verify about your separation from work. The adjudication process means they're investigating something, probably related to why you were separated from your seasonal position. Did your employer contest your unemployment or classify your separation as something other than a layoff?

•Thanks for responding! I honestly have no idea if my employer contested it. The job ended exactly when they said it would (seasonal winter position that ended in April). My boss even told me to file for unemployment until summer work picks up. Why wouldn't ESD at least send me something explaining what they're investigating??

When you have an adjudication in progress, your weekly claims are automatically disqualified until they complete their investigation and make a decision. Once they resolve the adjudication issue (which could be something simple like verifying your reason for separation), they'll either approve your claims retroactively or send you a formal disqualification notice with appeal rights. You should have received an adjudication letter in your eServices notices or by mail explaining what they're investigating. Check your spam folder and all notices in your account. The letter should mention a specific issue and a timeframe when an adjudicator might contact you.

•I've checked everywhere - spam folder, regular mail, eServices notices. Nothing! This is what's so frustrating. How am I supposed to respond to something if I don't even know what the issue is?

ESD is THE WORST at comuunicating!!! I waited 6 weeks last year with no explination why my claim was pending. turns out they needed ONE document they never asked for. system is broken.

Last year I had a seasonal job that I got laid off from and filed for UI. My claims were disqualified at first because they needed to verify the reason for separation. For seasonal work, sometimes they need to confirm you didn't quit and that you're truly laid off due to lack of work rather than fired for cause. The annoying part is they often don't tell you exactly what they need. I spent THREE WEEKS trying to call ESD with no luck - always got the high call volume message. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a real person in about 25 minutes. They have this system that keeps calling ESD until they get through, then they call you and connect you. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through, the agent explained exactly what was needed and I was able to get it resolved. My disqualified weeks were changed to paid once the adjudication completed. Definitely worth getting through to a real person to find out what's actually happening.

•That sounds really helpful - I might try that. Did you have to provide any additional documentation about your separation?

•In my case they just needed me to do a phone interview to confirm details about my seasonal work ending. Once I did that (after getting through on the phone), my claim was approved within a few days and all my weeks were paid retroactively. It's definitely worth finding out what they need.

•9 weeks?! I can't wait that long! Did he ever find out what the problem was?

Your situation sounds like a standard fact-finding investigation for a seasonal job separation. Here's what's probably happening: 1. When you filed, the system flagged your claim because seasonal work often has special circumstances (was it truly "lack of work" or did you quit/get fired). 2. The "Adjudication in progress" means they're investigating your eligibility based on separation reason, but they're backlogged (currently 4-6 weeks for many adjudications). 3. Your weekly claims show as "Disqualified" as a temporary status until adjudication completes. If approved, they'll switch to "Paid" and you'll receive all back payments. You should be receiving an ESD fact-finding questionnaire through eServices or mail. Check ALL notices carefully. They might have sent something requiring your response that you missed. The system sometimes marks claims as requiring adjudication when an employer provides information that doesn't match what you reported. Keep filing your weekly claims despite the disqualification status! If approved later, you'll only get paid for weeks you properly filed.

•Thank you for this detailed response! I'll double check all my notices again. I've definitely been continuing to file my weekly claims even though they show as disqualified. I'm going to try calling again tomorrow morning right when they open.

When I got laid off from my seasonal job at Mt. Baker last year I had a similar thing happen but then it turned out my employer had reported that I quit instead of being laid off which was completely false! I had to go through this whole appeal process and OH MY GOD it was a nightmare but I eventually won. Check if your employer reported something wrong maybe???

Important reminder: Even with claims showing as disqualified, continue filing your weekly claims on time! If you get approved after adjudication, you'll only receive payment for weeks that were properly filed. Many people make the mistake of stopping their weekly claims during adjudication and then have to file for backdating, which creates even more delays.

•Yes, I've definitely been filing each week! At least I'm doing something right 😅

Any update on your situation? Were you able to reach someone at ESD?

•Finally got some answers! I tried using that Claimyr service mentioned above and actually got through to a real person at ESD. Turns out my employer incorrectly reported that I quit rather than being laid off due to end of season. The agent helped me submit the correct information, and they said once the adjudicator reviews it (still a 2-3 week wait), my disqualified weeks should be changed to paid if everything checks out. So frustrating, but at least now I know what's happening. Going to contact my former employer too and ask them to correct the information they submitted.
